I've heard you say your old a few times - when you can still work on your knees and get up off the floor your not old yet. When you get old, in another 30 years if your like me your going to wish you had wore knee pads when you had to, and did most of your work on the table. Love your style, your work really grabs me like a perfect photograph can.

Great design. It reminds me of the rising sun, the start of a new day and a new project. As far as the block plane on ply, it’s a tool made to be used. We can always give it a quick sharpen or strop. Keep inspiring all of us

The thing I made last week in my shop for work (the company I work for) was a rolling plywood storage cart. I can now store and organize all the sheets of plywood and the random off cuts in a way that is clean, organized and easily accessible. It’s not pretty, but every time I look at it I smile and am happy that I took the time to do it.

9:15 No, it’s not silly. A little bit naive, perhaps? I would have moved the sun off the canvas, only doing the rays. And maybe two off-canvas suns, subtle Star Wars reference, with another set of rays going from bottom right to top left? Something like that.

Not a bad idea. Ultimately the sun was used to help me stretch the boards and complete piece with only one sheet of ply. Otherwise I would've come up just short of the corner.

“Wharton Esherick is one of the most influential furniture makers of the 20th century.” Hm. Very interesting, thanks for mentioning his name - super sculptural, a feast for the eyes. Influential? Not so much: you could say furniture design went the opposite way in the 20th century, with Bauhaus and later the Scandinavians. But I’ll check out more of his stuff, I really like some of it.
@ENCurtis8 ай бұрын
His influence was less on the industrial furniture movement and more on studio furniture as an artistic practice. Before Esherick (and later Nakashima and Maloof), people didn't see furniture as an expression of art. Esherick and his contemporaries changed how we perceive objects of utility. But that's largely an opinion, I admit.
