21:15 - SO MANY PEOPLE do not seem to get this. It was never a question of making up his mind: Victor feels sorry for and has begun to care about Emily, as a friend- but he loves and wants to marry Victoria. HOWEVER, she (Victoria) has now been married to someone else. Victor assumes, not unreasonably, that he has lost his chance. So now, with nothing left in the land of the living to go back for, he figures he might as well stay and at least try to make Emily happy, after all she has been through. -it is not about throwing over Victoria; that ship has sailed. He is attempting to extend a kindness. (And to his credit, having given his word, he is prepared to keep it, even if it means giving up an unexpected second chance to wed the girl of his dreams)

@@StoryMing i agree.. he agreed to stay bc he felt a heavy connection and empathy for Emily.. esp after hearing about Emily's tragic demise and that Victoria had already "married barkus". I think that heartbreak only strengthened his empathy for Emily as both having been "abandoned". Victor recognised Emily self-less soul as being genuine and lost in the underworld, and proven right when she wouldn't allow Victor to sacrifice himself for her. I've learned this is a story people either 'get' or just don't..

Noticable: the colours in "the dead world" and everything is very dark and without colours in "the living world" The living do not live and the dead are celebrating "life"

One thing that makes it even darker is that Emily says she was left for dead, she was buried when Victor found her meaning she didn´t die from the blow to the head she died from aspyxiation from being burried ALIVE..

By the end of the movie, he has spent no more than a day with either. And don’t get me wrong, Emily is amazing; but I think Victoria is seriously underrated. Just because she does not get as much screen time (-it’s not her story, after all). She is a very different person than Emily, of course, but from the glimpses we get, I would say she is just as incredible, in her own way.

@@StoryMing if you look at physically in the same room, then yes. But the only time he had to talk with Victoria was at the piano in the beginning, and when he tried to get back to her. I'm glad with the ending, I agree Victoria is the better choice. But he did get to know Emily better than Victoria.

@@lolalo6344 He spent much _LESS_ time with Victoria, yes; especially one-on-one (and even if you count just in the same room). My *point* is, though, he had not known Emily for long, either. Not nearly long enough for me to really buy into the argument that he got to know her SO very much better. - I think a lot of fans forget that the entire movie only takes place over the course of a single day, or possibly at most, a day-and-a-half.

This style of animation used to creep me out as a kid so I was always scared to watch it. Now I’m glad I can appreciate not only the creativity and effort but the story as well. Emily’s story was so tragic but beautiful as well. She never got to have what she wanted but her spirit was finally free.

Crazy thing about this film is the animation was so smooth that people accused Tim Burton of using computer animation. He didn’t, it’s all stop motion, but it just goes to show how good he is at it. Because of this, he held back on later stop motion films because he didn’t want to continue to be accused of “cutting corners” or “cheating.” I love this film! The 3 main characters aren’t villains, just a complex situation. Emily is lovely and deserved better. Victor and Victoria are very so sweet and deserve to be together. As for the afterlife; it’s said that if you have unfinished business, you end up in purgatory, neither heaven nor hell. But purgatory can be hellish. Stuck being confused and wondering where your loved ones are. Trying to get the attention of the living but it doesn’t always come across the way they think and it results in people being scared. If one believes in the paranormal, then I think argument would be purgatory is being stuck on earth as a spirit. Sometimes spirits don’t know they are dead and can’t pass over as a result. Other times they choose to stay because it’s where they want to be and some do repetitive things, like walking a hallway at exactly 11pm every night, and can’t interact with anyone. The last is known as a residual haunt while those who can interact are known as intelligent haunt. There’s also the theory of time slips and time plaines, which could explain residual haunts and being unable to interact. It’s a thing people believe 🤷‍♀️ No judging, just explaining.

So glad you watched this! I love this movie, and in my opinion, i think a lot of people don't understand that Victor not staying with Emily was the right choice. Emily did NOT need Victor to stay with her, she did not need another husband, what she needed was to be freed to finally rest in peace, if Victor stayed with her then she would've been stuck in the underworld for eternity, and her soul would've stayed in pain. Victor only wanted to unalive himself and marry Emily because he thought Victoria married someone else, not because he loved her. I think what Victor did for Emily was more pure and more of a loving act than staying and marrying her.

Also I'm Christian and i believe in Christ and in the bible it says we will be singing a lot and those in heaven will be worshipping the lord and Christ throwing their crowns/halos in the air rejoicing, and the floor will be pure gold so pure its clear and see through like a crystal, there will be colors we've never known and seen and beings of pure energy and light, and gods gonna be shooting lightening in the crowds and everyone will rejoice in excitement, (literally thats what it says in the bible and it sounds pretty rad) in every diff tongue and await for when everything's set right and the earth will be made new after the rapture and revelation and in the bible it says all souls even the ones in hell will be given a last chance to be saved plucked from the fire of hells to admit god is the true god and Christ died for us and accept him in their hearts before everyone who doesn't accept this is killed their souls permanently gone the 2nd death. Then angels and god himself will finally be able to come down to earth and live amongst us as he wanted with everyone who believes and loves and accepts him into their hearts. Where the lions will graze next to the ox and a child can stick their hands in a vipers den and it shall not bite, and we will all live together in peace and harmony the way we were supposed too.

