I'm vegan since 2009 and (obviously) I don't eat honey, but I don't like most of the justification about the reasons not to. In Western Europe, I never witness gasing bees, or horrible semen collection and harming queens. That happens in crazy massive places like in the USA. The reason I don't like this argument is because it seems similar to me, as anti-vegan that talk about how almonds are grown in the USA (monoculture, billions of bees brought there to pollinate etc...). Yes, almonds culture in the USA is absolutely mad, destroying nature and animals and should be banned, that doesn't make almonds a horrible product. In Sicily, they grow beautiful almond trees, other plants grow around and they don't use bees. In the same way, If you have bees and want honey, you have layered hives, and you leave them in the first layer (instead of replacing it with sugar that is obviously bad), and you only collect additional layers. There is no reason to kill any bee or to gas them (and they won't go anywhere, they are too happy in an adapted structure). Bee products (honey, but mainly propolis) have remarkable properties, so even in a perfect vegan world, I wouldn't be against having bees (with high standard rules) for pharmaceutical needs only. The only argument I thought was strong against bees, was from Earthling Ed, stating that bees aren't great pollinators and that they're competing against other insects which are better for the environment.

@@Choucheeeenn My sister worked as an ethical Bee Keeper. The only problem with it was you would often kill bees by accident when taking out the layers. Also the Queen is sometimes killed and replaced by another

I've been vegan for about 2 1/2 years now, and will never look back. I admit I first did it for the health benefits, but the ethical side comes into play not long afterwards, simply because I can take my stance without being a hypocrite. No meat eater can be comfortable with what happens to animals, yet they'll turn a blind eye and continue to support it. It's rather odd.
@erichmyles44812 жыл бұрын
I started for the environment, 4 years in and the idea of what I was doing to animals makes me literally feel sick. There's no wrong reason to be vegan imo
@cindy6522 жыл бұрын
Most people who consume other animals and animal products do care. Unfortunately, there actually are people who don't care what happens to the animals.
@3Diva2 жыл бұрын
@@erichmyles4481 The goal is to get people to stay vegan though too. Sadly there is a lot of people going "vegan" (in actualality just plant-based) for their health only and they never make the ethical connection and then go back to eating meat because they still see animals as a "food". I don't care WHY someone goes "vegan", as long as they also become actually vegan (as per it's definition as a moral and ethical stance) and STAY vegan. To stay vegan for life people usually need to make the ethical connection. Otherwise it's just far too easy for people to go back to their old ways. But once you start seeing animal meat for what it is, the tragic corpse of a sentient individual that was killed needlessly, a being that feels joy and pain that didn't want to die, then eating that corpse is no longer an option. It would be like someone handing you a dead dog or cat (though, tragically, some even eat those animals). For someone who's made the ethical connection, it doesn't register as "food" anymore though, but just the dead body of someone that wanted to live. So while there's "no wrong reason to be vegan", it's definitely important for people to eventually make the ethical connection with the animals, otherwise they're very very likely to stop being vegan sooner or later. Sadly we're seeing a lot of people in the "health" part of veganism who end up ditching it because they are mainly doing it as a part of a "plant-based health movement" and never did make the connection on an ethical and moral level.

For anyone who wants more reason to be against honey: Honey bees are named as such because they're so good at making it - they collect a lot of pollen and hang onto it well. That makes them poor pollinators compared to many other species of bee or even other insects. When honey bee populations are artificially inflated by humans, it has a big impact on wild pollinators and other insects competing for pollen, which affects the surrounding plants and other wildlife as a result.
@rebelvgan45792 жыл бұрын
everything we do affects the delicate balance of nature

@nvmffs2 жыл бұрын
Are you sure there isn't enough pollen to go around?
@TheShockedboy2 жыл бұрын
Being from northern California, there are people that run Mobile hive companies. They travel for crop to crop to pollinate the plants you eat. A side affect of this is they have a constant food source so they produce an excess of honey. Also there a ton of bee keeper groups that will remove unwanted bees from your property, rather then the hive being exterminated. So just buy local honey, and you can avoid any unwanted suffering.
@spliter2272 жыл бұрын
Commercial honey is a big no no for me but there is a company that gently takes small amounts of honey from wild hives in the Himalayas without smoke or disturbing the bees...that being said it's probably not sustainable for the whole world and i've not really had any honey since i went vegan years ago, just didnt miss it.

