Even my public school educated self would look out of place there. There's social tiers of public school and mine was the type that had a rugby club not the type with a rowing club. When I worked in banking (of course I worked in banking, I'm from a public school) there were people who would wear their school ties to work events and I always reckoned they were a bunch of posers and tosspots at best then one of them tried to give me "career advice" to just go buy a school or a regimental tie online and I realised they were a bunch of fakes as well.

I can see u doing a series on canal boats! I live in kidlington (oxford) the biggest village in Europe, lots of old timey pubs and lots of good ale as well as a canal that passes through 2 of them. You should come and give it a try and if you need a guide I'm your man!

I can't believe I didn't see you! I've lived in Henley my whole life (22 years) but I still feel the same way you do about not feeling welcome or 'in with the crowd' when I turn up to the Regatta even though I'm wearing a suit and tie. I went this year just to drink with mates but I looked at the rowing for a bit and still don't care about the sport at all and have no idea why it's enjoyable to watch especially since you can't see the finish line 🤣the only way to enjoy it would probably be in the steward's enclosure but you have to get a special pass and be in with the ultra-posh rowing weirdos

ah you mistakenly went there thinking it was about the racing! I was lucky enough ......not sure......well I was there last year 🤣. I was invited by a company we work with and I think I saw one race start as we made our way to the huge marque that we then spent the rest of the day in enjoying the free food and drink. It wasn't really my thing but we had a good laugh at all the posh people who's thing it most definitely was! To put it in perspective for those that haven't been........they had a huge area in the car park cordoned off for helicopter parking 🤣

Hey Robbie, love your stuff. Maybe I’m biased as a rower and tend to go every year, but it’s a lot more fun on a sunny day! You can chill by the sides with a crate (or two) of beer and watch the racing unfold. The best part about Henley is having a few bevs with friends. The racing is great too. I missed out on qualifying this year but it’s the ambition of every rower to race there.

It would be great if you did other cultures activities too. I think it would help you ground your expectations more and you wont feel so weird when its a majority one race. You could argue its as much culture as what POC do if you get my drift. Just an idea.

Sounds great. Have you got any ideas for what I could go to? I used to go to the Notting Hill Carnival every year when I lived in London. A Caribbean event, but with a diverse multicultural crowd. I can’t think of any event in the UK (outside of religious festivals) that’s this monoethnic.
