The fenders aren't "glued" on. I've rebuilt 8 totaled Corvettes. I can remove a front fender in 20 minutes. The only thing that IS glued on are the non-convertible roofs. I've removed those too. BTW, there's a Corvette in the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY with over 750,000 miles on it that's never had a major repair. It's a 1999, same year as my present ride. Last week my next door neighbor followed me onto the freeway with his Tesla and egged me into a race. We went hammer down from 50 MPH to 100. I beat him .... by about 30'. He was shocked and it made my day. At 100 we were coming up on traffic just as my RPM limiter kicked in at 6,000 RPM in third gear.

When you raise the top and it's almost in place, I think you can hear a 'bump' at 18:56. That sound is likely from the plastic piece (that hides the top when down) that raises up behind the seats, hitting the bottom of the of the convertible top area by the rear window as they pass each other as the plastic cover is closing. That happens because of a couple of cloth like plastic straps under the top liner that stretch over time, causing the rear window section to be slightly lower - allowing it to bump into the other piece. People just punch a new hole in the strap maybe a 0.5" back (not positive about that distance) to remedy the problem. Hope that made sense! 2009 black C6 vert owner. Thanks for the video!
@Muffinshaker
@Muffinshaker 3 жыл бұрын
It’s the forward center edge of the deck lid hitting the inner/upper window trim as the folded top (rear window) is not pulled in sufficiently to clear ( like it was when new). My 2012 C6 manual top straps lasted only 2-1/2 years before stretching. I have been lightly pushing the window to clear when top dropping down and opening.

@John Smith This Corvette made in Japan would not be reliable. It is still engineered horribly and put together with inferior parts which is the real tell of what makes a car good and reliable. I can have Japanese master techs build a race car but if I give them a bunch of poop and wooden Sticks and tell them to build me a car they would build me a pile of shit. You need a few things to have a reliable car. Fast, reliable, and cheap. Those three are the trifecta.

On your headlights, don't bother with the replacement "lens" ... simply scuff off the 1/8" of clear coat on the existing ones, apply the "solvent" to fuse the crazing back together, sand, buff and a light clear coat and you'll be golden !!! From personal experience. Replacement headlights are crazy expensive ($2,400 for the pair) so that's what I did on my 2007 C6 Z06 when I was in Athens, Greece ... 5 years later (and a couple of Countries later) still look like new. Good luck ... it's a 5 hour job BTW ... the guy in Greece that did mine was like "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" on how thick the GM Clear Coat was originally !!!

I have been a automotive restoration specialust for over 20 years, specializing in Paintless Dent Repair and paint correction. I work for a local car lot. I also do interior repair, headlamp repair and refinishing etc. I would give this one the business! I would buff out any scratches using disipative compound, and then polish it with Malco polishing creme...touch up chips, touch up scratches that are too deep to buff out, I use a headlamp repair system from Keystone, replacing the hard coat after proper prep...I would clean interior really well and use dye on the faded parts, also recently been learning how to repaint and repair the wheels...its going well, I use either a magnesium colored paint, or paint shaded "dull aluminum" on wheels .I sand and properly clean and mask wheels before repainting. Also not to rant but the one thing I do to almost every car, which produces stellar results, is using Showroom shine spray wax and a special microfiber towel with the synthetic clay on one side. It makes for a super smooth feel, and also its much easier to buff and remove the polish. Las but not least. I use a trim restore like Rustolem Trim Restore on all plastic trim like accents and cowl. Lastly I would black out the inner fenders with a semigloss black, then use a ceramic application on the finish and buff to a Masterpiece. It would take me about two days.

My 7 speed Corvette would regularly average 33-34mpg on long freeway trips. Best tank ever was 36.7mpg average with 544 miles on the tank. At the end of the day its still just a chevy pushrod v8, as long as the electronics hold up they will run forever. It legit had the best MPG out of the 9 cars in my fleet, it was even doing better than my Corolla.

My 95 Camaro convertible has 333,000 miles. And for about $2k I replaced the steering rack, and front suspension and rear shocks, and tuneup. Just to get rearended by an uber. Totalled check was $7200, jacked the trunk out and bumper poped in place, still have rear fender wrinkles and pushed in top alignment to windshield latch. Startups like a shotgun going off, 3.4 six with no cat and turbo muffler. Only 27 years old runs like 115mph.

Why renew the seat cover and cut corners by leaving the broken seat cushioning / padding broken in place you can spot the iron support bar peaking well through the left bolster there where people meet the seat when they get in or out repairing is some time but under 50 to 100 you have that fixed also and it makes the seating much better and also the durability of your “new” seat cover last longer than a few thousand miles.

IIRC, the coils are made by Denso. The LS2 coil is very reliable and offers a much hotter spark at high RPM over the LS1 coils. The engine looks cared for, but not detailed. I would do valve cover gaskets and seals. At this age, I would think all seals should be dealt with. This would make a great entry level starter Vette for anyone. With that said, leave the paint. This will allow the next owner to select the colour, if they don't want black.

Out of curiosity, are these auctions only for 'dealer licensed'? I had one for 30 years in Texas as a way of buying mainly older cars muscle cars and European exotics cheap. I had a shop in a office warehouse of about 1,500 sq' for everyone to hang-out. I also had a nice old Jerr-dan Rollback. I only had one old car lift but it was a Godsend. My reason for this shop was a get together spot mainly for Viet Vets such as myself. Pre Iraq, etc. The rollback was great except of constantly being asked to get buddies breakdowns, etc. I know have a huge old 6+ car barn (cement floor and climate controlled for working on my projects. Still have the lift but no rollback. Just a flatbed dovetailed trailer. Now that I'm a in my 70's I'm considering starting to unload a lot of my stuff. I have a '67 427 Vette that I bought in '72 from a old gentlemen who lost his son during the Tet offensive in '68. I had only 2700 miles on it at the time. I recently sold a '56 Mercedes Benz 220S Cabriolet I bought in '73 for only $1,250 (down to with 5 sports cars). I hardly drove it and I saw what they were selling for. It had a beautiful rich blue finish a luxurious interior with only 12,000 miles. A MB dealer in Florida bought it for his showroom. Wow, I didn't think at 1 AM+ I'd get so sidetracked talking shop. Thx, for your video!

That is a beautiful Corvette! It speaks very highly of what GM can do when they want to. Decoding RPO codes is the best way, but another way to get if the car is a base or Z51 is the presence of drilled/slotted rotors. Base cars had solid discs, if I'm not mistaken. This is not fool-proof though as someone could have replaced the OE solid rotors with drilled/slotted ones.

People in urban areas in apts and condos, thats over half the working age population, will be SOL and will be fighting for the existing ICE inventory after 2035. Elitist democrats dont care because the real goal isnt to get us into EVs, its taking away POVs and forcing us into mass transit. All of the cars I own have actually appreciated in value over the last few years because I bought them ultra cheap for a couple hundred euros per car while there where still plenty of them for sale and they are now starting to considerably go up in value since they are all older then 30 years by now and people are actually starting to search for them because there aren't many left and most that nowadays come up for sale are total basket cases due to rust and neglect.
