I love raising livestock. It's a passion for me. I love seeing life come into the world and nurturing it to the best of my ability. It brings me satisfaction and purpose in my life. But, there are also days where all I can think to do is just QUIT! Within the course of 2-3 Days I had a goat go down with sudden acidosis, 2 goats kid, a weak baby goat, baby chicks hatch, and 1 chick with a severe case of splay leg.

Excellent video Ashley - you really tug on the emotional side of homesteading in this video. We lost a doe a few weeks ago which was incredibly hard, but have had 10 babies born in the last couple of weeks. We celebrate the victories, mourn the loses, and pray for wisdom along the way. - Rick

Gosh he was such a beautiful goat. I'm so sorry that he passed. I can't imagine that its ever easy losing an animal nor should it be. Its great though that he lived out his life there happy with others and that his blood lines are still with ya'll.

@@MulberryBranchFarm I am so with you there about having to make the call. My dog has kidney failure that we've been battling for a while and I will be super lucky to have her for another year. I know there is a point in time where I may have to make the call and I so dread it. Its like such a heart breaking and weird thing scheduling something like that. Also not knowing if thats what she would actually want me to do but at the same time I don't want her to suffer.

I’m sorry very sorry about Poseidon, he had an amazing life with a family that loves him and that’s the most important thing. But you’re absolutely right that farming homesteading is not for the faint of heart, it’s hard emotionally, physically and yet so rewarding 😉

I grew up in the countryside in the 80's. The old farmers used to say, "where there's life, there's death." As hard as that may sound, it's a fact. Losing an animal should never be easy but you also can't allow the hurt and pain take you down. It's called compassion fatigue, it's real, it's the cause of a lot of animal reacues failing. Please remember to take time for yourself and your human family. In order to live a healthy life there has to be balance. If you're giving all of yourself to the animals all of the time, you will suffer and in turn your animals will suffer. This is not meant as criticism. This is my best (awkward) attempt to offer you some advice. I like you and i like your channel. Take care of yourself. 😊

Either or. I shadowed our vet for 3 Years in High School so we have a really good working relationship. He comes here if I need him to or I can take them to him. He's great with goats too which is a rarity.

If you didn't get emotional Ashley I would be very worried about you and would tell you it's time to get out of farming with animals! I'm sorry you lost your old man goat but you gave him a good goat life and he went peacefully on his terms.
