Fun Fact about the Rambo movies: Rambo doesn't kill any of the police officers in the first movie. There's only one on-screen death, a cop that accidentally falls out of a helicopter while trying to shoot Rambo. Which makes the sequels where he kills hundreds even more dissonant.

Freddy Got FIngered is like a total take-down, deconstruction, post-modernist art piece in a really weird way. When I saw one of the actors flip off the camera I knew it was all a big joke. I have mad respect for Tom Green for wasting $20 million of Fox's money to make a statement about terrible studio comedies. There is actually a lot to analyze there unlike literally every other film in this list, sans for the weird rape and child abuse stuff to pull from some of the grosser directors, but that's not really art focused.

I just came to say that Freddy Got Fingered is a masterpiece. A really weird cinematic achievement. If you go in realizing that it's a guy essentially saying, "You're gonna give ME money to make a movie?? Ok...Bad idea but let's go!", you'll realize that it's the most perfectly crafted troll/shitpost of all time. Every detail of that movie was a middle finger to the studio that funded it and to the whole movie industry at the time. And it's funny. It's incredibly offensive and shocking without being mean. At the end of the day, it's all pretty wholesome, silly humor. Except for the animal masturbation. And all the blow jobs.

I love how the different flavors of bad movies really represent the status of pop culture in each decade. The bad 80's movies were over-the-top, tasteless and had absolutely no morals or second thoughts behind their content or filmmaking. The bad 90's movies were relatively tame and could at least be called competent with a lot of effort coming through in the production. The bad 2000's movies were just a clusterfuck to the senses with what seemed like endless attempts to capture the most vulgar things ever witnessed by man. And then the bad 2010's movies were bland, flavorless, and made by people who didn't seem to give a half of a fuck of what they were making. Wonder how the rest of the 2020's will stack up

You briefly touched on it, but there is something deeper behind the scenes of Freddie Got Fingered. My theory is that Tom Green made that movie to intentionally waste the money of the Hollywood execs who were pumping money into gross-out comedies without any understanding of them or why they were popular. I can envisage him sitting in an office being offered a budget by some absolute corporate sleaze and thinking ‘man, you know what would be really funny? If I pissed all of this cash away in the most extravagant and insane way possible…’ There’s even the scenes in the movie where he spends his million dollars in extravagant and insane ways.

It's hard to know if it's really funny or good or not, but you just see it and it's so stupid and weirdly self-defeating that you're either going to get a kick out of it or you won't. It knows what movies are supposed to be like and it's actively deciding to NOT be that at every turn no matter how weird or fucked up it might be, lol. There's literally a line where the main guy is running through what he's spent money on to blow his fortune and it's obviously just him talking about the budget of the film. To this day, I completely believe the mindset was literally "Some idiot greenlit my movie? OKAY. Let's make sure to spend every single cent from the budget however we can just to make the most weirdly offensive thing possible!" and it KIND-OF WORKED.

Yeah, where's Matt Walsh's "What is a Woman?", where known probable pedo who wrestles men in diapers and says sussy crap about the age of consent Matt Walsh talks to a sociology professor about what a woman is, gets a lecture about the nuances of gender roles in society, INTENTIONALLY CUTS THE EXPLANATION WITH A TIMELAPSE, and then TRAVELS THE FUCK TO AFRICA to ask some random African tribe JUST so he can get the answer "Men are people with penises, women are people with vaginas". All of this is extremely blatantly purely so he can try to claim Trans Women aren't Women for the sake of bigotry. It's so weird and dishonest in how it's trying to take a kind-of interesting and nuanced idea of how we define sex and gender and just hammer at reality to make things fit the simplest elementary school definition possible. And even then, despite all the editing and trickery, Matt Walsh still comes across like a massive psycho who keeps bringing people into interviews under false pretenses and being told to leave when he inevitably acts like a Jackass to people just trying to explain basic gender theory to him, lol!

True story (though I may have misremembered details). When I was in 8th grade, I went to Canada for space camp. The tour guide on our charter bus was this really tall guy. He told us that because of his height he had been cast as an extra in Battlefield Earth (they wanted all the Psychlos to be like 6'5" and over + they wore heels). Movies tended to inspire trends. Saturday Night Fever brought disco to the mainstream. Indiana Jones inspired nerds everywhere to wear Stetson hats. Dirty Dancing made dirty dancing popular. Cocktail had the honor of inspiring bar owners everywhere to send their bartenders to classes so they could learn the whole "synchronized juggling of liquor bottles" gag to entertain the patrons. My aunt had to go to those classes and hated it because they had to stop everything they were doing to spend 5 minutes mixing one drink.

