I learned on a ninja 250. Bought a zzr1200. The 1400 predecessor. I had no problem with it. I understand the speed and weight and operated it within my skill level. Had no issues.

Exactly, just ride within your skill level. It’s as if everyone has to ride full throttle all the time, and that’s how they judge how hard it is to ride a particular bike.

I have ridden a Honda CBR 125, Yamaha FZ09 and updated MT09, a Ducati 1098, a Ducati V4S, a suzuki Hayabusa gen 2, a 2019 Yamaha R1M. And my current 2019 ZX14r. The ZX14r is hands down the best bike I've ridden. I love watching big name big budget sponsored "Superbike shootouts" and reviews on KZbin, and I guess no one wants to talk about it but the fact is on the street, the 14 murders them all. You simply can't ride a track bike on the street and expect a good time.

first bike was a fz600 road it for 5 years. Life moves on and I hadn't been on a bike for over 20 years. Life changed again and I felt the need to ride again. I got my 2009 zx14 and have finished my first year back. The mighty ZX14 isn't a hard bike to ride. But as you say you must be a mature rider that keeps a deep respect for the bike. If you have bad inputs this bike will amplify those to a bad end. She will only do what you tell it to do... but she will do it immediately.

Been riding for 43 years. Bought my ZZR1400 Performance sport in 2015, she rides like new and is just planted which I love, another good thing is no one bothers me, try’s to race me or acts like a twat when I’m just in a cruising mood. My last bike was a Honda Blackbird, great bike as well (until some little shits in Amsterdam stole it) Best advice I can give is ……know your limits and stay within them.

I started out on a Yamaha TZR-50, did my test on the schools old Suzuki 125 no idea the model it was. My first “big bike” was a GPZ-500S (before they did the A2 license stuff) and progressed from that to a GSX-R 600. Now I have an MT-09 Tracer but looking to try a ZZR when I can to see if it suits me as I’m very taken by them. Been riding now for almost 20 years but know I have a lot to learn still. I had a silly phase when I first got the GSX-R, I went silly fast on an empty straight road with clear visibility all the way up with no junctions etc. It made me realise just how bloody silly it is to do crazy speeds on public roads and my experience was in a controlled environment with no traffic. Had a close call on an overtake once too which scared the heck out of me. From then on I’ve been a much more sensible rider and you’re right about emotional maturity. I learned my lesson, almost the hard way. You have to respect the road and respect the machine, otherwise things can go south super fast.

When I was a younger man I had a 50, then a 125, then I had an RgV250 for a couple of years and I often had a go on my mates litre bike. Stopped riding at 20. 25yrs later having not ridden for all that time I went out and bought a ZZR1100. Was a bit intimidated at first but after a few rides I started feeling a bit more confident. You’ve just got to take it steady everywhere and slowly build up.

It's the limits in my mind that need control not the bike!!!

The largest problem is these motorcycles are so well engineered you can loose track of just how fast you're going. I had a naked Z1000 when I got it I took it out for my initial ride. My wife asked how it went and I told her it's a crazy nice bike because I was in a 45 mph turn looked down coming out of the turn and I was doing 80. From then on I really watched it because it went thru that turn like butter. These higher performance bikes are the cat's meow, have fun ride safe.

On the day I did my mod 2 at age 50 there was a 24 year old there at the same time, we both passed , here’s the difference, after we got back to base the 24 year old told me he just wanted to pin the throttle on the duel carriage way, I replied that I just composed myself and thought now I’ve passed let’s just get back safely!!! there’s the difference right there!! if I’d passed when I was 18 I might not have been here now.

Gradually moving up, GSX 600, Thundercat, Bandit 1200, Yam MT 09, Tracer, Z900, now ZZR 1400. Also got a project ZZR 600 I'm working on.

Yeah you know, that's a fair comment. People will just choose what they will choose, and more power to them. I have a 2007 Special Edition model and it's perfect for me. I ride the full range from docile to "back on the hammers" and it does it all beautifully. But I know people who just love their 750 or even "steppy". Takes all sorts to make a happy group all into their fave past-time.

I'll be riding mine for many years, if you have good throttle control, it's not a problem and it takes corners close to what my 2006 1000RR did, not exactly but damn close, especially the sweepers. I'm still not pushing it too much until I get better racing gear.

I'd definitely want to give the ZX14 a go or two. It's about the only non-Yamaha on my lust list, unless Yamaha releases a YZF 1500. 😁 I waited 20 years to get an R1 mostly because I only recently wanted one. Despite my inclinations otherwise, my first few rides were conservative. Even with the experience I have with the Fz1, I know underestimating the R1's power could leave me in a bush at best. Even though I know I risk death to ride such powerful machines I like to ride well enough to live long enough to enjoy them.

I’m 47. My first street bike was an Honda Nsr Sp Capirossi 125cc and I was 14 years old. After two years I bought a CBR F 600cc. When I was 18 years old I bought a CBR Fireblade 900cc. When I was 20 years old I bought a Suzuki GSX r 1000cc. After that I tried different bikes like enduro, Honda shadow, Suzuki 1250 bandit, BMW adventure 1200 to drive slowly but I end up to speed on bike with less stability on the road than a street bike, so more dangerous. I m waiting to get the Zx 1400 and I think nothing like a street bike make me happy and safer to ride on the roads. At my age I ride much slower and safer than when I was young, that’s for sure.

I hadn't ridden a bike regularly for 20 years, I bought my 2017 ZZR1400 in summer 2023. This bike is amazing to ride, build up your confidence gradually and it will keep you smiling all day. Probably not the best bike for a track day😂 but I got some great photos, tho I was sh@#ing myself on the track😂. I have ridden a 12.90 Super Duke, now that bike is amazing but scary. If you open it up it will try to throw you off. The ZZR1400 is like a sleeping Tiger but if you wake it up it will eat you alive. If you like going out with a group of riders on super nakeds it's hard to keep up on the twistes. But I still won't sell it, I'll just end up getting another bike I love it too much.

I bought my ZX14R when I was 58 years old to go drag racing with. Luckily we have enough wide open spaces where I live that you can explore the speeds capable of this machine. I really like this bike it's comfortable and so smooth, yet can go incredibly fast when you want to. This bike doesn't get ridden as much any more as I found a bike a little more comfortable at least for me. Last year I bought a ZH2 which is another phenomenal motorcycle. It has better ergonomics for me at 6'4" and is still incredibly fast.
