I went to a Mosque for my first time in Kota Bharu Malaysia. I was asked to convert to Muslim by a woman who was in a shop just out the front of the Mosque, I later entered the Mosque to observe what is happeneing inside but I fet too uncomfortable because I did not want to disrespect anyone

I think your idea of going to the mosque has made the locals think that you are interested about the religion, mainly because not many non Muslim foreign would do such, especially in Kelantan. Trying to learn about Islam and mosque in Kota Bharu is a bit bold, especially when it is always open and fill with crowds, the people also a bit strict in practicing their duty as Muslim. I'm also a Kelantanese, a Chinese Muslim and I always go to that mosque a few time in a week for learning sessions. Islam is all over the world, we shared the same faith and brotherhood bond, the same goes with the Islamic teaching and practices. If you want to learn more about Islam, our Muslim brothers and sisters back in Australia can guide you. Unless, If you really want to know more about the Kelantan State mosque, you'll have to visit it with someone familiar with it. Cheers, mate.

Thanks for your comment brother, yeah I'm a bold guy haha, truth be told I'm very interested in the religion mostly because most muslims I've encountered I've had a wonderful experience with them, I feel there is a lot of stereo typing with this religion that just isn't true, and apart of my travel channel goal is to break stereo types and show the truth and the people behind the truth. Which this video is doing just that, 99% of the comments are beautiful, insightful and helpful, and I was welcome at the mosque, I only felt out of place due to my own limited knowledge, but I will be visiting mosques in other counties so my knowledge will grow in time

Hi @farandbeyond, I watched your vids in Kelantan, great content! I am a Kelantanese. I did study in VIC for my first degree, so listening back to some good ol' Strayan was a music to my ears, mate! I watched this video with interest and I felt that there's something lost in translation haha. None of them are anybody's fault, just some language barrier issues. There is no problem for you, or anybody for that matter, to wear shoes to go to the mosque. It is not a taboo. When those in the video mentioned that you to "open the shoes", what they really meant was that you need to take your shoes off prior to entering the mosque. "Open the shoes" is a direct translation of the Malay language spoken by Malaysian for "buka kasut" which simply means "take off the shoes". The reason why people were wearing thongs or slippers is because it is simpler in our hot weather, we are not accustomed to wearing shoes if we are coming from our homes to the mosque on Friday haha (Friday is a weekend day in Kelantan, so most of us are from home, not from office). You may enter the mosque, there should not be any problem. You may observe the prayer from behind and afterwards, you may try to approach and speak with the leader of the congregation, known as "Imam". Just have a nice little chat. No worries about that. As for the payment, the woman may meant that for any new convert to Islam, the religious authority offers some financial assistance for them since typically new converts would need to build a new life. That's what I understand from the conversation. Anyway, safe travel to Thailand and on to South Africa. You have earned a new subscriber. Welcome back to Kelantan afterwards!

Hi again Chris...I hope you enjoyed Thailand. I was reading the comments before I watched the video in full. Now I know the lady everyone talked about...the stall owner with a Brazilian husband. Yes she was friendly and asking if you're interested in becoming a Muslim. As many have commented, it's a choice that only you can make... and if your own free will. It was interesting watching you wash your hands, face...I thought you were doing ablution, cleansing rituals before performing prayers. Or maybe you observed the men washing their hands and feet before performing prayers. Some may have cleansed themselves from home, so you would not see them performing ablution again at the mosque. You're very respectful...I'd like to share too that there is no restrictions in visiting mosques or suraus (smaller than mosques). The only thing to remember is to not enter with shoes on, and for ladies to have their hair covered and dressed in long sleeves and floor-length skirts. As for the slippers, sandals, flip flops...it's for convenience. I hope you have learnt a little about the religion. Wishing you safe travels 👋👋

Hello Chris. You can visit a mosque to ask questions and take pictures. You are allowed to wear any footwear (boots, shoes, sandals etc) on the mosque ground, but you need to remove them when you enter the praying area. The praying area is usually the carpeted area and seeing the many footwear placed along the entrances is a good gauge that no footwear is allowed beyond that point. 10:35 That laughing man didnt mean anything and he wasnt laughing at your shoes. He was just expressing his happiness seeing a "white man" at a mosque. I'm sure he'll go back to tell everyone he knows of his surprising encounter. The only problem here if you ask questions about Islam, is the language barrier. Islam means peace and to submit yourself to the Creator. Islam is not a religion founded by Muhammad but it referred, rather, to the original religion of all mankind since Adam, Noah, Moses, Jesus etc.

You were wearing long pants, so in term of properliness, you're proper already. So you could just go inside and sit down. Best to choose last row at the back so you don't interrupt congregation prayer. Other than that, there's nothing much happening in a mosque actually, but again, if you want to experience it, you're welcomed to sit. If you have questions, you can request for a mosque official, he will answer any question that you have. Q&A isn't about converting, but about building a bridge and understanding. What the lady said, would be best worded as "invited you to Islam". After we've invited you, it's up to you. If you have question you ask, we answer. If you need guidance, ask, we'll give. We're not pushy.

