Journey of Josh

Күн бұрын

After a few weeks in Metro Manila and an incredible weekend in Bulacan (San Miguel) we have moved on to the Island of Cebu! One of the first things I was told to do when in Cebu was to try and find some delicious Pork Lechon (Suckling Roasted Pig). So in this video me and ‪@kayyywild‬ decided to check out Carbon Market on Colon Street to see what Cebuano delights we could find. As usual we met some amazing locals and had an awesome time!

Hey everyone! Hope you are all well! This is my first video on the beautiful island of Cebu! 😍 We only had a few days in Cebu City so thought why not get acquainted with the local people and food by checking out the best market we could find! Do you know any hidden gems in Cebu City I can visit next time? Let me know below! Looking forward to reading your wonderful comments as usual! Enjoy the video 😊 Much love 💖💖

@@remediosmendez1646 I have read all of your comments but as I have said before, these videos are prerecorded so there is nothing I can do about the words I am using unfortunately.. I have noted it all down however, for next time. The only reason we are using the word Mabuhay in the videos is because we were told to use it by locals, it is not a word we looked up ourselves. Nobody ever told us at any point not to use it. Thanks for the Bisaya tips though!

Josh, start from the history/discovery of cebu. Fort San Pedro, Casa Gorordo, Cebu Heritage, Cebu Cathedral, Basilica del Santo Niño. atleast that will make you a glimpse of history. Then roam around either North of Cebu where white sand beaches are like Bantayan; Then South Cebu where Springs, Waterfalls, Diving, Canyoneering are there.

Josh, actually in Cebu they have their own official language which is the "Cebuano" language and the locals also call themselves Cebuano (singular) or Cebuanos (plural). Cebuanos are very proud of their own heritage. In Cebu, Cebuanos speaks only their own Cebuano language, and English is their 2nd language. The Cebuano language or more often referred as Bisaya, or Binisaya originated in the majestic island of Cebu, is in fact widely spoken in Visayas and Mindanao regions, the two largest island regions in the Philippines. In fact, it's far more widely spoken language than any other language in the Philippines, it's the largest spoken language in the country. Cebu City which is the first and oldest city in the country, the first Capital of the Philippines, the first spanish settlement, and the Cradle of Christianity in the Philippines and in Asia or in the Far East. Cebu is like the Cradle of Civilization in the country. Cebu City was the main economic center of trade and commerce back then, and that continued up to these days. The Cebuano language "has spread from its base in Cebu" to nearby islands and regions. Due to the influx of migrants from other regions in Cebu, and the huge influence of Cebu, and Cebu played a very important role during spanish era, and continued even up to these days. Cebuanos are not fluent in filipino/tagalog language most of them learned the casual-conversational tagalog from schools, pinoy dramas, movies or opm, and beside the filipino/tangalog language is not important, not useful and not needed in Cebu. Not all Filipinos speaks the national language (Filipino) or tangalog, the fact is that the Filipino or known as tangalog language was mandatorily in forced and was only made compulsory subject in all schools in the Philippines. During the Japanese regime and the Manila Imperialism, the Tagalog became the medium of instruction in schools. In 1943, Executive Order no. 10 mandated the teaching of the national language in all schools, public and private, and the training of national language teachers on a massive scale. This is most apparent in the language problem. “Filipino language” is a myth. It’s basically just another name for the Tagalog language. But they insist on calling it Filipino. Worse, they push this language in schools, often to the detriment or loss of both English proficiency and the local native languages.

Josh, actually, the word Mabuhay is a tangalog word and Mabuhi is the Cebuano word, and it's a formal word normally used to welcome foreign guests, dignitaries, officials, or expression use by Filipino contestant in beauty pageant like Miss Universe 😂, it's an expression used to more uniquely welcome foreign visitors to the Philippines. In Cebu a simple Hi, Hello, or Bai will do. The word "Bai" (sounds like Buy in english) is a Cebuano expression which means "friend" and most likely used by male Cebuanos. Cebu is a very popular tourist destination, and there's also a surge of migrants in Cebu from other provinces in order to find work and a better living. You might hear some words that are not actually Cebuano.

When this video dropped early in the morning, I woke up, but I was still groggy, (working night shift), so I told myself I would watch it when I woke up later. hehe. Cebu offers an abundance of activities. Try the skywalk at the Crowne Regency Hotel if you're looking for something really intense to do, similar to the ride you had at the Mall of Asia. Of course, you may swim with whale sharks in Moalboal and Sardine run. You can also go to The Magellan's Cross, which is the main attraction in Cebu. Josh, don't worry, you can communicate in Tagalog wherever in the Philippines because it is our official language. However, I was giggling uncontrollably when you said LAMAY rather than LAMI. In Tagalog, LAMAY means a wake for the dead or night vigil. So be careful when pronouncing the words because you might be saying something different. HAHAHAHA... Kidding aside, Cebuano's are one of the friendliest people in the Philippines, so you're good.

I have a feeliing you are going to grow your channel big here in the philippines, just like one of those vloggers I have seen who made it big instantly. You are genuinely nice, respectful, likeable, pleasing, charming, careful, and have a soothing sound from your voice, how you say things gently and still being fun and jolly. Keep up the good work. Keep learning and speaking tagalog and visaya, engage, greet, smile, be generous, fun and show some other talents, just some of the key elements you can keep on doing and show more of. If you can learn to sing tagalog songs, do it a bit seriously, that would be a hit. talk about the latest pinoy trends, news, memes. Collab with Merghin the guy in BGC when you get there. Collab with 8 miles from home if you visit siargao. Find this guy Mr. Nobody, collab with him as well and filipino youtube sensations, etc. I really wish you the best and will keep watching your videos and see you grow.

@@TheJourneyofJosh You say you have tried blood before but was it Dinuguan? If no one told you it was made with blood I'm almost certain you would have liked it. We sometimes tell children and people its chocolate meat so they will taste it. Haha!😃 Most non Flipinos who feared it ended up loving it more than adobo or lechon🐖. I certainly don't speak for everyone but you not liking it after you tried will not offend anyone for sure. I'm from USA, pls continue your journey in the Philippines and absorb its rich culture. I wish I could do the same. Be safe and enjoy!🍻✌🏽

Please take note, sir... You are in different Philippine place with a very different language itself... And, most Cebuanos claim that they find Filipino national language hard to learn. So, better speak in English... Also, Please don't be confuse, sir... In Visayas and Mindanao area, we called Soy Sauce as 'Patis', instead of 'Toyo'... Because we don't fond to use Fish Sauce...

Thats literally streetfood or market lechon which most of the time does not have the crunch of the skin. Rico's lechon is one the famous restaurant style lechon.❤

You can simply say hi or hello to locals..mabuhay is too formal....we rarely use mabuhay when greeting a person...hello or hi is enough...

Josh, you don't need to sa mabuhay all the time. Kumusta is fine. Also, if they don't talk to you, nothing personal. They are shy and not confident with their English.

Love your videos👍😀Just be very cautious when people get near you. People may be friendly everywhere and you may feel safe around them. Unfortunately there will always be just this someone with bad intentions. That happened to me😢 Didn't even notice the one who stole my wallet. Wear your backpack in front of you instead at the back and don't put your belongings away from you. Whenever i watch foreign vloggers im always worried with the surroundings😅Don't trust too easily. Stay safe and enjoy the Philippines❤😊
