On Thursday, February 23, 2017, the world lost one of the most prolific musical giants of our time, Mr. Leon Ware. He had just celebrated his 77th birthday on February 16th. Leon wrote and produced many hits during his lifetime, most notably, the entire “I Want You” album for Marvin Gaye. For me, his loss is personal. Our relationship began over 30 years ago and transitioned from friends and co-workers to brothers. I was his Musical Director, confidante, technology consultant…among other things. He was the coolest guy you ever wanted to meet. He never raised his voice. He loved to laugh & smile, and he always listened. He inspired so many of us younger musicians, who were blessed to be in his sphere. Leon, his lovely wife Carol and his son Mark, have been my family for many years now, and losing Leon hurts a lot, to say the least. I am glad that his suffering has ended & the pain has finally stopped. Having Leon as my brother has blessed my life immensely and I miss him already. We loved each other and never missed an opportunity to say so. I encourage all of you to verbalize and show love, where it exists in your life.
Love is a precious gift! Leon, lived and wrote about love. We often laughed about the many babies that were conceived to his music. Don’t hold on to anger, choose love, even when it’s hard.
Leon, I miss you, my big brother. You fought a brilliant fight!! Rest well!!
This rendition of “I Want You” was filmed at my show on March 21, 2014 at Cafe Cordiale in Sherman Oaks, Ca.
This is just a glimpse into the fun we shared on so many occasions. Enjoy!!
