I bought my 660 last Saturday and I’ve already added 1400 kilometres to the odometer. I can’t get enough of riding this bike on the freeways and the countryside twisties of southern Sydney. It’s quite addictive. The Daytona 660 hasn’t put a foot wrong; the engine is a torque hound anywhere in the rev range, the brakes are strong and give great feedback through the upside down forks and Michelin power 6 tyres. It feels quite planted through turns, even in bumpy corners there’s scant understeer, it’s confidence building. My only complaint is there’s no high beam flashing switch or passing function available. In 30 years of riding this is the only bike I’ve had that doesn’t have this basic feature. Other than that what a bike. This is my first Triumph and what a triumphant purchase I’ve made.

I cannot for the life of me understand the praise the GSX8r gets; it's the second worst in class after the Ninja 650. for more relaxed position, the Daytona and CBR650r are objectively better in every possible way. if you want a more aggressive riding position then get the R7 (the Aprilia RS660 is in a different price bracket).

@NicePantsLance2 ай бұрын
@@SongJLikesthe only thing CLEAR is that the Daytona 660 is $2300 cheaper than the Aprilia. For the price of the Aprilia, you can have a Daytona fully kitted out with exhaust, dyno tune, and quickshifter. Not to mention, theres more Triumph dealers around, the 660 triple is proven reliable, and sounds a lot better than just another parallel twin. Aprilia might be better on the spec sheet, but after that its pretty clear which one gives you better value for the money

Having spent a LOT of time on the GSX8R I think it's an awesome machine. It's the most comfortable for me by far, has loads of low end grunt and handles very well for a sporty road bike. It has excellent track manners too and I put in my fastest time at Cadwell on one. It has some drawbacks, such as a clunky quickshifter and the pegs are a bit too low for track days but these are minor gripes. I find the Daytona, CBR and RS660 to have a more focused riding position but still not terribly uncomfortable. Just not all day comfortable like the GSX8R for me. End of the day, this category is getting packed and that is only really good for us consumers. More choice is great!

Yesterday I was at the local Triumph dealer and was absolutely astonished how beautiful this bike looks. Pictures and videos really don't do the Bike justice, you have to see it for real. That said, here in Germany it costs the same as the Aprilia RS 660 and it is objectively worse in pretty much everything spec-sheet wise, so I don't know if I can justify buying it by the looks alone - given that the RS660 also isn't looking too shabby

As a midlife crisis-er and KZbin bike video junkie, I've changed bikes 10 times in 5 years based often on reviews. I didn't test this one because nearly all reviewers talked about the front end vagueness. But your point is very true, we can't really assess a bike in a few hours, always. Dan, when I test road the 660 this summer, I found the front end vague as though the tyre pressure was low and so I only road it for a very short while before returning to the dealer and reporting what I'd experienced. The dealer seemed quite disinterested so I decided it wasn't the bike for me, which was disappointing given that I've previously owned Speed Triple R, Street Triple 675RS and Street Triple 765R. So the point you make is very valid and it's coincidental that you felt the same on first impression.

Got this one 4 weeks ago as my first bike. I watched like every video/review on the internet about it and was torn between the 8R and this one. Even with all the reviewers being kinda "meh" over this bike. As a new rider with zero experience except driving school I ofcourse have no comparison to other bikes. But Iam not biased to the old daytona name, also. So far I love this bike. I use it for daily commuting a few kilometers mostly, but also use it for touring. Longest trip was like 5 hour riding with an one hour break inbetween. The power is more than enough for me, the bike peaks at around 215-220 kph what is more than enough for me. The power is good and enough to follow an 120 PS bike easily on the road. ;) The bike is comfy enough to do day trips with a break here and there. Customization is a bit tricky for there are few special parts - like exhausts. Iam not sure about if the 660 trident exhausts work with this one because of the higher power of the daytona.

Interesting vid. It's seemingly the geometry that's slightly off. Not sure what the front /rear bias is but it possibly needs to be more towards the front than it currently is. Knowing Triumph, they'll probably take on board the feedback sooner rather than later & sort it out whatever it is as it's really the only fly in the ointment with this bike. That & no QS as standard which is easily fixed albeit with a small price hike.
@Englishbikerdan2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think they've gone for a more weight backwards bias to make it more comfortable for newer riders. No QS is such a strange choice to me.
@ragerider62832 ай бұрын
@Englishbikerdan Agree with both points. Both easily fixed & the additional cost of the QS would at worst make it the same price as the competition so no reason not to.

My initial impression on test ride was that the rear could do with a bit more ride height. Maybe an adjustable ride height shock would be the answer, which would sharpen up the steering. I wonder if the shock top mount is similar to the Street triple where you can jack it up with a spacer. That would be too easy...

Interesting! I have to say I reviewed this bike too and thought was really good so was surprised to see your comments on the previous review. I think if I didn’t already have the extra performance of the 765RS I would have 100% bought one of these. In fact, given the fairing, it’s still tempting but ( for me) the 765RS is still the better road and certainly track bike but do love the look of it. A Cosmic yellow model be great. Additionally, I think sometimes there’s a pressure to get reviews out asap and you actually need more time with a bike to really understand how it ticks and to live with. Great review Dan totally agree. 👌🏼👍🏼😎

Yep, I also think mindset plays into it. If I'm stressed, I'm not having as much fun. I think dealer loans will really be a last resort, or I'll have to frame them in a very different way. As I need more time on a bike to understand it.
@ApexRadius2 ай бұрын
Dan, strangely enough, as I recall, the rider triangle is very close to the CBR. I believe the main difference is that the Daytona 660 has a closer and slightly lower bar placement. So, you might be rotated a little more forward and your legs are just a little less folded up. The Daytona is also narrower. I wonder if that's why the pegs feel a bit more relaxed.

Thanks for a great video. I felt the same way when i testrode it the first time. Felt it was ok but the second time i loved it. Not so much of the riding position its ok but far better on the Suzuki Gsx8r. But as you say the engine is so lovely. In this class its win over all other bikes with that torque from standing still uptil higher rpms. Thats the beauty of a triple and also the sound from the engine its amazing. I really love the Gsx8r but this engine and the looks of this bike is far better. For its price i do think a quickshifter and better suspension should be included from the start. Even the bluetooth module you have to pay extra for its silly. I hope they dont go up in cc because then always the prices of the bike and insurance rises. No you dont need more horses because of this lovely engine. I see now that Trident come with standard fitted quickshifter for 2025 so the Daytona have to follow that. I wait and see for the 2025 model to see the upgrades. Would be nice to see more color options as well. The red looks great but not the other. Dont like matt finishes like on the black version.

Hi there, I was wanting the CBR650R because I’m a Honda fan and their build quality and reliability is virtually unmatched. However they didn’t release the unrestricted power version in Australia so I went with the Triumph Daytona 660 instead . Reliability wise ; well Triumph supply the engines for all the Moto 2 class racing bikes in MotoGP . That’s a high pressure, high performance environment. If they are reliable enough for Moto 2 they’re probably going to be good enough for us mere mortals 😊

To me, this bike and the CBR650 are the class leaders within the "everyday" middleweight sport bike category. The R7 is such a weird combo of supersport ergos and street engine.
