They didn't really "sexy-fy" different body types, like I wanted to see, but malformed in an artistice way. I don't think I could wear infront of my boyfriend in the way they changed it. It was a "sexy brand" for the male gaze, now their portrayal is a femme revolution in some sort? Rejecting past ways of sexy-ness to uphear to what they think inclusive is. God, just give me a corset in my size ya know 😢

I think "they dress the models to look as ugly is possible" sounds harsh, but it’s very much justified when you see the outfits. Almost all of the curvy models have bras and accessories that don't fit them. If half of their breast is getting pushed out of the bra it's not the right size and in my opinion it just supports the view, that VS isn't for people with more curves. Good lingerie shouldn't cut into your flesh, but instead hug you, which a lot of these outfits aren’t accomplishing

I'm only referring to what they were forced to wear. The doc/show thing was weird and WHAT IS WITH THOSE BODY SUIT/SHIRT THING??? SO freaking weird. This was awful. But I do agree with what you said on Nightline, just have the plus size models wear the beautiful lingerie the thin models wore back in the day. Keep the over the top glam and sparkle and fun. Keep the beautiful wings and themed lingerie. And keep the musical act. LITERALLY JUST ADD MORE DIVERSITY IN YOUR MODELS. That's all they had to do.

I felt like the brand was saying "if you don't look like the previous models, then you don't actually get to deserve glitz and glamour". They just had to do what they've been doing before (the extravagant fantasy that we loved), but just include models of different sizes. Showcase that glamour on different bodies. This time around, it looked as if they were purposely "uglifying" the show? Like, what is this balenciaga-looking-aesthetic we're getting?

The "previous models" are still there wdym lol The aesthetic that's been the craze for a few years is gray's, blacks, more gray, cold, unisex and "gender neutral" so that's what they did to pander to the woke "theys them and zyr's." Now tears are being shed because they didn't use enough traditional feminine things like pinks, diamonds, glitter and more glitter lmaooo 🤪 Now because of the crying done initially by the wokes, no one gets nice things in the end. Side note, I find it funny no one wants inclusivity at Lane Bryant or Torrid.

@@Willowy13 I agree with you but if you watched the show, it was nothing more than a mockery of the whole concept. Some can even pull off a nice lacy piece of lingerie WITHOUT looking ridiculous or clownish. The new show is simply disgusting. The clothes are ugly, the vibe is trashy. Vs used to be elevated, magical, fantasy, all while having unique harmonious outfits. I don’t get why they couldn’t keep that while incorporating various body shapes. I literally never felt self conscious watching VS shows. I thought they were meant to be unrealistic fantasies. Sparkles, music, concerts, angel wings. I find it crazy that people actually thought this is what they were supposed to be like in real life. Yes, they lacked body shape diversity, but I knew they were models and models are a very specific type of body. It’s almost like they want to make the public disgusted of diversity so we revert back to how it was before. Plus size models deserve outfits as unique and stunning as the angels used to have.

Well thanks to the jealousy of some women we can’t have nice things anymore. I liked that it was a fantasy. I liked how exotic looking the models were, unlike anything you saw just walking around. But since some couldn’t learn to be happy for their fellow women (which honestly modeling is about one of the only things where it’s good if a woman is that tall… but they couldn’t even let them have that) and they made it so the models look like regular people and now the show it’s boring. @@SocialExperiment232It wasn't jealousy. People want representation and people want to see more than just one body type, VS doesn't need to remove their old slim models to do that. Ah right cause you couldn’t handle it that someone that didn’t look like you was being called pretty. No one ever said short thick women weren’t pretty. In fact thick women have been the “standard” many times in history, including the past 20 years where women have been pumping themselves with silicon trying to look thicker. They just don’t make as good a models because being tall and slim just wears clothes better. It’s a simple reality that seems to be sooo insulting to women. The fact that they put that much value into what a fashion ad said that they were willing to hurt themselves to attain it say’s more about women themselves then the industry overall. Probably a slightly unpopular opinion but I really think victorias secret was fine the way it was. Not everything needs to be for everyone. It sold a fantasy. All the women on the runway have that etherial look. They all looked like they could fit right in with the elves in lord of the rings or the amazon from wonderwoman. It's a very specific body type and thats fine as long as we recognise that it's not the only beautiful bodytype. What I think we needed to do is not cancel victorias secret but create other fashion shows and brands that show the beauty of different body types and leave VS be. For example Marilyn Monroe is seen as one of the most beautiful women who ever lived but she wouldn't fit in with victorias secret. In my opinion if you allow that kind of diversity it just isn't victorias secret anymore and takes away from the fantasy. I do however have to say that the alleged general toxicity of the brand would have needed to change. Also let the women have a healthy weight so they don't all lose their periods. I never understood why that kept being a thing. The models gaining some weight wouldn't take anything from their beauty and would actually enhance it in many cases.

