Coming from an adult who was once a child in a crazy family: This kid did it this way because his parents would have probably made an entire scene and blown up the situation for everyone. He obviously cared enough about his animals to give them a good home and get them to a good home when he could no longer be there for them. He was probably heartbroken over giving them away but wanted to make it as painless as it could be without his parents involved.

It's hard when your raised to think animals are disposable property so you wanna fight against that, but to put emerald scales team through this situation is unfair. I had a stepmom who was screaming at me about the pet mouse I got from a friend so I just put it outside lol. The kid in the videos parents defintiely wouldve jumped out of the car proverbially guns blazing and had them talk to the cops instead of them, no chance to hand a business card or any information. And in that situation you never know what cops you're gonna get, they could side with the parents and start looking up reptile trade laws or something to get them a jail time of a couple weeks or months. Just to make a point as shitty people. So yeah the kid was putting them in an unsafe situation and I'm on goherping's side, this is fucked up

As a parent, I do not understand why a parent would give a animal away as a punishment. I can understand rehoming a animal, if the child has not been taking care of it, and it has fallen onto the parent to care for it, to keep it from getting sick. Giving them away as punishment, is cruel and I would not do that to my kid, or the animal! What message does that send to the kid? Because in angry, the animal is disposable? It's life has no value? I don't think so. Not this momma.

I cared well for them, even as a young child...I loved them! Romeo & Julia. They came when I called them by name. I walked around that lake for hours every day, calling for them ... But never found them . Then WINTER CAME, this was in Germany.. there is no way they survived, between the native Predators, the weather & the invasive species littering that pond (bull frogs I think they are called) that were set out there (it was believed that it was by some of the military families, when they were being stationed somewhere else.) It was a common issue there. It was kind of like the final betrayal for me, by my own mother. I appluad you for being a good parent for realizing that making threats towards the animal isn't the best way to go forward with punishments, as that would just form a huge wedge within the relationship between you and your child and even leading to resentment My mom sometimes threatens to give my dog away whenever she was angry or upset with me, my first ever dog which my dad gave me before passing on for my fifteenth birthday, which in turn would only make the situation even worse as I love that dog with everything I have as she's a very sweet and affectionate dog who's been very patient with me and helped comfort me with losing my dad, and my mom knows how much she means to me- hell she's even affectionate with the dog, so for her to just throw threats like that really stings that she views her as disposable instead of a family member- The very same dog my dad allowed me to keep despite finding out he was allergic to her because he loved the both of us. I wouldn't know what I would do if one day she actually follows through with the threat, but I know I would never forgive her if she ever did

Now, I have NO IDEA what your relationship is like with your parent, but if you have the ability to talk to her, I would encourage you to tell her what that pup means to you, and what it does to you when you are threatened with the pups surrender/disappearance, In a calm, loving conversation. I think as parents we sometimes get over whelmed and don't think it through, don't realize the pain we cause in our child, whom we love most in the world. We make mistakes too, but usually, we love you dearly and we'll, raising kids does not come with a instruction manual lol. We do want what is best for you, even when we make mistakes. I just wish that communication about such important topics was more open in most homes. My mother was broken from a bad childhood, mentally sick, and then brainwashed by a cult... I hated her for a while, a long while, but even tho it's been 17years since the day she turned on me, and kicked me out, over a cult, and shunned me, still, she won't speak to me or my children, I now pity her. My initial guess was, that the kid got the animals without consulting his parents, and when he brought up the possibility that he might be allowed to one day own exotic pets in their home, he likely realized what a terrible mistake it was to try hiding the animals from his parents, and wanted to get rid of them ASAP so they wouldn't find out. The thing that makes me believe that your interpretation of the situation is more realistic is the cost involved in setting up nice enclosures. Either you are right, and the parents decided to use getting rid of the kid's pets as punishment, or the kid had some serious allowance (which is not totally impossible, if he cycled with newspapers, mowed lawns, or had the best lemonade stand on the block).

It is very true that parents don't see reptiles as pets. I have a leopard gecko. His name is Bolt. My Dad says that he is ugly and dumb. He told me if he dies for some reason, I can go to a pet store, and purchase another Bolt.

Honestly based on having some crazy parent of my own. It sounds like they may have been threatening to hurt the animals in some way and he clearly cared about them. Getting rid of them to someone he knows is safe and dealing with those consequences is preferable to not doing something and feeling responsible for and innocent animal that you care about being harmed or killed. Idk but how well they took care of them and being willing to get rid of them so quickly tells me they felt it was serious in their eyes at least.
@highjinx65192 жыл бұрын
But how did he know they were safe? Didn’t they find it on Craigslist? He didn’t have a clue how well they would take care of them.

