In an earlier episode (Menage a Troi) it is established that Betazoids can't sense Ferengi emotions because of their brain structure being so different. So Troi's claim of not sensing tension in the Ferengi may be literally true, but misleading since she wouldn't sense it even if it were there.

I love how they call it worthless. Assuming this end of the wormhole remains stable for a significant amount of time or permanently they could still drop communication and sensor probes through for data collection, long term study and communications access. It would have been a perfect acquisition for the research centered species.
@WhatKindOfNameNow
@WhatKindOfNameNow 2 жыл бұрын
Well, the second part of your assumption (the "local" end of the wormhole staying stable permanently) is addressed in the clip itself. It will eventually become unstable on both ends. And yeah, it might still be worth something for sending probes and getting data out of, but relative to a stable means of quick transit to the Delta Quadrant, it's worthless.
@augustday9483

@@develynseether4426 Yeah it's a writing inconsistency but it's my headcanon that Troi's empathy can sometimes catch emotions from minds that are protected against full-on telepathy. Behind-the-scenes documents established where each doorway went, but some of those places were never seen on screen. To clarify everything, I'll use both shipboard directions and the perspective of a viewer seeing the bridge from the typical angle, at the front of the bridge near the viewscreen. The starboard aft door alcove (at the back of the bridge on the viewer's left) had doors to the observation lounge, which is the conference room we see all the time, and a bathroom that we never saw. The port aft doorway (at the back on the viewer's right) was the most frequently used turbolift. The port fore alcove (in the front on the viewer's right) contained the door to the ready room, which we saw all the time, and a door to another turbolift that was used less often. The starboard fore doorway, (front, viewer's left), which I assume is the one you're referring to, is supposed to lead to an emergency turbolift that connects to the battle bridge. I'm pretty sure it was never seen on screen.

It seems that the producers agreed; later shuttles and runabouts were far more attractive. I'd let them off the hook and chalk it up to budgetary issues, but bad design is bad design.

@@SWIFTO_SCYTHE eh the voyager thing can be explained by off screen trade, but how they managed to find the exact same shade of "federation grey" everywhere is beyond me. Would have been cool to see voyager patching different parts of the hull over time so it looked different by the end of the series

I wouldn't say worthless. Starfleet probes are much more advanced and while the Barzan side is stable Starfleet could use the wormhole to send probes to wherever the other end appears, gathering detailed information on sectors the Federation have little-to-no knowledge of.

Proud of a woman for sleeping with a man who was not named "James Tiberius Kirk"? I suppose that's possible, but only after she slept with the captain of the Enterprise "No A, B, C, or D" first.