The fact that they called Barbara Palvin and Gigi Hadid 'plus size' just because they were thin but not starving is disturbing. They were actively promoting eating disorders. They made a post partum Adriana Lima starve before the show. If they had healthy standards of fit bodies then I wholeheartedly would support them. No offence but runway models must be thin and tall and I say that as a short girl but VS was crossing the line.

How can people running these brands be so dense? The issue was DIVERSITY in HUMANS, not that feminine underwear is wrong and needs to be surrounded by unrelated headache inducing nonsense. Literally just make the same shit you always have but make it for everyone (especially the 2/3 of the population that’s been neglected by the entire industry). By changing everything so drastically all at once, you’re still excluding all of those other demographics from the classic angel aesthetic (in favor of more edgy fashions that have *nothing* to do with VS) which is what everyone wanted in the first place. It’s like if all of your siblings get a birthday cake, but when it’s finally your birthday and your turn to get one, everyone is over cake and decides you should all go out for coffee instead… and then are left wondering why you still feel excluded. When are people going to realize how ridiculously simple yet radical basic inclusivity is. Make underwear that actually fits a bigger range of bodies. Show those bodies wearing the underwear. Boom. Someone is getting paid way too much to spin all the wheels in every direction except the one people actually want.

Their “solution” was to remove the whole foundation of their company and branding(which is the feminine, angel vibe), and basically attempt to remove the whole entire idea of an ideal body type. By doing that+changing the aesthetic of their company, it seems as though VS is implying that they do not want to admit that any body type can feel sexy, rather saying that if you want diversity, I’ll do it *buttt* I’m not going to allow for the same Angel aesthetic because I still believe that it is unachievable by anyone other than that 1% who have the curvy and skinny figure.

I used to come into VS stores and it felt like luxury. The stores were beautiful. Products were beautiful. And even as a plus size girl I felt like I was able to find my size. I still have an old bra from them that I refuse to throw out. It's in my closet and it feels like some lost piece of treasure of what uses to be the old VS. It made me feel sexy and like I honestly had a secret. I grew up from using La Senza to Victoria Secret and it was almost like transitioning from teenagehood into womanhood. It felt grown up and sophisticated. But this...rebranding is just sad. It's almost like a little bratty kid saying, "oh you want me to do this when I wanna do this?! You wanna discipline me??! Well HERE! This is what you get. YOU did this!" It's insulting because it's almost like they're saying including other types of body shapes is somehow a crime and they're disgusted so they'll do their best to sabotage the entire brand and what they sold by making those who don't fit into their inital mode look and feel ugly. The new items are simply unflattering and it's far far from what the clothes used to look like. Where are the sparkles, the sexy lace? Does no one deserve to look and feel good except for the 6ft tall blonde ladies? If they refuse to get with the times then we won't get with them. I have a four year old daughter and I want her to grow up feeling amazing in her own skin and not feel like she's excluded. If this is what VS thinks being inclusive is then I don't want it. I never expect the models to look like me and that’s because it was the “fantasy” of it all. The outfits didn’t represent what we all thought it was going to represent, there was no bts of them going in hair and makeup, no clips of them getting their wings, no themes, no clips of them talking about what it’s like to be a VS angel, etc. It was a joke of a fashion show, and they should’ve stuck with the original script

Just wanted to share; as someone who has battled insecurities and had a - modest - modeling career, to anyone who's ever been a victim of hate / violence because of their appearance, gender, orientation, race: DO NOT ever let a hateful notion 'there's something wrong with me' sink in. Trust me, it's a recipe for self hatred. When we suffer and we need a break, it's only natural to think: maybe if I wasn't 'different', if I was 'normal' I would be accepted. No, haters will always find something else to prey upon. I've always had kinda androgynous look, which was a fuel for bullies when I was growing up. I embraced it, used it to my advantage in my acting / modeling career, I was almost the face of Leon in these new Resident Evil games :) Beware of extremely toxic people around you who can see your potential and value but will drag you down with intent and hideus determination, when they notice a slightest sign of insecurity.