As a Malaysian muslim , I beg to differ. Muslims may share dawah inviting non-muslims to embrace the religion and its okay for them to accept or not to accept the call. One may always refuse if they find the message is not right for them. In Islam no compulsion in religion. And yes, she spoke the truth. In Islam we allocate zakat for those in need which newly converts are also entitled. But if you are well off, you may politely say no. Non-muslims are also encouraged to enter any mosque as long you are fully comply with the dress code. You may enter with shoes off. No need to buy new sandals haha. Just sit at the back of the congregation and embrace your surroundings. Most welcome to ask questions and learn about Islam. Welcome to beautiful and friendly Malaysia. ❤

@@farandbeyond I write in Kelantanese dialect, about seeing your videos remind me a story of new revert that come to Mosque at first Ramadhan night, Muslims have long prayer together at mosque called Tarawikh (you can look on KZbin about the video of Tarawikh prayer around the world) he amazed looking at how many muslims in the mosque not same as the church he use to go, it because in the first ramadan it become tradition almost every muslim go pray tarawikh at mosque, in the day muslim fasting the whole month of ramadan. hopefully you can go to mosque at ramadan night and seeing yourself and try fasting in the day time, many Mosque also provide food for people to break their fasting, I see video non Muslim like you join eat together and there is no problem.

Normally before entering any place of worship over here you need to take off your shoes and leave them outside. It happened before that some visitors could not find their pair of shoes outside after finishing the visit. So you find that most worshippers wear very cheap pair of sandals and leave them outside without any worries.

Because its Friday, In Friday Kota Bharu city is like dead city. This is because in Kelantan their weekend is on Friday, so everything is closed. Most of people will stay at home in morning & afternoon to rest or doing house chores. In late evening maybe the will started to going out. In Friday mostly shop/restaurant will open up at 3PM, after the Friday prayer (from 1pm-2.30 pm), that why many place is still closed.

If you ever get the chance to visit Singapore, go to Darul-Arqam (Muslim Converts Association). They can answer all your questions, boots on, and you'll find people from many cultures there to chat too. Great place for learning about Islam in a friendly, no compulsion, sort of way. Also has a great food place next door and a great market near by.

This is some history about Malaysia King and state of Kelantan The King that auntie just talk is the Sultan of state Kelantan, we Malaysia got 9 kings or also known as Malay royals, in this world there is 10 Malays royal that still had sovereign power, 9 in Malaysia and the other one is Brunei Royals. So Malaysia had this unique system which is all the king or sultan from 9 state will take turn to be the head of federation titled Yang Di-pertuan Agong, literally meant He Who is Made Lord or simply paramount ruler. Once five year, the Kings will gather in a conference which the new King will be elected, the process is democratic and actually most of the time it following the same rotated order. Kelantan King is the 15th Agong, beside Kelantan the state Pahang Sultan now is the current Agong he will end his term 30/1/2024 and the new Agong that already been elected will start his duty as the Agong. The new Agong is from state of Johor, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim. Actually Malaysia royals is among the oldest in the world dating back the as early 330 century. The first islamic sultanate in Malaysia founded in year 1136 by Phra Ong Mahawangsa who converted to Islam and named as Sultan Muzaffar Shah I, he was said to be the decendant of Alexander the Great from Merong Mahawangsa, the first King of Langkasuka. The Mahawangsa family still rule the exact same state, with the same name which is Kedah Darul Aman. Kedah also had the oldest civilization in Malaysia which date back to year 788 older than Ancient Rome. If you go visited the side you will find thousands of tuyere that use to make steel. Most of other historical side only found a few of that tuyere, but in Kedah we got thousands of it, every corner of the site. Kelantan is also rich with history, Kelantan is among muslim country that actually a women become it King in the old days. Cik Siti Wan Kembang I is a queen who rule old Kelantan Kingdom. Actually not just one time, many women become the king in state Kelantan and one of them is known as Princess Adruja Wijayamala Singha or simply cik siti wan kembang the seventh was one of the most famous, she is said to be a strong warrior that killed and beheaded the emperor of Siam now Thailand, when the kIng brutally killed her people during a war. And Kelantan is also a state that very famous among islamic scholar since before independent, people come from all over the world to learn islamic scholarship in Kelantan. That is just a little bit about Malaysia history, Malaysia is rich in culture, nature, history, hospitality and food. And as traveler, you should know this the first man to ever circulated entire world in one voyage is indeed a Malay person named Enrique of Malacca or Panglima Awang Hitam

Buka kasut - open shoes Its actually literal translation from malay word which means a request to take off your shoes 😂😂😂. Anyway, the lady is not trying to convert you. It is forbidden in the Islamic law to force somebody coming to the religion. She was only convey the message as told by our god Allah and the teaching by our beloved prophet Muhammad pbuh. If you find the messages connect to your inner heart, make the further research and study. If you choose to reject it, we respect it. You are free to make your decision. The lack of english vocab from some locals might sounds its like forcing you so I hope this clear the misunderstanding. 👍 One more thing, she given you the name 'Muhammad Christ' was meant to 'localize' yourself into the community. Its a sense of welcoming to the neighborhood. Its a practise by some of the old folks at some rural area in Malaysia to the foreigners. It just a gesture of their friendliness. Anyway, have a pleasent time in Malaysia and hopefully you find your own hidden gem at the rural area. You made the right choice not sticking at the metropolitan area only. 👍👍👍

I am from Malaysia. So Funny seeing you talk to the lady and the Man selling at the food stall. Malaysian people are friendly and Love to talk and they would stand there and talk all Day. Very Friendly but No, do not convert to Islam if you like to drink Beer or Eat Pork. It would not End Well if you cheat and get caught.

You got me laughing when you said that building with LHDN written on it was some sort of monument or building of significance. LHDN stands for Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (State Internal Revenue Department) it out equivalent of the American IRS.

The best way to learn about Islam is to get the Holy Quran in Arabic, with English translation & Roman English for pronunciation.
