Suggest is a factory brand. They just copy other designs and sell on aliexpress to make barely any margins. Suggess survives because the factory makes watches for other brands, not because they’re making money from their own brand.

I got mine 2 years ago, and its my daily beater and i put this little guys thru hell, this is my gym watch, i go running, cycling etc. As far as water resistance i dont sumerge it but i do shower with itbsometimes. It is a good watch and highly recommendable.

I have the same 1963 sapphire 38mm... looks amazing, keeps accurate time and the size is perfect for my wrist, I just upgraded the strap to a fine vintage style leather one, and voilá!!

I have a couple of these with various complications, my favorite has 4 complications, other wise known as the Moon Phase version. They are all wonderful chronograph watch’s, that for the cost are unbeatable! And just a really fun watch!

I've owned the 38mm for 2 years and it's a wonderful little piece, quite versatile on leather or NATO and keeps great time. This movement is used by Lorier, Baltic and Studio UnderDog so it's got some chops.

Small correction: the dial actually says “China Tianjing”, but you are right the authentic seagull one should say “China Tianjing watch factory”. I’ve got the Redstar version which says 中国制造(China Made).

I actually picked one up with the moonphase ST1908, since I already had a "more standard" panda 1963 ST901 with swan-neck regulation. It started an addiction of sorts - I now also have three other manual-wind chronos with that movement. Horology for a budget - actual horology. Of course long-term robustness will be a question, with a movement based on '50s/'60s technology but so far I had no issues whatsoever with any of my five Seagull chronos. Alternatively, to those reading this comment - I cannot recommend the Seiko NE88 enough. A high-beat mechanical, column-wheel & vertical clutch chronograph movement found in watches for 800 EUR (!) upwards. Many horology buffs already consider it superior to the Valjoux 7750 - no rotor noise, both a column wheel and vertical clutch system...so, to sum up, don't let anyone tell you that to get a mechanical chronograph, you have to put up with some 16mm thick, 2.000 EUR monstrosity. Or go for a modular chronograph that will quite possibly be a nightmare to service one day.

I have Japanese watch Knot with the ne88 movement and to boot Zaratsu finishing that GS use. At 1000$ makes it the best value for a chronograph. It is absolutely beautiful... high recommend checking it out. Hope to see more reviews on it! Personally politics will get in the way of my purchase from Chinese companies. Although almost difficult to avoid.

I bought one of these recently, it arrived about 10 days ago. I went with 38mm acrylic because I'm a sucker for "authenticity" - actually just wanted one that wore like the original. And it's a cracking little watch, everything people say about it is true. And no, it's not a knock off. The original 1400 were made, then the watch factory/collective started making other watches. The way it was in those days is there was a designed and a movement, and quite a few factories were commissioned to make them. After some years one factory got the have the name Sea-Gull (note the hyphen) and sell watches in the West. As I understand the story, a former employee moved to Hong Kong and got a license (or not) to use the ST19 movement and reproduce the original chrono. Now lots of different factories are making them and that must be OK as the original setup was of a communist collective. The are sold as SeaGull (no hyphen), so Sea-Gull's claim to exclusivity is a bit thin, except for the name. But this is China after all where Western ideas of copyright have little sway.

The Hong Kong-based factory/factories will make a watch that for all intents and purposes is identical and sell it at a much lower price. Sea-Gull as far as I can tell offer nothing better than SeaGull, and I cannot find any customer statements that show they have better customer service or guarantee. These are Chinese companies, the entire culture is different so for example the Omega vs Pagani Design distinction that is valid in the West just does not apply to or event exist between Sea-Gull and SeaGull

I have the Red Star 38mm version and it is a very charming watch. I wear it on the vintage tan leather strap that came with it. There is no other column wheel mechanical chronograph that competes price-wise. I think the dial is gorgeous. I paid $138 for this watch with a NATO and the leather strap. An insane bargain and the best deal of any mechanical chronograph. A truly lovely watch with a vintage Swiss-designed movement.

I bought the 38mm version with the swan-neck movement and a sapphire crystal. It is as accurate as a watch based on a Seiko NH-38 movement. When it comes time for a service, just pop-in a new movement for less than half the price of a new watch. With a few basic tools and a bit of courage, you can do the job yourself. Who needs a Rolex? It will impress some people, I guess. You can always sell it for what you paid (as long as you bought it used).

