My hair is very dry. It is naturally high porosity and ultra-fine due to genetics. I've also become allergic to most raw oils and butters. My trichologists gave me a recommended regimen: 1. shampoo weekly. 2. Deep condition weekly with a plastic cap and a hot towel for 20 minutes. 3. apply leave in lotion-like( more watery) detangler and leave-in cream conditioner and put under a plastic cap and hot towel for 20 minutes daily. This stopped all dryness on my hair and scalp.

I don't know if that would work because your high porosity and all you are doing is lifting up the cutiles because you are "using" heat for the product to Penetrate. Since i'm low porosity, i prefere you look videos specially for high porosity. Also i heard that a lot of high porosity use apple cider vinegar to prevent the hydration to evaporate faster. But yeah check some videos

I'm with you on the humidity = moisture for my hair, and I'm big on glycerine & aloe juice, so have you thought about a steamer for the dryer weather when it's not so humid out. I didn't see some one else commented about the steamer guess we're on the same path. 😊

Hydrating my hair with water daily is key to my rapid hair growth. I dampen my with fortified distilled water and then put on moisturizer. I fortify my water with a little leave-in conditioner. My leave-in conditioner is also liquid.

Hello my sister, yes what you say makes sense. I grew up poor. My mom couldn't deal with my long kinky hair so after shampoo and conditioner the next day she would wet my hair sloppy wet then add hair grease just to get through my hair. She would style my hair while wet. Lol i used to cry when it was hair day. It always took two days. Im back on that regiment because it works. I'm older now, so my hair is thick and healthier with less product. Water water water for those of us like me. Thank you always.

I think a lot of cosmetologists and natural hair content creators are frustrated with the damage that they see done to people's hair...particularly when someone does one-size-fits-all all hair care tips and doesn't tailor it specifically to the individual person. For example, I can't use raw oils and butters..it causes an allergic reaction and inflammation and irritation on my scalp...If I keep doing that my follicles will be damaged, dead and I would be bald. My scalp wasn't always like this but now with age-ing it is so I had to change my whole routine/regimen, products and techniques. I can still use products with oils and butters in them or I can seal with silicone. I've been natural for 15 years and I just want to see people with kinky, coily and curly live their best hair life and not feel like it's impossible and a chore.
@CurlyCrowie

@@marleyhill34 I am so glad you posted this. I feel inclined to go the same route. Butters are way too heavy for my 3a/b. I never thought of silicone.
@marleyhill34
@marleyhill34 2 ай бұрын
@@CurlyCrowie no problem. A few tips on silicone: 1. Do not put silicone on your scalp or roots. 2. remove the silicone build up with a clarifying sulfate shampoo every 4 to 6 weeks. 3. Do not be heavy handed with the silicone. Only a small amount is needed. If you can research the pros and cons of silicones as they exist for every ingredient there is. Curly chemistry on youtube is a scientist who breakdown the ingredients in products.

Yes, you hit the nail on the head! I ljust learned this from an Instagram stylist, 😂, and I figured out recently that the problem with my hair and skin is dehydration, because I started taking fewer showers during the pandemic. The same way it does no good to put lotion on dry skin, it also does no good to pile on products on dehydrated hair. You have o shampoo the hair.

Once I started steaming in my DC, it's changed the game. I am a believer in a clarifying shampoo every wash day. You can't cram all these products on your hair without taking them off. So I do a clarifying shampoo and a then a moisturizing shampoo, and then a rinse out conditioner in the shower. I get out and deep condition with my homemade deep conditioner and steam it in. I only use my dryer when doing a protein treatment (using my deep conditioner and added hydrolyzed keratin and wheat protein drops I bought from Amazon). I do rinse with cold water, because I don't do everything in one day. I physically can't because of my disability so I just add a creamy leave-in and leave my hair towel on until the next morning and then I steam it again while applying my products. I go from wash to wash and only remoisturize my hairline because I wash out the edge control as I wash my face each night. Once I really learned what my hair likes it's been pretty easy to keep it healthy. I haven't needed a trim in about 15 months (and that's my licensed cosmetologist telling me after straightening my hair and doing a good examination throughout my whole head every 3 months) so it's allowed me to retain all my length. I do green tea rinses so my hair barely sheds anymore and that's keeping it thicker and longer as well. But I couldn't do any of that without hydrating my hair well as my foundation.

