A lot of the “creeps in the store” ones resembles stories of my own. I knew the moment the woman from the first story said that the man wasn’t carrying a shopping basket or looking at anything in the aisle that he planning on following her out of the store. Exact same thing has happened to me twice. *Girls(guys too, but I ain’t one so I can’t speak for your guts), if you get a gut feeling that someone is a creep, you’re right.* My grandmother told me that, she said the there’s a difference between being uncomfortable and being creeped out, a clear one, and that it’s you’re survival instinct telling you you’re in danger if you feel “creeped out”.

💯 Honestly, I think that privilege plays a part in it. If you don't grow up in a disadvantaged area/circumstances, your parents might tell you that most people are good and you should be polite to everyone. Whereas parents whose children live in less secure areas/don't get as much police support can stress caution because people can have ulterior motives and how they need to protect themselves over everything. Black women, for example, get the "strong" stereotype due to having to DIY life. If we don't have male support, we have to take on more responsibility for our safety (which, unfortunately, makes us be labeled as "manly" despite the fact that people copy our features, bodies, hair, and skin tone worldwide -- proving the label is b.s.). And for anyone who gets annoyed by this theory, I've listened to hours of these stories daily for years (as well as true crime all my life). You can always tell who's telling the stories based on if they think someone is creepy yet still smiles and waves at them, talks to them even though they're uncomfortable, and doesn't lock their doors/windows, doesn't get help right away when something feels wrong, isolates themselves (e.g., going to the bathroom, down an alley, etc.) when they feel they're in danger, etc. They're used to being safe and having protectors, so they don't get it. *It's not 100%, but it's incredibly common.*

I think the best thing to do in a situation like that when you’re in public is talking very loud and try to draw as much attention to the situation as possible and make them look like the creepy predators that they r. Say very loudly what do u mean u can teach me a lesson? I said I didn’t want to go to a party with u so I don’t know y you’d wanna teach me something instead. If a lot of people hear that and see these 2 creepy guys standing way too close to an obviously scared looking girl hopefully people will come help or they’ll leave

Story #1 People NEVER shop alone at night and kudos to you for alerting the teenage girls. Handled like a boss. Call security and police. This is what I would do and let them know that I am armed. No call the cops here NOW, we can get these guys arrested. I would've shot at the van. And let everyone in the store think you are a paranoid freak, you will be a safe and alive "paranoid freak". Stories #6&7 people you have GOT to teach your daughters how to deal with these situations until society teaches sons this behavior is WRONG. Arm your kids with whatever legal weapons they can have based on their age. Unfortunately it is NEVER safe for a child/kid/teenager to walk alone be they male or female. Discussions need to be had people.

People who are in a situation where your life feels threatened because someone is following you or you're approached and threatened. Call the police department. I know that sometimes the dis batch tells people that if the person hasn't done anything they can't do anything. But as long as you call and give them your name number location and a description of the person if you can. Know this every call is recorded and if anything happened to you they now have something to go with.

The human trafficking thing in the US seems so insane and scary. It's always weird when people introduce the concept of locking their doors as something exceptional. That's one of my pet peeves when it comes to these stories. Human trafficking does not normally begin with an abduction - it starts with grooming. Think of it: who is easier to control, an adult who has just been abducted, or a vulnerable teenager who has grown to trust his or her captor? Not saying the guys weren't creepy, but so many of these experiences are attributed to trafficking. These may just be garden variety creeps - probably up to no good but they're not going to sell you to a saudi prince.

I live in the Midwest and I had the EXACT same thing happen to me at a target. I was in a full leg brace bc I had just had knee surgery and I was with my sister. He kept getting closer to my sister and I (he was young probably around my age or younger (I’m 19) and slightly shorter than me. I’m 5’10 and my sister is 6 ft and we aren’t small women. But I was vulnerable bc I couldn’t run. I could hardly walk bc it was a leg straightening brace. While I was allowed to walk on it I couldn’t bend my knee at all. And two guys that could’ve been brothers kept following us. I just assumed they wanted to steal my purse bc they always appeared on that exact side. Luckily my sister noticed (I was oblivious at first bc I was looking at ice cream) but he followed us to the tampon isle, Through the makeup, etc. finally we found a male employee and was talking to them. When they walked passed and saw us they stopped then they saw the employee and RAN. Like how much more guilty could you be. But after that an employee walked with us while we finished shopping and anytime we saw them we let him know. But basically we had two LARGE security officers for target walk us to our car. And he said they will keep a look out. They wrote a report. He warned us to keep an eye out to see if they follow us home and if they did to call the cops. I gotta give target so much credit. They believed us and kept us safe 110%. Ever since then I’ve only gone to target at night bc similar things have happened at Walmart and they basically didn’t do anything bc it’s a regular occurrence there and more of a nuisance to the employees, while target genuinely cared about our safety.