The problem with the old Victoria's Secret was that because only one, extreme body type was represented, the majority of women were the wrong size for how the products were presented. All VS had to do to fix this was to show their products on women of different shapes and sizes, and to make the products look good on different body types. How do you mess up something so straightforward?

I agree. I myself struggled a long time with eating disorder and thought only my xxs size was worthy. I remember once I was shopping with a friend and wanted to try a dress and the saleswoman looked at me and said "Hun those clothes are for people with curves not bones and skin like VS cocaine chic models" I've got even more insecure with my body. I think they only needed to add women of all kind of body shapes and show people that they too can wear it. Every woman wants to feel sexy and wear lingerie that fits them. Clothes should fit your body and not the way around. That's the message they've missed by doing this weird show. And also it's not the models fault, they literally just wear what they tell em to wear😅
@Willowy13

They didn't have to change one feet. And I am obese. They were a fantasy and shouldn't have to "represent" everyone outside of what they defined as the body type they needed. Where does the representation end? Should they have lingerie for a women that needs 3 seats on a plane? You want a VS? Have a body for it? It is not like there aren't other brands out there doing quality lingerie for a broader audience. The problem here is that VS needed to be taken down for being "problematic" according to 2 y old having temper tantrums for "representation" on X. Here the brand is.

I’m older so even though I also grew up with Victoria’s Secret (especially during high school years) I did not grow up with the 2000s Victoria’s Secret fashion show/ pink collection etc. I grew up with the 90s catalogue. Models were more curvy, and it felt different. (More curvy but NOT representative of the average body type, don’t get me wrong). Like the pictures suggested if you buy their products, those products will help you look like the model. Help you take what you have and display them in a pretty way? Not that you had to ALREADY look like the model to wear their products? (This is when the first wonder bra came out). And the clothes were classic basics. The underwear had lots of jewel tones, sateen and lace. The outerwear was always shot in gardens or near horses on some grand estate. It was all very French feeling (or what Americans envisioned France to be like). Like a weekend at some fancy country house. Like TS’s blank space MV. THAT was the exclusivity. And the catalogue wasn’t about showing a “brand concept” other then the location of the shoots. It was actual products actually for sale. It was more direct. You just loved the bras. But then came the 2000s and it changed. I honestly didn’t like it then. Models were way too thin, everything super tight, super small, super low waist. Bright cartoon colors, glitter, and rhinestones. It looked cheap to me. I think the style should be aspirational (especially for a clothing brand), not the bodies. And the show was a try hard. An “event”. More about the vibes then most of the clothes. Because after the show nobody talked much about the clothes (except the big stand-out, end-of-show, elaborate pieces. In the catalog days those would be in the holiday special.) They talked about the performances, the models, even the wings. But so few people said “wow, the new collection looks so cool!” It was more “wow, that show was so cool!”. I stopped shopping there around 2005? So I honestly don’t get it when people yearn for those times as the “good old days” and put it on a pedestal of high fashion. It seems to be mostly women who were girls/ teens during that time. So I think it’s more nostalgia for childhood. The whole era has a manufactured barbie doll feel to it (to me). This new show? I appreciate what they were trying to do but…..Even MORE “concept” and “vibes”. Even less clothes. And the clothes fit TERRIBLY. Nobody would see that and think “they will help me and my body look it’s best!”. They honest to god turned having a slightly bigger body into an abstract CONCEPT that could only be tackled by visionary quirky artists. Not just en everyday normal reality for most women. 🤦‍♀️ What on earth was so wrong with pretty clothes in a pretty place will make you feel pretty? It’s what their empire was built on. Making women feel special. I honest to god think they need to stop trying to big picture themselves to death, and go back to basics. Fix their problems at the root. Then build up from there. Obviously just my opinion and taste is subjective, so just my two cents 🤷‍♀️😂

I feel like brands don’t really understand what inclusivity is. It’s not about changing the game completely but letting everyone part take in the game. If you truly feel the need to change the game completely because that seems like the only way to have everyone take part it just shows you still cannot imagine everyone taking part in the original. Hence it shows how exclusive you still are.

