Hey all! We are BACK in the swing of things! Stephanie is hysterical in this reaction, because of her love of Tatiana's scream, not to mention her singing voice. Make sure y'all leave a like and also HEY subscribe while you're at it!
Jinjer, a Ukrainian metal band known for their genre-blending sound, delivers a powerful statement with their track "Teacher, Teacher!" from the Micro EP. The song dives into themes of societal norms, rebellion, and challenging authority, particularly within the educational system. With Tatiana Shmayluk’s dynamic vocal range, from fierce growls to melodic singing, and the band’s tight instrumentation, "Teacher, Teacher!" critiques the rigid structures that often suppress individuality and creativity. The intense energy of the track, combined with its thought-provoking lyrics, makes it a standout for fans of progressive and metalcore music.

This song and music video was my introduction to Jinjer about 5 years ago. Teacher, Teacher! remains my favorite Jinjer song. It is from their early 2019 EP Micro. Later in 2019, they released a full album called Macro. If they had released Micro and Macro as a single hour long full album, it would be in my top 10 metal albums of all time. To me, Tatiana is the best and most versatile vocalist in metal, male or female. I saw them live last year when they headlined at a small beer garden venue and I arrived early enough (on a hot as hell summer Texas day) to be on the rail. I will be seeing them live again in a couple of weeks where one of the two opening bands will be the very fun Japanese metalcore band Hanabie. The first show of the tour is tomorrow night in New Jersey.

Every Jinjer song is very different composition wise. You won't get bored going through their discography.

Jinjer has their own sound that is quite unique to them. Disjointedness is part of their progressive metal style.

My first song was Pisces, it was through a colleague of mine who gave it to me to listen to, I fell in love with this band that I had never heard of. Tatiana is insane.

I think there's a bit of an effect on the cleans in the beginning, sort of a megaphone filter. About 50/50 Jinjer songs have some kind of semi-traditional structure vs just being completely freeform. The guys compose the music first, then Tati gets demos and comes up with concepts for titles and lyrics, then weaves her vocal performance into the music. Pisces was first for me. Ironically YT had been knocking on my door suggesting it practically since it came out but nothing about "Jinjer"+"Pisces"+that thumbnail suggested something that I wanted to hear. And while I may not be as much of a indie elitist as some the more YT recommended it, the more I figured it was something mass-market with a big marketing budget and lots of studio control behind it. Then I got a suggestion to watch an vocal coach react to Disturbed's Sound of Silence which sounded like a good time, and the next suggestion was a Pisces reaction. I'd heard men and women growl before, so I wasn't shocked that she could do it, just that I enjoyed listening to it because previously I hadn't like that. I dug into their catalog and I'd switched parties in 2015-2016 so Who Is Gonna Be The One really spoke to me, and Sit Stay Roll Over sounded antifascist af, and researching it Tati confirmed that so I was totally on board. Ape had just come out but this was December of 2018 so Perennial and Teacher Teacher were still on the horizon which gave me time to dig into their catalog before they were dropped. Perennial was an instant favorite for me. Teacher Teacher took a while to grow on me mostly because it was such an overt homage to Another Brick In The Wall but it's one of the most popular songs among the Jinjer fandom.

As for me Pisces is not even in a top-10 best Jinjer songs. I heard it first consciously. I was surprised as most of listeners. Rather not because of the female harsh vocal by itself (I heard it before and I was never into it) but because of the contrast. I used to think that it's impossible to achive a 50/50 mixture of soft, melodic, jazzy sound and very heavy, extreme, almost death metal sound. I was surprised and interested by Pisces but not sold yet. Teacher Teacher was the song which instantly grab my attention. Perennial didn't vibe with me enough. But after Who's Gonna Be The One (live) I was sold. This two songs changed my perception of extreme vocal and of music which uses that kind of vocal techinniques. I've got it finally. Later I discovered that Jinjer has dozens of bangers, and many of them are more preferable to me than Pisces. But Teacher Teacher is still in my top-3/top-5 list, depending on the current mood.

What do you mean by a lack of flow? This is considered one of their very best songs for its melody and flow.

You willing to pop off some misfits for Halloween? Way back you’d mentioned their introduction was off camera, but I can’t imagine you’ve reviewed the whole catalog? Maybe Astro Zombies or Horror Business from the Danzig days.Alternatively Descending Angles or Dead Kings Rise or Scream with the new lineup (“new”) Also did you ever get around to Violent Femmes? I’ve been trying to keep up but my feed gets a bit clogged and the iOS app doesn’t have a great search function. Anyway, cheers! I’m glad yall still popping off videos. I enjoy your authenticity

Man thank you!! My 40 year friendship with my best friend has resulted in ME personally hearing probably every song released by The Misfits... BUT Stephanie... that's a different story. Should we get involved in a Halloween theme? Could be cool!!
