Restoring an original WADKIN AGS10 fence.
Thanks to a generous viewer I got my hands on an original fence for my WADKIN BURSGREEN AGS 10 Table saw.
With this fence, I am another step closer to having the perfect beast of a saw in my small single-garage hobby workshop.

Whoa there, please don't apologize for longer videos. I typically enjoy videos that are longer. Especially Creators that are making How-To videos that aren't just ASMR videos of them throwing wood on their bench and carelessly tossing their tools around. I have always appreciated your style and clarity. I have built your multifunction workbench here in the states and have had countless views and compliments on the build on my channel. I too am going to a smaller bench this year but will truly miss the big ole girl. I've built many pieces of furniture on her and she will be missed. Anyway, keep up the awesome work!

Beautiful Work! I’ve been eyeing my fence on my old Delta Rockwell 10. Sort of inherited it when we bought our home. Poor thing had sat out in the weather before it was stored in my shop and pretty much abandoned. My friend rewound the Baldor Motor. He (RIP) owned an Electric Motor shop and as I recall he charged me $125 American . He wound it in his “Spare Time”. I believe that is now a HIGH Dollar motor. I built a new extension table with a Router mount and dolled up the surfaces which is due to be done again. Adding a Link Belt is the absolute best thing you can do to smooth these old relics out running wise. And now you have given me perfect incentive to rehab my fence. Thanks for a Great Video. Cheers.

Thanks for the extended video, nice way to top off the night of binge watching. I've got a nice pile of tools I need to get cracking on and cleanup, restore, and put back into use so this helped get me in the mindset to get working on them.

@woodshopjunkies thanks for the lesson. When you are done with the rust remover...try sending it through a funnel and filters...cheese cloth first will filter out any debris (I highly recommend cleaning with a degreasing dish soap and hot water and a scrub brush first). Then repeat the filter process with large coffee filters...this is slow but it allows it to be reusable! That stuff is really expensive but definitely worth the cost!

That was so fortunate to get the original part. And the restoration is awesome. I also use evaporust myself. The beauty of this liquid it is a nontoxic agent and you can reuse it over and over. I use disposable paint strainers just to remove any large metal particles. (You should have been sponsored after using it for the entire restoration. Hint, Hint Evaporust Company)

I think you should build yourself a shower curtain paint booth. It is cheep and can be packed up small. Basically frames with a bar on the top whare you can hang your curtains on, it is also scalable

That’s a beautiful saw, machines of a certain vintage are just so much nicer. Especially table saws that originally came with a riving knife, and you really really really should get that sorted, it makes this thing so much safer. If your fence is not 100 % straight, you might end up guiding shorter pieces into the blade towards the end, and without a riving knife that’s actively asking for trouble. But even with a perfect setup, a riving knife is critical. Nothing bad ever happens, until it does and changes your life in a very shitty way.

I just bought a 1968 Delta contractors saw with solid cast iron wings. It came with a 30" Jet-Lock fence that is almost identical to the fence you polished up here. It is nice to have a 'fresher course...thank you! These fences were the cat's meow for many, many years. Often copied, but never duplicated. Still, until Biesmeyer (sp) started manufacturing their T-square style fence in the early 1990's, they were king. Rock solid, stable, and easy to realign should one come out of square. The micro adjustable feature is indispensable for the type of work I like to do. I am slightly jealous of your brass inlay scale on the front fence bar. What a cool touch!

I dip steel wool into Paint remover to scrub awkward areas and steel wool gets into pitted areas also and if necessary I wipe the item down with a cloth and white spirits as it evaporated quick but I usually let the item rest for a few hours after wiping it down with white spirits so it allows plenty of good time for full evaporation

Very nice Jean!I did exactly the same to my AGS10 and that standard fence works just fine... cannot justify spending big bux on an aftermarket one. I've watched your whole series, like in binge watching. What a great introduction to your channel! I enjoy seeing you spot and address various challenges, like welding that crack in the case, or making your own replacement rod in the fence in the next previous video. I think your paint job turned out really well--your instinct to match the original black/silver (or gray) of the faceplates was spot on. Also, your instinct to go with a heavy, cast-iron, pulley-drive system for accuracy's sake was entirely justified just with that demo of running the machine with the coin on edge on top not moving at all. Convincing. I do have one question, and that is that there seems to have been no thought to dust collection? Seems like that's a pretty critical component of any restoration in a modern shop. Thoughts?
@WoodshopJunkies
@WoodshopJunkies 11 ай бұрын
Thanks! I am currently designing add-ons and modifications for the saw. Things like dust collection. I will only get to those, however, once I have completed the riving knife and blade guard repair which I am working on at the moment.

@@WoodshopJunkies Fantastic! Can't wait to see your repairs! You're one of the reasons I haven't watched network TV in any place but doctor's offices for years now. : ) I'm actually really curious how you will integrate dust collection, given that your frame is open to allow the motor to swing with a beveled blade, for example.

Hi Juan, another great restoration / clean up and so good to see that cabinet saw coming back to life! One question, did you check to see that the fence is parallel to the blade? How would you make adjustments to the fence to get it into alignment?

Why don’t you build your own sand blaster? Then it can as simple or complex as you need or want it to be. I myself went with as simple as possible since I only have one project I need to sand blast. I used an air nozzle for an air compressor and a 20oz pop bottle. Of course with what you’re doing, this won’t be anywhere near sufficient, but maybe you could build a bigger and more elaborate one. It would certainly make a fantastic video.
