@@Kundalini_Goddess A little story about my group friend in uni Both me and another guy are really afraid of bees. We don't have allergies or anything, we're just afraid of them. Another one of our friends... Wasn't. At all. Actually he was more like you We usually had lunch in a spot with tables that has a huge tree in the middle and a bunch of plants around it. Obviously, there's a beehive SOMEWHERE around. Whenever we drank Coca Cola or a sweet juice they used to take there, they'd come say hello... I'd be walking around the table trying to avoid it... Usually he'd help remove the bee Sometimes, we'd trap the bee in a cup just so we could eat, and release it as soon as we could He has, more than once, pat the bee And I just look at him like "What kind of witchcraft is this...?!"

Idk. Wasps can be Ornery, but... I'm not allergic, if I get stung I grab a hand full of plantain and the stinging is gone in a couple minutes. Never been stung by yellow jackets. But Cow Killer and cicada killer HURT! It's all a necessary part of an ecosystem though. Wasks and yellow jackets eat other insects, yellow jackets make burrows, that can then be occupied by other wildlife when the colony eventualky dies or moves.... I don't worry about them, they rarely worry about me.

After a bit of detective work it was discovered that the workers were feasting on discarded sweets which had intense colours. The honey was beautiful to look at, safe to eat. The factory where the bees were feasting removed the sweeties and the bees had to find another source of food. Personally I'd have loved to be eating blue or green honey. I love bees.

@jmhobbs85
@jmhobbs85 11 ай бұрын
HMF in sucrose syrup is made by either high heat or extended time at temperature. Nobody makes 2:1 syrup with cold water, you'll be mixing all day to get it into solution. Warm or hot water to make syrup for bees is fine, just don't boil it or leave it on heat. Do consider when you feed though. If it is during a nectar flow when supers are on, you are probably diluting real flower honey with your sugar syrup, unbeknownst to the beekeeper.

Any other day, I'd usually have trapped it between two window slidings because well.... What else could I've done? But this time, I put my hand near it inorder to open the window for it to escape and it stayed still, patiently waiting for me to do it. And flew away as soon as the window was open. as someone that works at a garden center outside among all the bugs all day, wasps are very chill unless you directly mess with their nest, and paper wasps (the kind we usually associate with wasps) tend to keep theirs in higher hard to reach easy to see places, building out of the spot they chosen with a visible paper nest the real problem child is the yellowjacket, because they are extremely defensive and built their nests internally, like under ground or inside dead logs. since the structure is internal and not easily visible, its easy to step on and unintentionally threaten yellowjackets. if you just see one little yellowjacket buzzing around you, either slowly walk away and let it lose interest, or if youre feeling brave, just let it land on you (if you arent deathly allergic or anything, just in case lol). its most likely following because something about you smells good, possibly your sweat, and should lose interest quickly. of course, just like people, some individual critters are just jerks and might get you for no reason that you can fathom 😂 but those individuals are pretty rare and imo, not worth killing the ones you see over. ive worked at this garden center for 2 years around tons of them (including a cool bald faced hornet once) and not been stung yet. and thats as someone that has to habitually stick my hands into the plants to prune and tidy them 😂

You’re 100% correct that swatting is worse than being still. I promise though that most of these critters are far more interested in the sweet snacks their hunting than being defensive, although I totally understand a healthy fear of them.

I love wasps!! They get such a bad rep. We had one that would visit our porch when I put the sugar water out for the humming birds the first year. I was so sad that there were no birds, then I saw a little wasp drinking up. I kept telling my mom, “well, at least someone’s grateful for my hard work!” I didn’t see her this year, though 😭😭

They don't get a bad rep. They _earn_ a bad rep. My girls love insects and know all about how important pollinators are, but those assholes have stung them when they were just trying to get into the house. The stupid wasps didn't even have a nest in front of the house!

@blazeycakes93 the problem though is that people anthropomorphize them too much. Wasps don't hate you, they don't hate humans, they're not angry or seeking you out. They're not capable of higher thought or human-style emotions lol. They're animals that act on instinct against perceived threats, and some animals just inherently have a more aggressive temperament, it doesn't make them "mean".

On hot Chicago summer days right before school started, I would be standing near the large dumpsters were bees were just buzzing around getting whatever sweets were inside, meanwhile I would be having my hand out enough for them to notice the sucked on green jolly rancher, they loved it. Never got stung once but did get yelled at cause it was dangerous.

My baby wafer loved her honey, she was a wasp I rescued, unfortunately she had passed last year and I truly miss her, she had torn wings so she couldn't fly, so I took care of her intill her last breath she would stick with me on my walks and nuzzle into my hoodie pockets when it was cold, loved her so much

So sweet ❤ To people leaving mean comments about this beautiful wasps, just know that theyre important pollinators who deserve as much love as bees (sometimes more, the species in this video is native to the americas while the honeybee isnt) Dont let being stung by one lead you to hating them. I really love that your videos found me. I am also for the most part not scared of bugs. I had some fun with the orb weaver spiders that lived ouside my barracks. I liked letting them crawl around on my arm, not a bad party trick either. I will admit though i dont stick around very long with the flying types, i have irish hair amd theres a lot of it and that is a major fear of mine. My hair doesnt like to return combs let alone a tiny living being.

Once bees (and wasps!) get into a robbing frenzy they will attack any weaker hives within their range. I've lost starter colonies due to this. Another reason it's a bad idea is it's a great way for bee parasites and pathogens to spread.
@YallBeeKind
@YallBeeKind Жыл бұрын
We’ve been letting the bees clean out frames before putting them up for winter for several years and most beekeepers do the same as far as I’m aware. Do you leave your supers wet when stored or an alternative to keep them protected for wax moth or beetles? They are far enough away that we don’t see issues with robbing and we do monitor what’s going on at the bee yard through the day/days we do this
