Low Stakes Mistakes 1. Image less important than I thought 2. Not taking into account what happened to a player in prior hands is more important than I thought 3. Polar squeezes happen more than I thought 4. I still check OOP, except with ok value hands. Checking OOP allows us to pick up sizing tells. Checking OOP is especially important playing deep 5. Players check back top pairs and over pairs multi way more than I thought. Try double check and then raise more often 6. Fear comes in at 300 big blinds. Under 200 big blinds, check call flop and check raise the turn 7. Bet flop check turn call river is still ok, but consider raising with calling hands that can't beat the middle pair +; Triple Broadways and rivers are notoriously under bluff raised or bet huge

Marc, I'm not sure how difficult it is to do but when you do a "list" of sorts putting breaks in the timeline would be, for me at least, very helpful. Reason being I often go back and watch these videos again to get certain points square in my head and being able to find the specific ideas easily would be awesome. Like I said, might be too much work. Thanks for the content!

1. You’re spot on w/ regard to the polar 3-bet range comment. I was one of the first in my area to start 3-betting light and was taught to just mix in some suited wheel aces and a random SC or gapper or two for range construction. I really had no plan other than 3-bet, cbet, and continue w semibluffs. Turn raise, and especially turn c/r absolutely seems stronger. So much so that against non-thinking I’ll often c/r most flops w value, but c/c flop and c/r turn, barrel river w all bluffs provided were deep enough. Lol at bluff catching better bluffs. Used to happen to my bro all the time. Love the idea to simply raise if you’re gonna bluff catch in these situations. Raising the old “post oak” bluff as Doyle used to say. I’ve been implementing you check all (most) flops oop strat and I’m enjoying the feel and results I’m getting from it. My strategy is basically what I learned over years of playing, and from reading Andrew Balugawhale Seidman’s book Easy Game Volume 3 years ago. It’s surprisingly apt for live poker even today. Enjoying the content.

That's why it's good to play the game you coach. I was told so many times that players in low stakes don't bluff the river/bluff raise the river, but they do if you give them rope in spots like that. I would just add for the nb5 that they turn random hands that shouldn't be in there by that point like gunshots or ace high into a bluff.

The squeeze sizing (in the first hand) is the most important thing in this hand, jj plus will never squeeze to this size. The squeeze is not the key it’s the sizing. I cannot emphasis how important this is. In ‘solver land’ no hand wants to go this sizing as played

Hi Marc, great content, imo there are just many spots that you have a clear read of the opponents range ( being weak or capped ) that you can profitably squeeze with any two cards specifically in low stakes.

Now I know you are a CLP coach but regardless, I’m going to ask this anyway, I’ve been playing since 2003 and I would say I’m above average in some areas but lacking in the fundamentals. Where do you think, I should go to learn the fundamentals best? Thanks! Have a gentle day.

Regarding the hand where 2 players showed up with a duce in a large pot, I would not assign them a polarized range. They are on a form of tilt and playing hands they don't always play. Some tilt is not just a recent bad beat. They could be making adjustments to a loose game, or to a bad play they saw, or being card dead, or just gambling for a bit. Not one of them has a normal polarized range that includes K2s. The key is to notice when players are on tilt and abuse them in the early streets.

Sklansky very clearly says that if you're going to squeeze in the blinds, use garbage hands..... his direction is "Don't turn AQs into 72o" The point is, if you get shoved on, you fold... so do it with hands that you don't mind folding, not good hands to take a flop with. He wrote that around 20 years ago
@mikeb635018 күн бұрын
He wrote that under the assumption that the response to your 3 bet would almost invariably be a 4 bet or a fold. This is not at all the case in modern live games, especially at the lower stakes.

You talked about constructing a polar 4 bet strategy against their polar 3 bets(which is fine), but i was wondering how you implement your normal 4 bet strategy in live poker as its supposed to be a polar strategy anyway? Obviously against tight nits and bad players this isnt necessary, but what ive noticed in live games is the regs over 3 bet as a consequence of the lack of 4 bets/getting bored, and so you can just print by over 4 bet bluffing.

Another great video but I had a question about raise sizing on #7 when you can't beat middle pair. In the video, the pot was $120ish ($80 +$40 bet) and you raised to $340 (a little over 3x). Do you think a slight overbet of $150 accomplishs the same thing? Is there a range of hands that calls $150 but folds to $340? Thanks again for another great video.

The degree to which we should adjust based on our perceived image is proportionate to the degree that our specific opponent considers our image. Making it some binary thing of doing something bc of our image vs “don’t consider your image at all” is pretty level 1.

Hey marky Marc, do you think betting the same amount or smaller than your pre flop raise induces raises that otherwise live recs wouldn’t find, or does this not matter

When players bet the same amount, it usually means they're on a draw. I've found that betting the same amount induces raises, leading to more profitability.

When it comes to squeezing hands ... You need to treat it like your three bet range from the blinds depending on your postition. Lets say im under the gun and I open A4 suited the button calls and then the big blind a reg three bets. This is actually a grest spot to 4 bet bluff if you think about his range. This is a guy who is used to getting away with bulling the nubes and the rec's and his range is really wide here so ya ... Stick it in his face game on!

@@thirdeyeliquidators329 Also, the games he plays are typically far deeper than your typical low stakes 100bb fest. 2-5 $1-1.5k max offer a lot more opportunity for bluff opportunities. Also, Marc is good at getting opponents to telegraph the strength of their hands. A typical TAG strategy is still probably the best way to maximize profits in your 100-150bb game. But when starting stacking 200 to 250bb things change and a good LAG strategy is better if you can pull it off. Many can’t. 10bb/hr is basically the cap for 100bb and still very very good at your typical 2-5 even.

I'm surprised youre so perplexed about polar squeezing. We choose weak suited aces and kings purely for card removal and 'light cooler' potential treating a hand like K2s as the NFD since sooooo much of our opponents range is going to consist of suited connectors and PP's that want to play 3bet pots IP against us putting us on the top of our range, and we can still suckout against hands like AK because we can call a 4bet with a suited wheel ace.
