Puss In Boots Movie Description:
Puss in Boots is a 2011 American computer-animated adventure comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is a spin-off of the Shrek film series and its fifth installment, rather than an adaptation of the fairytale "Puss in Boots". The film was directed by Chris Miller with a screenplay by Tom Wheeler from a story by Brian Lynch, Will Davies, and Wheeler, based on the character from Shrek 2 (2004) and inspired from the fairy tale by Giovanni Francesco Straparola. It stars Antonio Banderas (reprising his voice role as Puss in Boots), alongside Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Bob Thornton, and Amy Sedaris. The film follows the origin story of Puss in Boots (Banderas) on his adventures years before the events of Shrek 2. Accompanied by his friends, Humpty Dumpty (Galifianakis) and Kitty Softpaws (Hayek), Puss is pitted against Jack and Jill (Thornton and Sedaris), two murderous outlaws, for ownership of three legendary magical beans that lead to a great fortune of Golden Eggs from the Great Terror, a gigantic Goose.
Development began following the release of Shrek 2 in 2004. Originally titled Puss in Boots: The Story of an Ogre Killer, it was announced as a direct-to-video film to be released in 2008. In October 2006, the film was re-slated as a theatrical release due to market conditions and DreamWorks Animation's realization that the Puss character deserved more, with Shrek the Third (2007) director Miller joining the project as the director. Guillermo del Toro signed as an executive producer in September 2010. This was the first film from DreamWorks Animation to be partly made in India with a Bangalore studio owned by Technicolor, which had mainly worked on TV specials and DVD bonus material, spending six months animating three major scenes in the film.
Puss in Boots had its world premiere on October 16, 2011, aboard the Royal Caribbean International's cruise ship Allure of the Seas, docked in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the time, and was released in theaters on October 28, 2011 in 2D, Digital 3D and IMAX 3D formats. Puss in Boots received positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, grossing $555 million on a production budget of $130 million. At the 84th Academy Awards, the film was nominated for Best Animated Feature.
A television series spin-off from the film titled The Adventures of Puss in Boots premiered on Netflix in January 2015 and concluded in January 2018 after six seasons. A sequel set after the Shrek films, titled Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, was released on December 21, 2022.

A lot of reviewers are an @ss about this movie due to shrek fatigue causing them to regard it with heavy bias at the time, and that convinced a lot of people to skip it. Puss 2011 is legit 8/10 good, no not as good as the sequel... but very few animated films made in the last 20 years are.

@@anasevi9456 That's also probably why it took so long to get a second Puss in Boots movie. Dreamworks probably recognized that the film suffered unjustly because of that fatigue, and so decided it best to shelf the series for a while until people would be excited for a return. That said, I always liked the first Puss in Boots, even right when it came out. I don't think I would rank it above most of the Shrek films, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was.

Im glad you watched the first movie first. Everyone is watching The Last Wish without watching the original and while its not necessary its still a fun movie and has some context for the second one, and Last Wish has some fun callbacks that reactors dont notice because they didn't watch it, so its nice to see someone not ignore this movie.

Actually the first Puss in Boots is very important to watch if you plan to watch The Last Wish or the core Shrek’s because it tells us his story before meeting Shrek and Donkey and also how he met Kitty Softpaws.

For once i love this movie with the effect,Comedy,music,and adventure. But then the second one came out,and i started to love the sequel more than the first one. Dreamworks sure know how make number 2 an amazing number. Even though i watched the first one,and i remember their face and i really forgot how much feline their face in the first one. This movie is honestly underrated. Sure, its not nearly as good as Shrek 2 or even its own sequel but I'll be damned if its not a worthy addition to the Shrek universe. The humor is on point, the characters are fun and it made Puss feel like his own character rather than comic relief for the first time. Something the sequel would build on. Also, Kitty Softpaws is an amazing addition. She and Puss are literally perfect for each other lol

So apparently this is a prequel to the Shrek movies, but I believe it works better as a sequel. If it takes place before, then why after being declared a hero, would Puss be hanging at the villain pub at Far Far Away? What could really be the prequel idea is just the whole flashback taking place before. Puss is raised in San Ricardo, then he gets wanted after the bank fiasco. So he retreated to Far Far Away to get away from everything, embracing his new criminal record hanging at the Poison Apple, calling himself an Ogre slayer. Also, Humpty said that since their bank heist, it has been 7 years. Shrek 2 (2004) to PIB (2011) = 7 years! After Shrek Forever After, Puss decided that he had enough time away from home, and finally came back to make things right. *(BTW If there are answers in The Last Wish, don’t lash out, Haven’t seen it yet.)*