This looks dreadful. I loved the original VSFS when I was younger and I hate this new direction. The original fashion show was never supposed to be “realistic”. It was a big beautiful spectacle/fantasy and that's what made it iconic. Everyone keeps asking “Where's the glamour?” “we want the glamour” but what people don't realize, or aren't willing to admit, is that a lot of that glamour you remember came from being exclusive and largely unobtainable. Those girls were conventionally beautiful in a way that most average people aren't and had great bodies that most average people don't have. You guys want to make everything “inclusive” and “progressive”, which sounds good on paper, but there's nothing glamorous or interesting about everyday, normal people and things. The literal definition of glamorous is exotic, exciting, sexy etc. Also, for the record, I have a curvier body type but I'm 5’1. Im not a 5’10 glamazon and I never felt like I had to be. I can appreciate beauty that doesn't look like me and not feel inadequate. This is just not it.

I always use to love watching the OLD shows and imagined myself doing it one day. Body positivity doesn't have to be over weight and bodies that aren't properly flattered in the clothes... I don't care for the tiny, boney models only because i feel bad and have an idea of what they have to go through to keep their bodies that small. Ya they're beautiful but it isn't healthy and I don't think we gotta go to the opposite extreme. What about just a little bit of chub or some stretch marks, small and big chests, natural curly/flat/afro hair. Putting people on there who ar bigger is a good thought but even just looking at the the thumb nail I can say a lot of these models were placed in clothes that dont look flattering on their bodies. I wasn't even aware they started up the shows again until just now when I saw this video. It seems like it just lost the VS style and flair. I thought it was Awesome wjen they started making bigger clothes and I saw models/statues that matched my body. Im only 120lbs but still I'm not the idealistic tiny flat stomach girls they use to show. Just to clarify I have no issues with plus sized bodies, I just think the girls need to be put in flatering sexy outfits that don't look like they're being squished into.

I actually really like the new looks from what I’ve seen so far. It simply looks like VS is dipping its toes in avant garde, and I adore it very much! On all of the models of all the different sizes:) I’m a plus size girly, and I didn’t see anything wrong with the way they dressed the plus size and/or curvy girls otherwise. Granted, I didn’t see the actual show - only the clips from this video (currently at 13:33). On the other hand, I do understand that avant garde is not everyone’s thing. Maybe it’s just my optimism, but perhaps it was merely an effort to bring avant garde to a more commercial stage and inspire the average consumer to think beyond the norm. 💗

Some of the wings were interesting, and some looked cheap. I don't like that the video had such low lighting- I don't mind it for certain parts, to add artistic flair, but I want to see the collection I'm potentially buying. Which leads to my last point: What is VS selling now? Based on the clips in this video, are they rebranding as a clothing store? I neither saw lingerie nor pyjamas featured/highlighted in the clips. Ive always been super curvy. That being said VS bras and lingerie are the only ones that have ever fit my body well. I appreciated being fitted for my first real bra because i jad no idea what size i was or what i needed. All of the clerks in the store have always been women so i actually felt really comfortable there. A CEO is not a company, and VS has changed CEOs a few timea now. Fact is that from the models and designers, to the retail associates, VS provides employment to many thousands of women. I wish the brand would just stop trying to be somethings it us not.

I watched it on Prime and it was just about the designers. Nothing to do with the models. What was with the bland colors and dim lights? I could barely see anything.

I too think the show was quite odd, but what i find more curious is how so many people are upset with the new VS not being like they used to..lol people literally asked for them to have supermodels that dont look or “model” like models.. instead that they look like well.. us ordinary beings People should understand that what they are asking for is representations of diversity(cultural, color, shape, size etc and its a HUGE YES) while understanding that models are not meant to look like ordinary people..

the way they wouldve been so successful if they wouldve done the same thing they used to do but with diverse models. bring back the early 2000s PINK nostalgia but for all sizes that wanna wear it.

😂😂 it's hilarious to see all these reactions to the VS show. It's obvious to the rest of the world that the US has stripped their real women of their femininity and womanhood by the use of politics and agenda. Keep fashion as fashion should be. Sure it can used to express oneself and make a statement but what exactly is the statement here? Everyone is a woman when they feel like it? Obesity is sexy? Hard work and discipline is not cool anymore? ..... The rest of the world is chilling at their fashion shows making real glamour and glitz ..... It's literally just the US going off the tangent right now. We all celebrate inclusivity but you really think high fashion and couture shows are for inclusivity? It's meant to be exclusive. It's meant to be high society entertainment. It's supposed to be aspiring ..... what will you aspire to be in these current shows? Yourself at your current state where you're not happy as is?

