I understand the relaxed look on your boss’s face. I enjoyed my job and stayed over 40 years, but when I retired the the stress relief was more than I could have imagined. I wish him a long and relaxed life.
@InsideOfMyOwnMind4 жыл бұрын
You raised a question though. Did you have an adjustment period where the first few months didn't quite seem real, and were you kind of lost for awhile?
@graybeard734 жыл бұрын
Most of my work life I never allowed myself to think about retirement and focused on my work. I did plan financially, but never thought about using it; just wanted my wife to be comfortable. At 41.5 years I decided to retire in a year, at 42.5 years. I worked the last year to be sure I was really ready. I finally reached a point that the stress and demands were no longer a fun challenge, just work. I recommend that anyone planning to retire have some volunteer work they can do. Helping others provides a sense of fulfillment and hobbies loose some of their appeal when you can do them as much as you want, as long as you want. I have had friend get board with retirement, but between church activities, volunteering at food bank, my grandchildren, and my Jeep, I’ve had no problem missing work in the 7 years since I retired.

Since he's retired and has nothing to do, bring an extra camper trailer out to Busco Beach and bring him along to the next Mini Mahem! Even if he didn't participate much, I'm sure he'd have a blast helping everyone out with their karts in the pits. Keep the old man busy! Invite him out to the new property!

3 minutes in, and I wish I had an old guy to work with again. Side by side with an owner of his own business. Learning the smallest of trade secrets from someone who history has all but forgotten. Much love to the small one man/family businesses! I worked with an 82+ year old man setting headstones in cemeteries for 4 years and a 60+ year old in welding and repair. They has shops across the street from one another and every morning began with yelling crude shit back and forth. And fighting over who gets my $10/hour labor. Great times! Sorry for the life story but this video brought up some great memories!

I was getting nostalgic and a bit sad watching you on your bosses last day. In 78 I was working full time as a year round mechanic at a golf course. I, grinded reels, maintained tractors, chainsaws, greens mowers, Jacobsen tri-plex's, Jacobson F10 fairway tractor, 75 Harley and EZgo golf carts, 2 Ford tractors, a 1963 Ford dump truck, I cut fairways, and roughs, and Greens, and Tee's and aprons every single day. I raked sand traps..was a ditch digger, sprinkler installer, Olympic sized pool maintenance man, painter... I worked on everything. They worked me hard !!...Anyway"s !!...in 81, I gave my notice and went to work as an auto mechanic at an old garage. . My boss was an older man in his late 70.s He and his brothers had built the garage before WW2...then they all joined up...came back and he re-opened the garage. They both were over retirement age...and I was in my early 20's. Young, Dumb, and full of....I became a master auto tech. Worked at dealerships...(biggest mistake of my life) Small garages for 35 years. But I always get a smile when I think about the 6 years I worked with the 2 old men in that old New England auto shop. We even had an antique coke machine, and paid only 10 cents for a Coke ! ( the old man took the loss) Well. They both died in the late 80's..So long ago, and I still miss that old place. Good memories. You'll never forget that place Isaac ! peace.

Man thats awesome. You made his day, showing up for his last day open. A day he will never forget. I am sure you wont either. You should work a deal and buy the place from him. There is so much potential for that place. You could start your own channel just doing videos on car repairs. Showing people how to fix their own vehicles. Heck, this could be the In town cars and cameras garage, and Johns new place could be the official test track.