My bet is he got the reptiles from a friend and hid them in his room. When he asked his parents if he could get a pet, they said no. My friends would always say "it's easy to ask for forgiveness than permission/" That's how I got a few pet reptiles. I imagine he was terrified of what would happen if his parents found out he had a strange reptile in his house. #2 He was the middle man, his friend asked him to keep these reptiles until he could find another home, but his friend told him "They're now your problem." #3, they're stolen and the kid could not find a way to sell them before the police found out.
@FurNixen2 жыл бұрын
Wow, I didn't even think about the second option, and it would make a lot of sense. They probably got the animals a couple of days ago, and doesn't want the parent to find out.

I feel like maybe they were threatening him that they’ll get rid of the animals, so he got rid of them so they wouldn’t be able to. Or maybe he had a reason to try and get them away from his home, like he thought someone in the family didn’t treat them well, or they were going to give them away to someone he didn’t like. Or maybe he wanted to rehome them and his parents wouldn’t let him, like “this is your responsibility” kind of thing. So he did it when they wouldn’t be there. I definitely agree that he asked you to come at a time when nobody would be home and then someone came home unexpectedly when he told you not to come anymore.
@wolfyeverywhere2 жыл бұрын
I think the kids family was moving and these reptiles he had were unknown to his parents, so he had to find a Way to rehome them and get rid of anything related without them knowing so they wouldn’t find during their final walkthrough of the house

When I was a kid my first pet was a puppy, my mom got mad bc my brother and I would fight over who’s room the puppy would stay in at night so I came home from school one day and my puppy was gone! My mom literally gave her away! I was heartbroken! Also I had SEVERAL pets after that but once I got a baby rat. My mom was worried that she would somehow climb out of the tank so she stacked books across the top. I got home and found my pet dead, I assume she suffocated since it was an aquarium with a mesh lid so there was no ventilation all covered up like that! To this day my mom isn’t an “animal person” which has always made me angry but also confused how someone can not like animals!

My mom has told me a semi relevant story about her own childhood... her mother, my grandmother who I've never met, gave my mom's dog away in the middle of the night. My mom was 12, and when she asked my grandmother where the dog was, she said "maybe it ran away." Super nice thing to do. My mom spent hours wandering around the neighbourhood calling for her dog until she was finally told the truth. So yeah idk what was up with that house but I'd assume it was a problem with the parents, as a bunch of the other commentators have said. Some people should not have pets, or children.

The reason I ended up with a bearded dragon isn't even because I wanted one- although now he's part of the family. It was because someone was going to release him outside in the winter! He wouldn't have survived that, so he came home with me. Sucks how little normies consider their needs

It’s didn’t go so well after and I feel bad it. When they got home I said her boyfriend came over and took them. He got arrested and I’m not sure what happened after. I was angry and stupid then.

I would guess the kid had been hiding the reptiles and the parents had no idea he had them, but some situation was coming up where they would certainly be found. Maybe they were going to tent the house for pests? Remodel? Move? Or, going a darker route, maybe one of the kid's parents was mentally unstable or had a substance abuse problem. Maybe he knocked over dad's beer and dad held his leopard gecko over the garbage disposal until he cleaned it up. He might have wanted to animals out so they couldn't be a target for the domestic violence.
@blep13172 жыл бұрын
Here's another guess, kid knows how to care for the pets and the parents don't and they won't listen to him so he decides to get rid of them bc he knows y'all will take better care of them. Even if they were in good care from what it seemed maybe something was up behind the scenes.

As my son (13) and I were watching this I formed a different theory than most. And one kinda similar to yours. I've known several of my friends kids who are ... well they are just evil geniuses... so while they can't help but to get into trouble they do try to mitigate the consequences. My theory is that he loved those reptiles and they were the only thing left the parents had to punish him with. He probably had done something bad or was planning to and was waiting for the hammer to drop. He wanted to make sure his reptiles were taken care of even if not by him. If they weren't his as some are suggesting he would have released them or given them away. He wouldn't have cared who they went to. He was smart enough to find someone who he knew would take good care of them, create a fake account so not to get caught. He probably went to military school after this. Lol.
@Blixtwixy2 жыл бұрын
The most likely reason in my head is that maybe he wasn't supposed to have pets, but his parents noticed a smell from his room n demanded he clean his room and were going to check that he cleaned it properly when he got home (meaning he had nowhere to hide the enclosures), so he probably cleaned up the cages before pickup and sent them off so the parents would never know. Maybe his mom even said she'd help clean after she got home. Definitely not unheard of that a teenager would let their room go and their parents step in and demand they do a full room cleanup. Could also be that it's his siblings reptiles, but the sibling doesn't take care of them and he didn't want to maintain somebody else's pets anymore so he got rid of em while everyone else was away.
