Inheritance in Turkic dynasties were a bit different from others , each son could be the next shah/ Sultan so each had equal chance . In order to prevent civil war each Sultan was required to murder his brothers and nephews. This was called the fratricide law . In Iran some of the Turkic rulers followed this law but most didn’t ( not sure why , perhaps there were afraid of backlash? As Persians didn’t have this law ) but in Ottoman Empire this was a common practice. Actually this is one the reasons that Ottomans survived that long

Yeah really… they could’ve been a force to be reckoned with had they teamed up rather than rivaled each other. It makes you wonder if one of their other brothers had lived, could he have been more successful at bridging the gap between them? Speculation on my part there. On the other hand, since Selim points out that his other brothers were all “weak and merciful” (his words, not mine), would he have destroyed them one-by-one eventually? Then again, if Mustafa and Mehmet especially survive, that would put Bayezid and Selim further down the line of succession/competition for the throne, so they may not have had a reason for rivalry. We’ll never know though.

No matter I dislike Bayezid I feel very bad for him when he saw his sons die :( Selim I really like you but to let him believe that you would spare his sons if he beg and then refuse is not one of the best moment and even horrible ( even if I know that he killed them to be assure that they will not make theme revenge, apparently the show forget that when a sehzade die as a traitor his sons must be killed no matter theirs ages for assure that they wouldn't take revenge of his father). I have a question: we have some details of sehzade Mustafa historical but I can't find on Bayezid and his sons execution ( as we know that stranglers were deaf and could not physically speak) but is there someone who had some details of his execution ( even if I don't like Bayezid historical as I find him verry stupid it had to be horrible for him to see all his sons die :( ).

On july 1562 agrements were made for bayazid and his sons to be released. Bayazid who had old and torn kaftan and turban on him self wanted to see his kids one more time but they didin't let him. Then he was executed, so he didin't witness his son geting executed like in the show also Selim didin't execute him it was Suleiman