1) I’m vegan because I don’t want to be mean to any animals: not dogs, pigs, cats, cows, chickens, turkeys, lambs, rabbits, or anyone at all! 2) I’m vegan because I like to help the environment by not depleting the oceans of fish or to take the whales out and force them to do tricks in swimming pools.3) I’m vegan because I don’t want to pay anyone to burn down the rain forests to grow crops for cows who we created in the first place. I’d rather not rape cows into existence to begin with. I’d rather eat the plants directly instead of filtering them through an innocent animal who doesn’t deserve to die. 4) I’m vegan because I don’t want to pay anyone to pin down mother cows & force them to be pregnant and then to kidnap their baby boy cow for the purpose of murdering them, just so people can steal their milk and sell it in stores to use for their taste pleasure. 5) I’m vegan because, if I don’t feel right eating bacon, sausage or ham, because that means paying people in the pork industry to cut the tails, testicles & teeth off baby boy pigs & kill them at just 6 months old. I just don’t want anyone to do that to them. 6) I’m vegan because I don’t want to just say that I think animals have moral value. I want to show it with my actions. 7) I’m vegan because if you were the victim, I’d also protect you. 8) I’m vegan because I believe in telling the truth, in learning and in trying to undo the harm I did in the past.

Don't be so naive. He is putting up an act. He already knew of the abuse and apathy. He won't go vegan.

@@OM617a He didn't push it to the back of his mind, he obviously knows he can't prove the sign wrong and he is aware of apathy being the reason why he still eats meat. He's like me, he won't go vegan. For someone to go vegan they either need to be entirely ignorant of the abuse or need to have cognitive dissonance and pretend there is no abuse. This guy checks neither.

@@OM617a "You make no sense at all, you are saying a person needs to be ignorant of the abuse animals suffer or ignore it to become vegan?" Yes, otherwise, why aren't they vegan? Name the reasons. They either don't know about the abuse or they are are in denial of it. If a person is aware of the abuse and is not in denial of it and they are not vegan, how the hell are you going to make them vegan? They already know about the abuse and are fine with it, how will you turn them vegan? They are not a veganism candidate. Simple. They will never go vegan.

@@OM617a I am making sense, my logic is just beyond your ability to comprehend. A person that is aware of the abuse and doesn't care is disqualified from going vegan. Read it again and again until you understand it.

@@OM617a "To suggest that ignorance of abuse or lack of concern is a requirement to have a vegan mindset is bizarre." How? If you are aware of the abuse and you don't care (since you aren't vegan already), why would you go vegan? Can you use logical reasoning for a second and revisit my statement?

i tried to do my best on my soul health commitment. its not about being perfect or set expectations too high to be disapointed to give up. i have to say my transition started when i was 13 in farm based family and process for different reasons took years. i changed to fish and chicken first... yes... Situation today is different a lot of alternative food choice is available however being too harsh on myself would not make it better. i tried my best to allign my actions ASAP and did steady steps towards same finish line - healthy life and limit partcipation on suffering, deforestations and animals cruelty. if anyone can do it faster, or quit from one day to another even better, deep respect🙏 converting to vegetarian🥈 - vegan🥇 has been deeply rewarding ever since🏆✨

Hi Joey, I am already Vegan (because of you actually. I used to be Vegetarian, until I saw you and Ed Winters in separate appearances on This Morning and listening to you both talk), so I had to stop the video at the footage of the pigs in the farrowing crates, I am already traumatised, I don't need anymore. But thank you for all of your activism work.

This was bloody magic. It's almost like you've asked a vegan person to sit down and ask you questions 😆 The level of openness in that person is so wonderful. And about the "I heard all the arguments under the Sun, like, don't plants feel pain? Isn't a tomato as sentient as a pig? It's vegan propaganda!" 🤭😅 What exactly do vegans have to gain by sharing such information with people? It's almost as if the people who consume animal products, believe that vegans show them that stuff to get a kick of seeing them in a state of disgust, or anger. Shame that a person don't flip those arguments, and instead question what the animal farming industry will lose, if a person was to go vegan 😉