@@LifesNeverHumDrum I doubt that! Showgirls is a satire about certain aspects of American society, like the other Verhoeven movies: with Robocop he targets capitalism & consumer culture, Starship Troopers is about tendencies to militarism & fascism and with Showgirls he makes fun of America's dysfunctional & hypocritical relationship to nudity & exploitation of sexuality. 🙂 So it's not Verhoeven who doesn't get it - usually the other way around: Verhoeven makes a satire and the audience doesn't get it. ^^ The reason why Robocop & Starship Troopers were popular while Showgirls bombed: Robocop & Starship Troopers used violence to lure the audience, while Showgirls used nudity. And Americans love violence but condemn nudity. 😂🤣 But while Showgirls bombed in the cinemas it was a hit with DVD/Blu Ray sales, because everybody watched it at home - when he's alone... And here we are again at exactly that hypocrisy about sex Verhoeven pointed out with this movie. 😁😁😁😁

Honestly, It’s Pat DESERVED a Proper Razzie, Than Showgirls. “It’s pat” is just Pre-Woke Disney planning to make Strange Worlds. Showgirls is sexy and hilarious. So as Sia’s Music, Sia’s Music Deserved a Proper Razzie but got robbed by My Pillow Guy’s Absolute Proof (2020) what a crime against humanity My Pillow Guy’s Absolute Proof is not a movie Sia’s Music IS a movie but a forgettable dumpster fire disaster one and even more predictable, and more generic and insulting. Razzies sucks!

Well, back then, Showgirls did deserve it more because it was seen as so spectacularly bad that the other movies just couldn't compare. These days, since it is considered either "so bad, it's good" or "had potential, but is deeply flawed", I guess you can say that the other movies deserve it more. So, on a scale of 0 to 10 for how the other movies were robbed of winning a Razzie because of Showgirls, I'd say a 0 when it first came out and maybe a 7 or 8 after Showgirls has gained camp cult movie status and/or has been reappraised as a good movie with bad publicity.

Funny how the Razzies went from the sex scene in a pool everyone wanted to see (Color of Night, 1994) to the worst sex scene in a pool (Showgirls, 1995)

In High School, we had a turbo evangelical girl theology class, that pushed and lobbied for watching Kirk Cameron Movies disguised as "film study" and or teacher didn't catch on to it fast enough. I still feel emotionally scarred

It's kinda sad Pia Zadora is mostly known for shit like The Lonely Lady and Xanadu. Either her or her agent always tried to get her to be this heartthrob or show off her chops with dramatic roles, but they were always this or that movie where she fell in love with her dad or some deranged shit. I've seen her in intentionally comedic roles like (the also kinda bad) Voyage of the Rock Aliens and she's solid because her cheery and genuine yet air-headed delivery of silly stuff works. There's a scene of her doing a romantic, moonlit walk and it has a several minutes long bit of her explaining a zoning law battle between the town and the corporation eventually leading to the company being allowed to dump toxic waste in their swimming lake to her love interest like it's any other silly factoid about the town and it's really good. In another timeline, she'd probably be a rather fondly remembered comedic actor. ... I don't know why I said this when I don't think she's even mentioned as the lead in The Lonely Lady. I guess I just had this in the chamber on the off-chance a Pia Zadora film is mentioned. That's sad.

I had never seen her before and I didn’t research her career very much, but I could tell in The Lonely Lady that her talents were being wasted. That movie was so trashy and but she acted the hell out of it nonetheless Also it’s so sad that her Wikipedia photo is a screenshot from Santa Claus Conquers the Martians they really did her dirty with that

Fun fact:she also tried to start a singing career. Her hit song "When the Rain Begins to Fall" with Jermaine Jackson is hilariously cheesy.

@@SomeRPGFan Yeah, its music video plays as a complete non sequitur at the beginning of Voyage of the Rock Aliens, wherein it's implied the planet the video is happening on was destroyed in an apocalyptic race war (Voyage is weird like that)

I love Paul Verhoven and Tom Green were both good sports about their Razzies, as well as the fact that their movies in particular are very much more fondly looked back on.

Tom Green was on Conan after the Razzies showing his awards. And Conan kept taunting what are they for? For picture, for lead actor... but not saying the word worst. Shia LeBeouf said transformers 2 was bad because before it had a script, the writer's strike happened and they waited for that to be over and had to rush out a script because there was a unmoveable deadline to get the movie done by to make it into theaters for summer.
