Hey Thonny, LOL been following you for a few years now. I lived in Las Vegas and would travel down to Treasure Island twice a year and my favorite spot was John Pass for BIG Snook. This February I moved down to Cape Coral and I am learning the fishing areas down here. Have you ever fished down in Cape Coral? Anyhow I too have signed up with Salt Strong fishing club down here so it is funny to see you repping their products now as well. If you do, look me up as I got myself a great 24' Center Console and have been getting the AJ's, Goliath Grouper, Red Grouper, Snook and Reds. Keep up the good work!

I appreciate it! I haven’t fished Cape Coral yet but I beard the snook are huge over there. Salt Stromg is awesome! Offshore fishing sounds like a lot of fun.

We’re learning at the same time it appears. We recently moved to Ft. Myers ourselves and I’m using my freshwater skills to learn more about this saltwater fishing. Good luck.

Dude, you ever use micro/ casting jigs? Like Shimano Currentsniper, or any of the micro series from jigpara for example? In my experience those things slay considerably more than the bucktails you were throwing. Give them a try, 15 grams is the ideal weight for the majority of your fishing as long as the current isn’t ripping. If you hit skyway, I’ve gone as much as 30 grams in incoming/ outgoing tides. I’ve landed everything from Pompano to Goliaths on them
@ShinkiZer0 Жыл бұрын
Rod, reel and line do you use for those jigs? Thanks!
@Ggutierrez1936 Жыл бұрын
@@ShinkiZer0 For sure! Just understand you don’t have to spend the money I did to do this type of fishing, unless you have the money to spend or enjoy the hobby as much as I do. Or both lol Rod- Shimano Teramar (model # TMSE70MB) Reel- Daiwa BG MQ 3000 Line- Daiwa J braid 8 grand in 15lbs. If you only plan on doing inshore or onshore fishing, I’d go with either 10lbs or even 8lbs J braid for cast ability. I use 15lbs because I use it half the time for offshore applications as well. I use an FG knot from braid to leader, then typically a uni knot to a micro swivel, which is connected to a split ring attached to the jig itself. When I go offshore and use this set up, I’ll usually tie a TN knot on the swivel for added strength. Let me know if you have any other questions. Tight lines!
@ShinkiZer0 Жыл бұрын
@@Ggutierrez1936 thanks! leader lbs you use for inshore and offshore? If your offshore do you cast it far or you work it like spj?
@Ggutierrez1936 Жыл бұрын
@@ShinkiZer0 For inshore it depends where I’m fishing. If I know the only thing I’m probs going to land are mangroves, and trout for example, I’ll do 12lbs mono. Can’t remember the brand, but I get it at Walmart. For just about every other situation (by that I mean like 90% of my use with this setup) I’ll do 15lbs Ande or seagar floro. Only time I deviate from the 15lbs is if I know there’s Macks around. In which case I’ll add maybe 6-8in of 30lbs tippet. Only cause when they see the jig, they turn into mercury missiles with scissor mouths and cut you off. The jigs are anywhere from $5-$12, so losing them sucks. For offshore, I leave the 15lbs floro and tie the TN. As long as some toothy asshole doesn’t come along, you should be fine. Understand it is the ocean, they do exist, and they will take your jig. I just make peace with it lol. As to how I fish it, both! I cast that thing a country mile, let it sink to about the middle column, then pitch it, and reel. The action on these things is ridiculous. The Japs are no joke when it comes to fishing. On the retrieve, it mimics an evading bait fish, and on the fall it mimics a wounded or dying bait fish
@ShinkiZer0 Жыл бұрын
@@Ggutierrez1936 i hear ya! thanks for the input. Just didnt commit to lsj or micro jigging yet. I do alot of pompano jigging inland and spj offshore. Might as well give it a try since i like jigging alot. What depth do you usually use 15 and 30g? Thanks