I paid a bit more for the actual Sea-Gull version, purchased from the Sea-Gull store and arriving in the proper branded box, but only because I won't buy fake/replica watches. So far so good, as it's similarly accurate to my Speedmaster Reduced, although the Speedy is almost 20 years old now, so it should. Still, it was a ridiculously small investment for a mechanical chrono, and one that I find particularly attractive in a classic, subdued way (although with gold markers, blue and red hands, plus a red start up top, I don't find it vanilla), and one I doubt I'll tire of quickly (especially the view through the caseback). I pulled it off the nato and put it on an olive green cloth/leather strap so I could enjoy the rear view more easily, plus snug it up against the wrist more, and find it an even greater pleasure. I bought one of these more out of curiosity than anything else. They are so cheap that the risk factor is negligible. To say I was impressed would be a huge understatement. I started to also notice it was very accurate so I took it to a local watch guy who put it on a timegrapher machine. It showed a +4 seconds per day gain rate and a beat error of 0.1ms with no appreciable positional variation. He was also impressed and said if he'd regulated the watch he'd have been more than happy with that result. I'm about to buy another. I'd say snap these up while you can because as their reputation gets around prices will go up.

I've one since it was released, and it works like a charm, I also have the other 1963 with the date, second at 6 and reserve complications, both are great and work fine. There are a few good AE brands, Tandorio, Steeldive, Suggess, ... but unfortunately also a lot of crappy ones.

I have two of these at the moment, both swan neck models and one to replace the other due to power reserve issues. Both fail to get anywhere near the 40 hours but they do operate well and look great. I'm going to keep the original purchase as the replacement appears to have a crown stem that's been cut too long leaving a gap between case and crown. Will have to wait and see with long term reliability.

basically, the calibre was reassembled and renamed in China basically it's a swiss movement from venus the 175 the founders of the newly founded Tianjin factory -they weren't even called seagull yet- went to Switzerland after a movement and venus sold them the blueprints the tooling they trained them and return to China and renamed the movement ST19......so basically, that movement was in Breitling watches in the 50s and 60s cost thousand of pounds......AND ITS THE ONLY COLUMN WHEEL chronograph on that price.......to much history that watch

Done a load of research on them because I wanted to get a genuine one. Turns out that the genuine "Sea-Gull" brands version of it are worse than the others that produce them with a case back that offers no view and an acrylic crystal. However from what I understand with China's copyrighting laws you can't really own the design allowing other companies to produce the same watch. The other brands that sell them produce the exact same watch buying the parts such as the movement from the genuine Sea-Gull brand and sell them cheaper using better materials such as sapphire glass while including a view at the back to see the movement. Good quality ones will usually sell them around £150 - £200. Some decent brands selling them seem to be Sugess, seagull 1963 and Redstar. Hope this helped : )

Its a nice replica, but its not a genuine Sea-Gull watch, sadly. Sea-Gull don't do transparent backs on their watches for the 1963 line - never have done, they're always engraved and highly polished casebacks. Any watch that is the genuine article will have a proper engraved back with the appropriate SeaGull branding. In addition, your 1963 is missing the 'China' marking which sits above the "Tianjin Watch Factory' marking on the main dial. Unfortunately there are far too many who produce these watches with these (glaring if you know) mistakes - it may have a genuine ST19 movement in it which are easy to get a hold of, but sadly, this isn't an authentic Sea-Gull - although it DOES look very nice. Most people really need to do their homework or have a line into someone who can source them direct from Tianjin.......if you're fortunate, you'll have both :D

Bought one of these out of curiosity and just because of the amount of hype and praise some KZbin watch experts give it. Pretty terrible tbh. A little tap and the hands move or stop. Pushers feel ultra cheap, Me counting is more accurate than the chronograph. Wasn't really expecting much tbh but it still felt like a complete waste of money. Looks nice though.

I bought one of these based on the many vids and reviews that I'd seen, despite reluctance to but a complex mechanical item of Chinese origin. Sadly upon arrival the Seagull 1963 confirmed everything I already suspected about Chinese manufacturing, and quality control. Broken.

Disappointing. I insta-bought the 38mm based on reviews on YT, and it will arrive in a month. I guess the lesson is, not to get too excited / fall for the hype.

@@threethrushes to be fair, they DID provide me with a UK address to return it to, and they did send a replacement (and paid postage) really fast. The replacement is great, works perfectly, and keeps time to about +8-10 seconds per day.

Hope the true seagull is ok. Absolutely avoid the Sugess: Poor or hazardous quality due to no quality control and no genuine guarantee or service after buying it.
