I am completely comforted knowing that since things are already stable, secure…finished….my changes can be done at my pace and when I’m ready…and I can do them without any pressures…..so don’t be sidelined by something more finished than you’d like if you like it otherwise……there are always things to be done and things take time.

Hi Roseanne, really enjoyed this video - thank you so much! We share the same dream of a calm life in Sweden even though we are in completely different parts of our journey in life (I am a self employed mama of four boys, living in the middle of crazy Berlin). Do you know the German YT-Channel "Endlich Selbstversorger" by Claudia Weber? She lives really far out in Sweden (no running water, no electricity. She has chickens, goats and grows a lot of vegetables) I don't think that the road to her house is cleaned from the snow in winter, too. But she has something like a. "small tractor" which seems to be a very typical Swedish thing!? Thank you so much for sharing your experience and good luck 💕

With 200k up here in northern sweden you can get a castle for those money😂,but you only have 4 months of growing, dont look for cabins they are not isolated so good..,and isolate a cabin can cost as much as the cabin itself..look for a smaller house instead..a torp as we call it here in sweden..most of the so called Torp in sweden have own water wells an are already suited for the winter
@wildrosie2 жыл бұрын
I think I ended up in a torp! I never really found anything that cheap though, even up north. I think the prices have been going up this past year, or perhaps my requirements just didn't suit those cheaper properties...
@MonkeyBusinessMan2 жыл бұрын
Prices have gone up in the north for two reasons: The pandemic, people are working from home anyway so many realised they can live somewhere else rather than in the cities. And there’s also a trend to get into nature. And the other major reason is the ”wonder in the north”. There’s major investments in the north of Sweden by major battery factories and other modern tech companies and they’re gonna need to hire loads of people. And of course they’re gonna need places to live. So that’s driving prices as well. Most of that will be in the northern cities though or in areas near where those factories will be situated. The northern parts of Sweden are massive though so don’t worry too much about it. It’s not gonna be crowded😀 And I have to say, I think there are very cheap cabins elsewhere in Sweden too if you look really far away from the cities. So it might help if you widen your search to at least central Sweden as well. Anyway, good luck to you and to anyone else looking to move to Sweden. I know I’m biased cos I’m swedish, but it’s pretty amazing 😀 🇸🇪

I think you really need a car unless you live like max 10km from nearest village with a store, just thinking how you are gonna remodel with all the stuff you need to buy and haul is enough to say that. Also indoor water, not sure you want that bc thats gonna freeze in winter and explode, and electric heating is needed to avoid that, and that heating option is extremely expensive. A well is safe and free. I myself had to realise I had to get a drivers license and a car to do this

I moved to Sweden 8.5 yrs ago, living in the middle between Oslo & Stockholm, 25km away from the nearest Small town. I don’t think you are being realistic. How will you manage living remote without a car? How will you make money? Don’t underestimate the cold and the long winters (it is freezing for at least 4 months here)? Growing your own vegetables is not enough to survive on, the vegetable growing season is only 4 months here.

I started this house hunt knowing all those things and decided I would just stay really flexible - if I didn't manage to get the house ready for winter or I didn't have any work, I'd just have to go back to London for the winter months and come back when the temperatures rise in spring / summer. Until everything would be ready for full time living. But so far all has been good - it's been cold but it's been okay, I've got some freelance work which I do from home and I'm 12 km from the nearest town - I can walk or cycle. I'm curious to see what will happen in the coming months, but I see this as a long term project, so whatever happens is okay

I really think you need to visit these places in winter. Im not saying this cannot be done. It can very well be done. You can survive anything, but to live, not only survive. Im not sure if you are ready at this point. Winter in an uninsulated summer cottage in northern sweden without a vehicle to transport building materials, plow or move yourself in an emergency... Its not Instagram. Maybe if you work on the buldings only in summertime for a couple of summers and go home for the winter until you have enough wood and have the buildings at a level where you can live there. Do you speak swedish? Do you think it matters if you don't? I'd love to do the same.

You don’t need Swedish. Most swedes know english

I don't speak Swedish yet but do plan to learn as I did move here and people speak Swedish! Yes, you can get around speaking English but there's always some people who don't speak it or feel uncomfortable speaking it, especially in rural areas...

@@wildrosie not to mention a courteous thing to do especially since you are now living there. I moved to Scotland from the US and am trying to learn Gaidhlig (Gaelic) as many people here have this as their first language and much of the road signage is in Gaidhlig. I struggle with it but I think if people know you are trying, they are patient and appreciate your efforts. Best of luck!

Clearly you shouldn't move to Sweden if you do not know how to clear snow yourself. There are snoslunga's, snotraktor or snoquad meaning you can do it yourself.

Life is for learning. Also I have a neighbour who has tractors and clears snow for the people in the area

I brought my cabin in Sweden 17 years ago.It was the first one I looked at and I immediately felt an affinity with it. Buying it is probably one of the smartest things I've done.

You have gone to the woods with more integrity than Henry Thoreau. You are not taking your laundry to your mother, or having someone clean for you. You are living simply. He said, “beware of all enterprises that require new clothes,” so you make your own. Wonderful.

I'm not surprised heading to the North parts of Sweden. Mobody wants to go to the south of anymore these days.. I live in Finland and we have maybe even more open space since we are about 4 million people less than in Sweden. Welcome to see Finland too some day! Our nature is very similar, very beautiful and peaceful too, maybe just a bit more lakes in here.

It's also my dream. my concern is: if i do not live there most of the time, how much tax and maintenance fee do we have to pay?
@splittedspark167510 ай бұрын
@@thankyouthankyou1172yo, idk if you have found anything more yet. From what I understand you pay the property tax(according to land type, be that forest, agriculture, temporary living or permanent living) and that's it. Obv if you have insurance that gets added and maintenence fee is what you spend on renovating and keeping it in shape.

You are so brave and I love your sense of adventure. I don't drive and have wondered how easy it is to get around Sweden. You are an inspiration!

20:13 quickly found out that the tap is there but there is no water, it's just part of the kitchen layout. nice, i'm gonna turn all my rooms into kitchen like room but only one functional kitchen, visitors would probably love it.
