The Dog part was worse than though, because the blood trail shows that Daisy was not killed outright, but through pain dragged herself to John, because he was her source of comfort, but he could not give her any because he was unconscious. John woke up seeing this and imagined her fear and pain and himself being helpless yet again when someone he loved was dying. And in this case he could not even be there for her.

Alex's initial perplexity to how supporting characters in this film react when John Wick's name is mentioned is exactly what the directors, Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, wanted out of the audience. It made John Wick into a standard in the art of cinematic world-building. This movie neither dumbs down everything (by having a narrator explain things) nor does it employ flashbacks that muddle the flow of the plot. The world is presented to the audience in the form of interactions between characters, and the attentive audience is taken on an exhilarating ride through this alive, yet invisible world of assassins.

i never understood how you could NOT understand that. Its so very obvious. He has a perfect shot lined up, and misses by several inches, from less than 500 feet away. 19:25 - Actually, the "weight loss" line was Francis speaking in code (there is A LOT of code speak in the John Wick movies). Beyond the sequels for this movie, if you want something similarly as awesome, I suggest Nobody and Extraction. Both of them have enough influence from John Wick that you could argue that they're set in the same universe.

Nobody has the same writer. Definitely worth it for the soundtrack alone, but it still has the long shot action sequences instead of the chop cuts and shaky cam that Hollywood is so inundated with.

@@Dilirium23 If you don't like the constant chop cuts and shaky cam, go old school, Shaw Brothers Martial Arts films. Yeah they're cheezy on the surface, but when you're watching in the original languages and reading the subtitles the acting performances are better than average. But they really shine in the fight choreography. Long cuts, distanced cameras, very few stuntmen. Look for Five Deadly Venoms, Invincible Shaolin, Shaolin Master Killer (also known as The 36th Chamber of Shaolin), Shaolin Challenges Ninja, Deadly Mantis, and lots more from the same studios.

*Little fun fact* Keanu Reeves actually had the flu while filming the club scene, and yet he still did a large majority of his own stunts and combat. It’s also in talks that Keanu allegedly used a lot of his own personal grief and trauma into shaping John Wick’s character, but this has yet to be confirmed.

4:30 there is actually a name for that urge. It is called cuteness aggression. Where you see something so adorable that you that it triggers aggressive impulses in you. There is a few explanations for this behavior. Some think that the cuteness simply overloads your brain, and causes you to go into fight or flight mode. Since we don't see them as an actual threat, we often default to fight mode. Others just think it is a carry over from when we were still hunter gatherers, and seeing small helpless looking creatures triggers our hunter instincts.

I'm not a big action movie buff, but sometimes I'll put one on just to mindlessly pass time. I did this with Wick, and ended up being surprised by how much the movie impressed me. Usually action scenes are just flashy, totally unrealistic sensory blasts, but I loved the fact that Wick always shoots everyone a minimum of Twice. He makes sure opponents are down and out of the fight. He doesn't kill someone and walk away leaving a perfectly good fully loaded weapon by the corpse when he himself is almost out of ammo. Little details like that make me actually pay attention to the action stuff instead of just letting it roll across my eyes.

Yeah I check out during action scenes in MCU movies because they're just a bunch of CGI flash, was not the case with this movie.

One of my favourite things about this movie is that keanu was intensively trained on how to use guns and i can’t remember if it was the 1st 2nd or 3rd movie but in one of them he straight up throes a gun at someone once he’s out of ammo showing that he’ll always find a way to fight using what’s at hand rather than having a magic gun that never runs out of ammo along with aimbot where all his hots always hit the head
@andreaislandgirl7202 жыл бұрын
"gooch" I love this movie. They tried really hard to make the shooting scenes as realistic as they could. Keanu did a ton of training (there's videos of that which are amazing), plus he actually is seen reloading his gun repeatedly, something that sometimes gets missed in other action movies. And yeah, the part with the dog gets me every time.
@hinney8272 жыл бұрын
One of my favorites! Not because it's a super deep story or anything, but the sheer effort that these people put into making this movie with the training and the choreography is unreal. 3:57 The directors put a little bacon grease on his beard so the dog gets attracted to the sent. Also fun fact about Francis 19:10 the conversation about him losing 60 pounds was him telling John how many guards are in the building.

The "dinner reservation for twelve" is code for "I need you to come clean up a dozen dead bodies from my home", which, for obvious reasons, you can't just blatantly say over the phone. The coins are the currency that the assassin's guild uses internally. I hate that you missed that Marcus was actually protecting John when he shot his pillow as Perkins was sneaking into his room and when he shot the one guy while John had the bag over his head. Check out the videos of Keanu doing tactical training for these movies. Guns, knives, and martial arts. He learned how to do everything. No gun was shown firing more bullets before reloading than they would actually be able to fire in real life. And that wasn't a "bracelet" we kept seeing. It was the dog's collar.

My favorite scene is when the cop comes for the noise complaint, he sees the bodies on the floor & just calmly asks John if he is working again. The cop knows better than to try & arrest John because John would just kill him. If he called for backup it would just get even more cops killed so he just says good night & walks away.
