@spin.chicken3 жыл бұрын
The reason there's so much supportiveness and sportsmanship in games like this is because there's no direct PvP. There's no direct match where the actions of one player influence another player. This game is just raw driving and racing skills. There's no cheap trick, no "he's playing like a b*tch" type of stuff that can be done. So games like this will have a much higher degree of sportsmanship than a lot of other sports/games/competitions/etc. It's fantastic, and I wish it could extend to a lot of other competitions in life.

With the exception that cheating is fine on the oldest anarchy server in Minecraft. It's sad that Riolu won this event, just days before Wirtual uncovered his cheating history.
@DreadKyller3 жыл бұрын
@@renerpho While this is true, it's worth remembering that riolu is still an extremely good player and his online, streamed runs on which no cheating was found, are still far into the most elite. I don't know if we'll ever know his motives but skill wasn't one of them, he had the skill to get those records legitimately but chose to do them illegitimately. Whether he was annoyed with failures, didn't want to commit the time required, or felt entitled to the records, it doesn't matter much. The point is that Riolu is still an extremely skilled player, and as those were live runs the use of slow motion timespeed manipulation wasn't used in them, regardless of the fact he's been caught having cheated several of his records, he still won that competition fair and square. I just wish he's come clean about his cheated runs, admitting to it may impact his reputation but the speedrun community in general seems quite willing for forgive people for making bad decisions if they own up to it and prove they can change, by continuing to claim innocence in face of overwhelming evidence will make it harder for people to forgive.
@renerpho3 жыл бұрын
@@DreadKyller I agree with you on most of your points! Regarding Riolu's motives, I guess I go with Karl Jobst: Skilled players don't cheat to get a good time, they cheat to get a good time faster. What's sad about the run in the video is not that Riolu was playing unfairly, but that Wirtual almost certainly knew that he had cheated at the time of this run. I don't know, it just leaves a bitter taste. What you say about speaking up is interesting. It would be nice if those who were caught cheating would own up to their mistakes; it would be healthy both for them, and for the community as a whole. Unfortunately we don't see that very often. I am not sure I agree that the speedrun community in general is willing to forgive. What leads you to that assumption? As a side note, have you seen Karl Jobst's video about Dream (maybe not) cheating? It's an interesting lesson in bad communication, among other things. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWS8q55jaLiNnNU

It's not the size of the community, it's the nature of the game. This game is solely based on how good your driving is, and that's the only thing it's based on. Uberbug, nosebug is lucky (well, to get them to go where you want is luck based) but I don't think anyone has done one with any success in a COTD (or pretty much any other tournament exept kacky) You can be unlucky and get a landing bug, but that's pretty rare in the new game.. COTD is in large extremely skill based..