I used to LOVE this show. Not anymore. It was fantasy. I was very thin in my 20s and 30s, and loved seeing the beautiful thin models in the shows and ads. I'm not thin anymore, but I still believe that VS is a brand and now it is lost. This comment will be very unpopular, but I don't care. I'm GEN X, and I firmly believe that the models of the old VS earned the right to walk in the shows. They worked very hard to be low in body fat and to be toned. That should not have been taken away from them. They are not the enemy. If larger women want inclusivity, then develop a company that caters to it. Don't guilt an existing company into changing EVERYTHING that built their brand in the first place.

Geez, people hated old fashion show with angels so much because of “insecurities” and now the same people complain about how the new show killed the old vibe, angels, fantasies, etc. I’m sorry, but I don’t get it. What do you want from VS?

I’m sorry but if we compare Victoria’s Secret angels and actual high fashion models, people worrying about body size diversity and model’s eds are going after the wrong people because VS models are very fit yes, but not extremely skinny to an anorexia type of extreme. One of the way you can see it is the way a lot of angels were still having kids in between shows each years and for those who don’t know, anorexia makes it almost impossible to give birth. So I think people were just insecure and tried to ruin the brand.

VS models were called angles for a reason, they looked otherworldly, unobtainably beautiful etc. Sure, make the angels inclusive, but at least give them something that fits, and flatters their bodies.

ok I think in hindsight they should've never cancelled the 2019 show. it just started this VS is cancelled narrative and forced them to come back with a 180 on brand identity. they should've just progressively, slowly, updated facets of the the brand and made it seem like a natural evolution. 2019 show should've introduced a new creative director (A female) distancing from the old predatory team that had been accused of some weird things. Then have a 2019 show with artists from around the world like dip into KPOP, Afrobeats, Brazilian funk and use designers from these regions as well. with models from those regions opening those sections. I think the idea of it being more inclusive is stupid, their exclusivity made them them. unpopular opinion but the beauty of todays landscape is u can CHOOSE. u can choose the brands you want to follow, choose ur IT girl from the thousands on instagram, choose the many lingerie brands out now. VS had a unique identity that just neededt to evolve, there was absolutely no need for the pause and resurgence. They were the exclusive unattaible brand, OH WELL. go to Skims if u want clothes that fit all, and frankly, better in generall .VS lingerie has never fit a lot of sizes well no one was buying for the product we was all buying for the brand. them loosing the brand is making them loose everything

I feel like this is controversial But they are supposed to be angels, and honestly angels aren't humans like us, which means that it kind of makes sense for them to be this unteachable ideal Also not everyone can be a model, just like not everyone can be a doctor or an olympic athlete

I didn't mind the way it was before, with the skinny and tall models (of course, completely against extreme dieting and the way the models were treated). It made it seem exclusive. I don't fit the look of a VS angel, but that never annoyed me nor did it make me feel insecure. I loved seeing ethereal women like Adriana, Candace, Miranda, etc. They all worked hard to be model, that's why not everyone could be an angel. It was what made angels special.

Outsider's perspective, but fashion shows are a concept showcase for a given label. Just like how food will never look as good as the picture on the menu, the clothing items will never look as good as the ones worn on the runway. In an attempt to appeal to every size and shape, fashion brands are overextending and becoming shapeless.

They could have gone with their old glamour formula just with more diverse models. There's no reason why they couldn't glam up a model above a size 8. But they decided to go with some edgy artsy angle. We should judge them for the aesthetic they chose, not judge them for using different models.

why does everyone feel the need to have everything be inclusive? the og angels never said you had to look like them. It's your choice to feel inferior to them because you don't look exactly like them. It's all about your mindset if you have low self esteem why should we shame the models and company? and why should we have to sacrifice a fun fantasy with pretty women you can look up to and aspire to be like. the whole idea of promoting obesity is so unhealthy. promote HEALTHY BODIES not annorexic and not obese.

Don’t blame Victoria’s Secret I blame you all. You guys were talking about how small the shows were and how they only catered to a certain amount of people we had lots of people on there. In my opinion y’all were just being oversensitive with your “me me me”mindset. There was multiple people like vitiligo people mixed raced and dark women women of colour women with skin conditions women with things like albinism et cetera but you guys just wanted something to hate on something to push the body positivity movement now they’ve Rebranded themselves to fit everyone and everything and you want it to bring back the”it“ factor at once had well it can because once it does you guys will shit on it again calling it fat phobic and misogynistic pointing fingers at everyone else but yourself make it make sense.
