It's essentially always the same in these reddit stories when evil family members suddenly want to reconnect with their victims after years or even decades of no contact: they're either after money/inheritance or they need a compatible organ donor. It's never about genuinely wanting to reconnect and making amends.

Narcissist's are incapable of feeling regret and empathy for the ones they hurt. If they start out evil, they end evil because they clinically are.
@Arkryal
@Arkryal 7 ай бұрын
@@agure4061 Reddit throws around the term "Narcissist" a little too readily, there's no indication at all in the post that they would diagnosed as such. They sound like just common a-holes. The abusers don't see what they're doing as abuse. They find ways to rationalize their actions. The truth is they likely don't even remember half the bad things they did to OP, because in their minds their actions were trivial. Who is going to have a more vivid memory, the parent who "disciplined" their child for the 800th time, or the child who received 800 ass-kickings? OP says she's not in the U.S., but I'd be interested to know where she is. In many places, it's a cultural imperative that the kids support their parents, so they may feel justified in reaching out for money because that would be a deeply engrained cultural expectation. In many of those cases, their brains wouldn't connect the dots between their treatment of OP and her refusal to help them. I say, "Let them die alone in squalor". The time for reconciliation was long before long before they fell on hard times, and now their motivation is in question. They could be genuinely contrite but it doesn't matter now, they missed their chance. They didn't reach out until they were in need, so that will obviously color OP's response.

@@Arkryal Between 0.5% and 5% of people in the U.S. may have clinical narcassism. That means 5/1000 or up to 5/100 people you meet are clinical narcissist's that cannot feel love or empathy. I think its much more common then you think.

@@agure4061numbers worldwide are more around 0.5%-1% so it's not that common either honestly like it's 4 times more common to find someone depressed and around the same % as meeting an autistic person. Now idk if this is a cultural or psychological problem with the parents but it's most likely cultural from the given context maybe India?

@@rolandorban6248 I was refering to the statistical amount of narcissist's in america alone. But in the world that's still literally 5/1000-1/100 and we already know that narcissists raise narcissists because it can be created by childhood trauma. That's 80 million people in the world alone.

Like the two prior answers mentionned, a lot of it has to do with saving face. Not only with the law, but with friends and in-laws. Giving one kid up for adoption because you simply don't care is still comsidered neglectful and being a bad parent.
@tonto9013
@tonto9013 7 ай бұрын
In America it seems simple, but in other countries it is sometimes extremely complicated, at least in some cases. There are places that don't even know that children can be send to adopted, and there are places that are so poor that most of the people can't (In my country, the adoption system almost doesn't work, if it does work it's always overloaded, we don't have enough knowledge about adoption and people have to throw newborn babies in dangerous places to cut them out. It's sad but yes, there are many babies in my country who died in rivers, lakes, plastic bags, buried alive or simply thrown into the forest to die)

That's a public act and OP's family, rightfully, would get humiliated by all of their local society and the news would spread like wildfire via gossip.

I don't blame her one bit. In my opinion, the parents are playing mind games, so they think if they get her back into their cruel cycle of lies deceit etc they could and most likely would do the same thing to her again. She doesn't need them ever, she is too good for them. I admire her for not falling for their bs and standing her ground to not give in to them, manipulators. She finally told them everything and put them in their place via voice-mail rather than face to face where then her parents could've sugar coated everything and made it not seem as bad as it was and they were to their only daughter. Kudos to the brother for finally seeing the parents true colors and wanting to stay in touch with his only little sister. And the boyfriend for being her friend companion and supporter.

I find that the parents wanted money from the daughter to be a bit fishy... then again, I am from the US, so I could be misreading something there. In countries that have more traditional upbringings, it's not uncommon (or so I hear) for this scenario to occur.

They could of got an abortion or given her up for adoption. To carry a baby to full term knowing you don't want it just so you can take you anger out it is ridicules so instead of giving her up to someone who does you treat her like shit like its her fault for being born. I truly wish people would expose others for shit like this these parents are evil asf and deserve for everyone to know who they are and what they did.

Its such a pet peeve of mine when redditors do the whole, "English isn't my first language so bla bla bla," thing just to not make any real English mistakes, like, if youre gonna make a fake story, atleast put in a bit of effort into making it look real. Tldr: English sucks. Culture. Why I still think this story is not real Some people are self conscious about their secondary language skills. I know when I’m tired and don’t feel like editing my crap It looks like it’s impossible to understand what I’m trying to say. I know it’s most likely not correct but it feels like that . Not to mention English is 3 languages wearing a tench coat and it beats up other languages looking in their pockets for loose grammar. Nothing makes sense. At least in my language the rules don’t change for every few words. But op does write like a fanfic writer, so I would give you that. They do write like a 14 year old and most likely is I follow the story spirit they come from Asia, most likely not the middle east as their grammar mistakes are not something I find familiar as someone from this area of the world. Maybe east or South Asia, if it’s not one big lie and they come from the USA and just 14 and edgy. The story itself is pretty believable in my culture at least. You get paid in my country around 15 usd a day for paper delivery, you can start doing that at age 14, 12 with parental consent and if she did that as a side job (like babysitter) she could do it even younger. You just can’t open a bank account younger than 14. Getting a slightly higher paying job at 15 is also believable, at 15 she could have her own bank account and could work for 5 dollars an hour as minimum wage, if she didn’t need to pay for roof or food and worked getting 35 dollars a day, 6 days a week 210 usd, with 7 work days it would be 245 usd a week around 960 a month, which is not a lot, but it’s enough to by used phone and computer and save up in a year a little less then 12 k. Which is more than enough to skip town and rent a small shitty apartment for a few months in a not so great part of town. And no most small time landlords in my area don’t really care who you are as long as you pay on time and don’t create damage. You just answer to an advertisement . If you pre pay for a year they don’t even ask for a co signers, it depends on place but it could be around 300-700 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment she could absolutely put a prepay for a year. And you can and many do finish high school later in life. As it’s adulation. Not age. So everything is possible. The action in the story not so much. How in the actual F the NC parents discover that op is doing well in life to beg for money? Yes op reaction is likely but the thing with the brother is also odd. How did he get her phone number? That what tells me it’s most likely fake. But most likely op doesn’t come from the USA . I don’t think people in the USA are aware of how stuff like that goes in other parts of the world . I do believe they are an edgy teen but the not English native one might be the only real thing they said about themselves.

You realize a person could be in Asia and many other non-US countries, and speak English. For example, any former Commonwealth countries all have English as a major language. Many Europeans speak English and many other Euro languages. In China, all top students going to top universities learn English. Many Japanese people like to study English. Many people in Aftrica also speak English. And many, many other countries... Besides with today's internet you can find a lot of AI help and auto-translators.
