Though I am a doctorate, I feel more pride in calling myself vokkaliga, a profession which toils with soil, a farmer. No profession is superior or inferior. Each is needed for smooth functioning of society. Whatever profession your forefathers followed, be proud of your roots. Whatever profession you have adopted, follow it honestly.

@बलवंत Read Gita chapter 4. Clearly states society consists of four Varnas based on Guna - Karma i.e. character & profession. Each profession has important place in society and were interchangeable. But once you have adopted a varna, you were supposed to be follow that profession diligently Krishna a cowherd became a king (kshatriya). Vishwamitra a kshatriya became Brahmin. A Brahmin Ajamila brahmin became an outcaste because of bad company. .. ample examples… unfortunately became birth based classification as few powerful men of the society wanted to retain power within their families. Powerful men exploiting weaker sections of society is the unfortunate evil side of human nature. Such divisions are prevalent in each and every society. When this birth based castigation became prevalent it is mostly the Brahmins and other so called upper caste people themselves who fought against the system. If you read our Harikathas and past records you will understand it is these people who recorded and propagated the stories of dasas who were blessed by Hari or Shiv. Read the story of Gora Kumbar, Chokoba, Kanhopatra, Tukarama, Kanakadas etc. So ours is a constantly accepting and evolving culture..
