I am watching this 2 yrs later because for some reason a lot of your previous videos keep popping up. Anyway, viewing this 2 yrs later, there are a couple of things I'd like to comment on. One is I really enjoyed the purchases from a more high-end auction, and the fact that you now do your hauls using a stand alone camera rather than "futzing" around with one hand. That stain glass window is beautiful!
@bhenry44053 жыл бұрын
The window is great! The edges of single pane (1 layer) glass were traditional held in wood frames by a mechanical method. First, Glazing Points (metal pins, triangles or diamonds) were pressed/pushed into the wood, on all sides and then Glazing Putty was installed in a fillet bead, all around the glass on the outside. Glazing is the term for Glass, a Glazier is the person who works glass and back before the push for more efficient and lower maintenance windows began, getting made on production lines by companies like Anderson and Milgard, every town had a guy who took care of it, or the job was done by a homeowner or handyman, when a kid took out a pane with an errant baseball, the putty aged and fell our, a house was to get painted, etc. Today a glass tradesman is still called a Glazier, but they don't cut much glass anymore. They order out and install factory made inserts, that get put into frames and most frames are no longer wood. Back in the day, glass was sold at the local hardware in small towns and was cut to size, the way glass is cut to frame art and photos at a gallery shop. I cut a lot of glass as a teenager in the 1970s, since most of the houses in my town dated back to the turn of the century. The guy who taught me, used to say you have to cut glass like your daddy owns the glass store. A lot of the "regular" window glass back then still had imperfections in the glass like bubbles or wavy areas. You could always tell windows needed worked because a good wind rattled the panes in the frames. So the glazing putty's purpose was two fold and why it went on the exterior. The interior of a wood frame had a recess to push the glass against. The putty and a layer of paint, acted as a seal and kept out the wind and rain. It also provided a nice clean line for the house painter. The putty came in cans (pints, quarts and gallons) back then and was usually white. We used it by the gallon. Today it likely comes in Designer Colors on-line, but the idea was simple and the method of installation hasn't changed much. You pulled out a hunk of sticky putty, rolled it back and forth in your palms until it warmed up, became pliable and lengthened like a big noodle. Then you started in a corner and pushed it in, all along the line where the wood frame met the glass. Then you used a Putty Knife (which is where the tools name comes from), angled against the frame to draw a nice line along that side leaving a triangular cross section of putty. One side on the frame, the other on the glass. Repeat it for every edge and it would stay in for years, depending on your climate, eventually drying out and falling out, which is what is happening to the window you have. As for re-working it, I wouldn't suggest it, as long as the glazing points and remaining putty are holding the glass in place and there is no risk of it falling out of the frame while handling. Because it will loose the patina, when you put in new, bright white putty on that old frame. And since it's unlikely to be used anywhere put inside as art, or hung on the interior of another window, you don't have to keep out wind or rain. Great video, always enjoy your channel.

Question for eBay sellers who've been on Managed Payments for awhile, since my accounts only recently switched over: How do you buy a shipping label, right after eBay has made a Payout and zeroed out the account balance? When the account hits zero, the option to buy a label from "Pending Funds" goes away and the only option left is to use PayPal. It's happened twice on my account in the last 2 weeks. Calling eBay didn't help.

@@lavenderclothesline I will see if I can link a Credit Card. Tks
@bhenry44053 жыл бұрын
@@lavenderclothesline It turned out to be a bit more complex then just linking a VISA card, but your suggestion gave me a new place to check. When I checked, one of my two store accounts did have a spot to enter a "Back-up payment", so I tried to add a VISA and it didn't take. The other store didn't even have the spot to make the attempt. So I called back to eBay and spoke to the another person on the Managed Payment team and told them other Seller's have the option to use something other then PayPal to buy Shipping Labels, after the funds transfer empties out the MP account. It turns out my 2 stores aren't even in the same "Phase" of MP, which is why the payment pages look different, but at this time the only thing they could do is change my Primary Payment method for all fees, shipping labels and returns. They gave me the choice of selecting the Bank Account already tied to my eBay account or a ViSA card. Since those bank accounts are each unique to an eBay store and only exist for eBay, I opted to shift my Primary Payment method off Pending Payouts and onto the Bank, since we can control the minimum amount we leave in our bank accounts (the way we did our PayPal accounts). Then, I went back in and changed the weekly payout setting to a daily payout, so the bank accounts will be "refilled" as soon as eBay releases the funds. No sense letting the funds sit for a week in Managed Payments considering that using Pending Funds clearly doesn't always work and they can't set up both a Primary and a Back-up payment method to buy shipping labels. Considering eBay has been Managing Payments for a couple years now, it sure seems they would have come up with a better Mousetrap by now I'm sure this note is a bit confusing, but some of your other viewers shared an interest in the issue, so I wanted to pass along what I learned. It took 3 calls to to eBay to get even this far. Most of the reps i spoke to didn't even grasp the issue itself, let alone have a workable solution.

Do you often use oxi-clean? I've found that it often strips color from some fabrics. I'd caution against using that on the red and white quilts. Sometimes those older reds are not as colorfast and you might end up with a pair of pink and semi-red quilts. I've recently discovered an exceptional laundry detergent that even out-performed my go-to detergent... Era, for stain removal. This new product is called Love Beauty and Planet and I first bought the brand as shampoo at Target. They have a lavender laundry soap that has a lovely scent but worked most excellently remove stains that I'd already washed twice before with other detergents. Best of luck with all that laundry you've got in your future! Favorite buy? The arabesque patterned wood block printing stamp. I also very much admire your lithograph. It made me think of The Handmaid's Tale for a second but it is beautiful art with a pensive mood. The hair-on leather phone (?) holster looks a little like a Brighton piece with its metal embellishment.
