Sterling's on the road again! Love the strap around the tree device. On your BC adventure I noticed how you created a working platform off one of the panniers...which gave me a great idea. I use a GIVI top case that snaps into a mounting baseplate bolted to my bike. Along with my metal fabricator down the street, we made an aluminum worktop that snaps into the baseplate. The material was cut from an old highway sign that is perfect thickness and the backside of the worktop is the bright red reflective material that will be a great night time warning sign if needed. I slip the worktop between top case and luggage. Thank you Sterling for the idea.

Other ADV riders made a huge deal of the big rally. It was their destination and they made multiple videos. Sterling stopped by for a visit, showed us the event and then went camping. That's more my style. I have nothing bad to say about rallies but there are too many people for me. Solo camping is more my style.

Skull Hollow is one of my favorite places to camp in that part of Oregon. I've been camping there since the mid-90's when it was just a spot where us climbers would go to camp for free. No facilities, no water, nothing. If you keep going NW on NF-1395, there are some really fun roads to ride. Not particularly technical but loads of fun. Also you can head up to Prineville and there is some fun riding in the Ochocos as well. Windy is normal there, particularly in summer. I can only remember a handful of nights I've been there where it wasn't at least a bit windy.

Can tuna and rice might be one you want to try. I use the little plastic bags of soya, sweet and sour you get with takeout Chinese dried onions, mushrooms all packs super small. Switch it up for canned chicken or ham. Wild carrots grow just about everywhere. And when all else fails a can of chili or stew, paper label removed, with a small hole poked in it fits nicely on the motor about 1/2 hr ride and warm to eat.

When you cook a special meal, please include what spices you add to make it complete ("Complete" is one of my favorite do-all spices, BTW - kind of like "Mrs. Dash"). We are blessed with having so many great camping-specific tools to make our journeys more pleasant than just a few years ago. Safe travels and anticipating your next episode.

We REALLY enjoy watching your videos, especially the BDR previews! We live only a few miles from the start of sec. 4 (WABDR), and know it well, but your films give us the chance to see what the others might be like as well. Wonderful work! One thing on hammocks though-I learned that some campgrounds don't want you hanging from their trees (Farragut State Park in Idaho, for example). That's strange given the wide straps we use, but a Yobo Freedom hammock stand is a solution.

I bought a 2.9 liter titanium pot with the intention of doing serious motorcycle camp cooking. It's large, but not much of an extravagance because I fill it with the stove, fuel and my camp kitchen and I'm carrying that volume of stuff anyway, and now it's all in one protected location. My extravagance is the 32 ounce HydroFlask. I like getting a cold beverage at lunch that I can enjoy in camp with dinner.

Have you tried the Hennessy hammock? I love mine. It's the integrated lay-flat version of the fly and separate hammock you used. It also has mosquito netting which I consider to be essential equipment. I can also sit on it and use it as a rocking recliner underneath the rain fly so I don't carry a camp chair. The larger and heavier Haven can also be pitched as a tent when there are no trees. I converted my Hennessy to pitch as a tent, but it's not the best.

@@SterlingNoren - I posted a "Solo Motorcycle Camping In The Daniel Boone National Forest" video to my Ultralight Motorcycle Camping channel. You can scrub through until you see the brown rain fly at the 9 minute point for a quick intro to the Hennessy hammock. I'll make a full video on it later, as well as a short video on motorcycle camp cooking, etc. My goal is short informative videos but I have no aspiration to the gorgeous artful videos that you make. I don't have the artistic skill for that, but you have encouraged me to suck less when making videos.

Its bare minimum 3 times a month (sometimes more) that I'm finding myself dodging more traffic or having to move between traffic at stop lights because of hard breaking drivers. I've got a 58 litter top box on a GSA so its not like I blend in with the vehicle in front of me. Just Friday morning, Mr F-250 decided to cross from the fast lane into my (slow lane) AND into the Right turning lane all while taking me with him due to me being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Its time for me to be a bit more concerned with having a lawyer on retainer I suppose. Safe travels in your journey gentleman and as always... hope ya get laid tonight.

That is is a super cool little stove. I wish that I had that in my backpacking and mountaineering days. It looks like that little stove needs a wind break. My stoves don't get much use anymore. I had one for backpacking and another for winter camping where I would have to melt snow for water. I don't take camping gear with me on my ADV rides unless I have to, I loads up the bike so much it takes a lot of the fun out of it. I took camping gear on my recent trip to Bella Coola because it is pretty remote and I wanted to give myself lots of flexibility. Bella Coola is on the edge of the Great Bear Rain Forest, home of the Spirit Bear. It is accessed from the steepest road in Canada and it is gravel. Look it up.
