I’ve been training for 25 years. I have been doing shrugs the same way you do. People over the years have told me my form was wrong. Nice to see we’re right and they’re wrong. 👍

@@outdoor_-journey8603 I get a kettlebell with enough weight to let me do 12-15 reps. Sit on something low, put my shoe wearing foot toes into the gap and the resting foot under the training foot and curl my foot up and down, than change feet. This lower seating and legs extended, one on the other trains the lower parts, distal section of the tibs more, so you get a thickening towards the ankle. I also do sets sitting on something higher and again do the same thing, this time it hits more the proximal tib, higher areas of the muscle closer to the knees. If theres no kettlebells you can use an appropriate rubber bands, or cable machine with a good velcro strap to attach to front of foot, D-grip slips so, you may need a good velcro tape or even some good lifting straps might do.

Such a solid channel, so much incredible free info nowadays. I grew up in a time where I waited every month for muscular development, muscle and fitness or flex magazines to come out. I would buy them all and pour over every page hoping to glean some useful information out of them. We are lucky to have this kind of information at our fingertips..!!

As always you advice is spot on. I found out years ago that doing the basic proven movements are the best builders of muscle. Using the right amount of weight for you is the key. RDL's and bent over rows are the best back and leg builders.

Mike van Wkye has a solid shrug variation. Shrugs in the smith with a half rep at the bottom. As in do a regular shrug, let it down then pause for a split second then let down it again. Sort of letting the weight settle down further. He also prefers to lean forward a bit. My smith has an angle so being upright works better. I also throw in some rest pause rep match sets. First set as normal, then the two additional sets go to failure, rest and rep out until the reps in the first set is matched. This allows for multiple approaches to failure without using absurd weight.

Damn I changed my romanian deadlift for a rack pull like 2 months ago for that reason, I can lift more of course but a 100 kg romanian deadlift will do for better traps I hope. Thanks for the video.

I find that doing RDLs with a moderate weight of 100-120kg for reps is great for my traps/upper back. It really hits them hard and I have noticed that area of my physique has improved as I've increased my RDL weight.

Ive always had pretty good traps when i hit them directly but the BEST way personally Ive found is using the hammer strength plate loaded shoulder press. I basically lower the seat and stand on the seat facing the back rest then using the handles to shrug with the weight. its the ideal position as has my hands out to the sides away from my body but aligned perfectly with hitting my traps as I shrug the weight up as squeezes the traps inward and up, plus its in the perfect position, ie not behind my back or in front of my thighs, its directly to my sides with no bar getting in the way

I do a mixture of both strict shrugs at the end of my back/biceps day and heavy power shrugs on my shoulder/arm days. The weighted stretch seems to be what built the most trap mass for me which is why I think power shrugs are a cheat code!

I also need to mention. 99% of them are on juice. Find me a single natural lifter who has juicy pythons (mid traps) sticking out their clothes. I see a lot of skinny people with that unnatural look due to previous steroid use

I think we also have to consider the drug use. As to how it contributes to building muscle. If someone says they had smaller traps before but they also didn't use anything and then they changed their training style but also started using how do we know that it's the effect of exercise choice and not drug use? This is not a natty or not question, it's "is it a programing problem or something else?"

When training a muscle 1 x week on a PPL split is it better to have an A/B exercise selection for each muscle and rotate those every week hitting the same exercise every 2 weeks like in DC training or better to stick to the same exercises weekly then switch them a few mesocycles later?
@rossscarbro46025 ай бұрын
You’re overthinking it. Just lift hard and heavy and eat

It's a good idea. Honestly, if you're training 3x a week on PPL i think it's a better idea to just do full body 3x or U/L/U but if your schedule doesn't allow it, then your idea should suffice.

if you are a bodybuilder you can do additional trap works for bodybuilding gains. but if you're a casual lifter who is more focused in other places rather than gym, i think Barbell rows, deadlifts and heavy pulls even Rdls will make more than enough of your trap gains. Again it's just my opinion and experience.