The differnece between a pastor and a priest Priests are ordained by a Bishop in the name of the Pope. They oversee Catholic Churches and are seen as the only one who can coomunicate with god on your behalf, hence why you go to confession and then the priest tells you to do so an so many Hail Mary and Our Fathers as a "toll" for your sin to be forgiven. In this belief, he pretty much argues on your behalf to god that you have repented and thus are able to go to heaven. Pastors are Part of the Protestant Lutheran or evangelical Church. They are mainly spiriatual leaders, hold sermons, funerals and weddings, but unlike Priests, they are not a bridge to god. In the Protestanbt belief, everyone can speak to god for their own soul, thus the bridge is not needed. Priests have to be celibate, Pastors are allowed (and even encouraged) to marry and have a family (That last part is rather funny in an ironic sense.For a long time, the Pastors wife was pretty much a free employee of the Church, organising Events, leading churchchoirs or womens groups, helping out with odds and ends. Lately, as most Pastors wifes have their own Jobs, the protestant church actually struggles quite a lot with the fact that this free labor doesn't exist anymore. Now they actually have to _pay_ someone to do all that stuff, those poor buggers)

loved the reaction to this movie, this is one of my favorite movies... to your question most of my family believes that when you died having unfinished thing you reincarnate into a new life or reincarnate non the less but personally i don't firmly believe in 1 thing that could happen when you die but i just entertain every idea that could happen... i just don't like expecting anything and keep my mind open

Such a good movie my heart breaks for Emily 😢 I love the take on how the undead and after life is full of life and color and everyone seems happy, and the actual living is a dreary and melancholy place I believe in an Afterlife, I one thousand percent believe in God and Jesus, I know people my husband included who has seen a ghost when he was a child, I believe those are usually stuck here and haven't done anything wrong or good to gst into heaven or hell, they are just lost maybe who knows. Tim Burton has suchba unique perspective on the undead, especially in Beetlejuice i absolutely love that film

I personally just believe in heaven and hell, this movie was more on the catholic spectrum with the depiction of purgatory. For a recommendation, I would say Gone with the Wind 1939, just a great movie period and ironically referenced here.

Even their names suggest the fact that they are counterparts. Plus, Victor tells her that he wants to marry and be with her. *_He never once says anything like that to Emily._* He agrees to marry her because he is sorry for her, cares about her as a friend- and believes his chance with Victoria is gone- forever. Victoria is a very different person from Emily, of course, but that doesn’t mean she is not equally as amazing, in her own way. We may not have as much screen time to get to know her- it isn’t her story, after all- but anyone who would fight as hard as she did to try and help Victor, or get him some help, and who could stand up to Lord Barkis like that in informing him that there was no money, DOES NOT deserve to be criticized as bland or boring! And let’s not gloss over the fact that, after all, Emily does spend most of the movie holding Victor captive _against his will._ That is obsession, not love (-I don’t care if she DID give him his old dead dog as a wedding gift, it was still stalkerish behavior. She knew perfectly well he didn’t want to be there, and would have left if he found out he was free to go). Unquestionably, she deserves SO much more than she ever got, and it’s tragic that she never did; Emily would have done well with someone as lively and vivacious as herself, and I wish there were someone like that for her; but in the end, she is absolutely correct: she could never have found her true peace in someone else’s stolen happiness. _TEAM VICTORIA !_

I felt like we Victor and Emily had more chemistry they played piano together Emily was a bit more free spirited and out going. A nice compliment to Victors timid nature. Victoria was pretty bland and both their timidness annoyed me. But oh well Emily deserved better.

She sees him in all his clumsy nervousness, and yet thinks no worse of him for it, but quietly lights his candle. Victor tells Victoria that he wants to marry and be with her; he never once says the same to Emily. And it is the thought of _her_ which inspires him to say his vows so perfectly in the woods. -Victor and Victoria belong together. OF COURSE Emily deserved better! She would have done well with someone as lively and vivacious as herself, and I truly wish there were someone like that for her, but the fact that _she_ got a VERY raw deal in no way obligates _him._ It’s no one’s fault that Victor falls in love with Victoria, and not with Emily. At the end of the day, Emily is right: she could never have found her true peace in someone else’s stolen happiness. Also, we don’t spend as much screen time getting to know Victoria, because it’s not her story; but any bride who would make such a determined effort to help Victor, or get him help, and (especially) who can tell off Lord Barkis like that, about the money, IS NOT BLAND.

@@a.g.demada5263 If, instead of “it was a mistake, I would never marry you” he had only said something like, “But I didn’t even know you were there! I was practicing my vows- not saying them to you. That “other woman” is my _fiancee,_ and I was meant to be marrying her tomorrow” … I think that might have had the best chance of getting through to her- if anything would.

The 1st time I saw this movie in theaters I was disappointed in the songs compared to the ones from"Nightmare Before Christmas"(I got fond of them after listening to them more than once)but by the end of the movie I was crying. I'm so sorry for poor sweet Emily!🥺💙But I'm not disappointed that Victor&Victoria married each other..they're clearely in love.💞 10:37 - 10:44 That was a _ghost_ dog,Zero.🤍 11:04 - 11:05 🤣The piano scene between Victor&Emily is *SO AMAZING* BTW.😍😍 An after-life is still a LIFE so it makes no sense.Death is death,if there's something else after it,then it's not a real death.
