Gonna be riding my first race April 8, a Sprint Enduro at Hard Labor Creek Off-Road Park in Chipley, FL. A huge part of it is thanks to you, Josh. Thanks brotha. Would be cool to see you there, but I'm pretty sure it isn't in your series. You're progressing very well, though. Don't be afraid to lean that bike over in the turns! I was always scared af to take a turn at ANY kind of speed, and once i finally got the balls to do it, my speed around the trails damn near doubled. Sometimes ya just gotta sack up.

Despite the inauspicious start, nicely done, Josh. There’s a fine balance to higher and lower gear selection. In this run, I’d say you made some things tougher on yourself with the gear selection bogging down the bike and thus not allowing the “escape” you needed from the slower tougher spots of the course. Spin your plug out first chance you get and you probably fouled it a bit and that will prove the point. Nice job and keeping going, Bro.

So, the former military, partial OCD ass I am .....get a camping box. (big bin/tub thing from wally world or somewhere) Get a packing list of things you have/need. Laminate or put in binder. Fill said tub. Have a check list of what you have. If/when you run low, check next to it. And, either post race or pre-race prep....check said list to see if you need anything. Oh, and stand the hell up, look ahead and smile. (my sky diver instructor taught me to smile while in free fall...it forces you to relax)

So do you like the mud, or dry ground better ? My first attempted race did not go as planned. I live in the mid west and flooding has hit our area hard. I was going to check out the track, and made it down the first muddy hill, through the creek, and on the other side was deep deep mud. Then I hit the muddy up hill, and only made it half way before I slid over. For the first race on a new bike I decided I would be better off to wait for dry ground since my skill level on a dirt bike is 0.

If anyone ever wondered how much effect self talk has on a persons psychology this video is perfect. Full practice lap of "your gonna die", " person could get punished for hotdoggin", "I just hope I dont break my arm", "I gotta drive that truck home"......I could have told you how the whole race would go only seeing this part of video. One of the biggest things all athletes are thought is possitive thinking, goal visualisation and possitive talk. It is just like looking ahead and not watching the rut all they way to your tire. If you worry about the wreck and watch the rut....you crash in the rut. If you visualize yourself past the rut and down the trail, you drive right by it without issue. You almost sound like Rickey Bobby without the cougar in the car.🤣🤣

Great job man. Im sure its been said before, but try to have confidence in your riding. Dont ride thinking or saying, "dont crash", cause you will spend your time riding defensive and hesitant and probably crashing even more. I know its easier said than done, trust me, but confidence really helps me ride better. If i crash and that shit gets in my head i find myself for the next bunch of miles, bashing trees with my bars and feeling like its my first day on a bike. Just thought id throw that out. i realize this is a 2 yr old vid but i just stumbled up onto your channel. dig the content, especially the dirt stuff. i see you riding a 6 days ktm (great bike). guess if i could give a lil advice it would be get that thing to a suspension shop and have it set up for your weight and riding style. race bike suspensions are hella stiff and never smooth out unless you are riding fast. the slower you go the harder they are to ride and will kick your ass in an instant. if that bike were sorted for you it would be so much easier for you to ride and you would start having more fun and slowly pick up speed. love your attitude... keep at it!

Awesome video dude. Hey I just wanted to say, I'm new to racing too (Just did my 3rd District 37 race out here in California) and I recently got a steering dampener and got it tuned just right. Made a HUGE difference. I went from 4 crashes my second race to 0 my 3rd race. It doesn't look like you got one on there, but maybe you do? Maybe tighten it up a tiny bit if so. Just a tip from a fellow beginner.

I enjoy your racing videos the most, I was gonna do my first hare scramble last weekend but I broke my collarbone instead so now I’m healing up and gotta wait 3 months! Oh well!

Oh shit! I’m so sorry to hear that man, you’ll be in my thoughts. Make sure to let me know when you finally get to do your first race!

Man it looks like so much fun but like you I just can't risk a broken arm or leg and be out of work for months. I would like to get a beater 250 some day and do some trail riding. Thanks for the video.

I couldn’t recommend it more! Even if you never race it’s still the most fun ever
