When editing I realised how long the back and sides were, I love the length but it really needs tidying up!

How do you deal with "not being in the mood" to watch a film? Especially a film you suspect will not entertain, but challenge?
@AngusDaviesDP

I'd usually just rewatch a favourite movie. There was a lot of Pixar, and fun comedies being watched. However I'd balance those periods out with 2-3 weeks of pure indie cinema haha

Watching 10 films in one day is definitely a way to fast track your dislike for watching films and it feeling like a chore. Similar to yourself, I only watch films when I WANT to watch films and that's okay because you don't ruin your love for film by forcing yourself to watch one.

It really is, eventually I cut down to just watching a film a day, whereas when I started it would be 2 or 3. My love for film never left, but even after two weeks, it already feels stronger than a month ago.

@@AngusDaviesDP talking about the subject of "10 films in one day" it's a very good way to do some marathons, for me somewhere in 2021, I think it was in October just before "No Time To Die" I watched all 007 movies in a week, it was a crazy ride and I don't see a problem at all doing that once again.

Interesting I got recommended this now. I just stopped watching a movie a day for almost three years (would’ve hit that mark sometime in August or September I think.) Ended it for the same reasons, i. e. I realized I was doing out of a sense of obligation rather than a pure fascination for movies. Complicating it a bit was that I also wrote a blurb every day about what I watched as well (which became increasingly complex by the end.) Still wondering if I made the right call, but I guess the deed is done.

I know how you feel about not wanting to talk about hating films and wanting to appreciate them instead. You can dislike a well-made film and still appreciate the artistry. You can like a poorly made film and still acknowledge its faults. I think people confuse liking a film with recognizing its qualities and achievements.

Interesting video, I did something similar in 2019 when I had cineworld unlimited and I made a fun new year's resolution to watch 50 films in the cinema by the end of the year and I did and I enjoyed it. I also rated each film and kept a record of those ratings to make sure at least most of the films I watched we're good and I wasn't going to the cinema just for the sake of it. And overall I think I enjoyed it more than your challenge, because I only had to watch about 1 film per week not everyday and at the time I had enough free time to do this. But unfortunately it encouraged me to make a similar resolution in 2020 (60 trips to the cinema by the end of the year) and this started off good but then lockdown happened lol

I read this book from David Gilmour called "Film Club". I've had the same feeling now watching your video as back then. Thank you!

i was there too in 2020-2021. i watched most films because i felt i had the need to watch them. and that was because my friend (roughly) told me i have bad taste in films just because i hadn't seen any nolan's film at that time. and i wanted to prove that i could also watch some plot-twist-mind-fucking films. i even watched some films i thought he wouldn't watch, like stanley kubrick's 2001 which i used 1.5x speed to watch that (I KNOOOWW I FELT BAD 😩 i'm gonna rewatch it sometime soon) and it felt shitty, to be honest. because i wasn't *really* enjoying the movies, i watched em because i needed to watch em. but i stopped doing that, i don't care about what he thinks about my taste in films anymore. i rewatched a lot of films last year and it just felt nice to *actually* watch something. love the video, by the way. also, i'm new here! so, nice to meet you :)

I would imagine having all that watch time under your belt would help with filmmaking in general.

Wow you look nothing like I imagined! And I know what you mean, I was like this in high school and I really feel out of the habit of watching any new movies cos I wasn’t spending that time making anything of my own. I’ve got a few scripts done I’d kill to make now and I’m very happy with :) Btw, I’ve been using AI art to visualize stuff from those scripts like how characters and scenes look, and idk if you’ve messed with those tools at all but I think a video on that topic would be cool as hell :D

Haha, I figured I'd get some comments like that! Yeah coming out of college I was just watching stuff all of the time, but I did also have a pretty full schedule and was still making my own movies. That's great though! I haven't, but I love that idea. I've been seeing so much surrounding ai these past few months, and I think it's time I really dove into it all.

People watch TV daily. Most people, actually. But intentionally overdosing is a good way to squash interest in anything.

So that's what you look like hah. Great vid, I've actually been considering trying to do a film a day for a stint but maybe only like for a month or two. I averaged 10 per month in 2022, which was good and I feel like I want to watch more, but only if it remains a matter of desire, not to serve the streak, much as you observed.

I'm now leaving my Scorsese,Tarantino,Nolan,Kubrick,Spielberg (and other today's masters) phase. Considering that I have seen many other films made by dozens of directors, I somehow feel that the urge to expand my view is not as strong as it used to be. I also don't want to get addicted to rewatching. My current goal is to start from the very beginning and introduce myself with the history of cinema. Any advice you could offer? Filmmaking and acting, cinema generally is not only a hobby but my way of life so I need a wise approach.

@@SeniorAdrian Yes! Thanks so much for the advice. I have already made one. I called 2 of my friends and told them: Let's go make a movie. I went out and shot black and white short film with my phone. Although it is only 5 minutes long and is purely improvised while making, I felt the raw power of filmmaking so I cant wait for this Saturday to make another.

Fucking Christ dude, I don’t know if you watched Spanish comedies. I thought that at least one was going to be in your “ the worst “ list. I don’t mean Almodóvar films, I mean shitty comedies. Hope you have a good image of Spanish film making tho.