@@mikochild2 um.... I use the cold water after rinsing deep conditioner but before my leave in spray detangler and leave in cream conditioner. I'm not sure what everyone else is doing but that's what works for me. I think the cold water rinse maybe is a problem for low porosity, coarse hair types? My hair is the opposite of that.

@@CoilyDiaries you're welcome. My dream has been for a long time is to grow super long natural hair. My hair texture is about a 4a or 4b. My hair has been stuck around my shoulders and armpits for I don't know how long. And those lengths are only when I flat iron it. I want my hair to be so long that it will at least come down to lower bra strap length when it's in its natural state. If I got hair that long, I'd probably never use heat on it at all.

Thank you for the video... this makes alot of sense. Alot of times my hair does be dry no matter how much I moisturize. I am now hydrating with aloe leave in and ofcource with some water. I tried glycerin my last wash day to me my hair felt hard afterwards. I didn't use protein so maybe that played a role. Now I am using strengthener from Taliah Waajid to moisturize my hair. This works for me also Camille rose moisture milk. I will try pH also...green Beauty talks alot about ph level. Thats why after wash day my hair looks better..😅

Shikaka Shikakai is a natural astringent that strengthens the hair roots, promotes hair growth, and the plant's saponins gently cleanse dirt and grime from the scalp . There are many herbs that benefit our hair and you don’t have to use these man made shampoos. There are pants that can be ground in to a powder and mixed with alovera gel or flaxseed gel and made into conditioner or simply make a paste of the plant once in powder. Best informational video ever. Even better than the cosmetic chemist channel. So many products and hair stylists out ther are'nt differentiating these words, moisture & hydration, properly. You never know what your getting. Im just realizing the importance of treating hair properly. Growing up by tge oceon in Calif. my hair stayed hydrated & moist. Now that I moved to the desert, my hair has PTSD, its as dry as the desert. Isnt it bad to continuously open and close the cuticle every wash?? Your video was a little confusing at the end. this is correct. the only thing about products is that if it’s Sumer for example they could warm up and the cuticle raise especially if you go outside. PH is good for added help to keep the cuticle shut.🌺

When you take a douche you can put your braided head or whatever hairdress you have under the douche and let the water go trough your hair to hydrate it. I do that when it is raining hard in Suriname. I then take a bad in the rain and my hair too. It feels amazing

@@MsVakong although I was raised in the English speaking Caribbean, I learned French and Spanish at school there. I've to Italy, France and Spain. Douche in French and Dutch means shower in English. These are the romance languages along with Portuguese where the root is Roman Latin. English has borrowed a lot of words the the French. I studied international relations as a degree so i understand the cultural differences.

Her hair seems to be low porosity and is always dry. From what I gather from your video, I need to shampoo (which open the cuticles), deep conditioner under the dryer ( the heat will hydrate the hair), rinse with what kind of water please ? Add leave in conditioner, (back under the dryer) after Spray with apple cider vinegar to close off cuticles and seal with castor oil) is that the order please ?

hi Sis. the video gives you the order. ACV is the final thing you do. most shampoos already have a higher PH to open the cuticle. hydration is water. in order to get it in use a shampoo or heat. they both open the cuticle. please see my moisturising routine for details🌺

Agreed! My hair loves loves loves being Hydrated! For me it’s also a self-esteem boost. One time after taking down braids, I noticed that I felt amazing and so refreshed after giving myself a great wash, a slick back bun with damp roots! Just as We get thirsty, our hair needs water too! We need to shy away from some of these long standing terms like “don’t get your hair wet”. (Of course not if you just had your hair straightened lol) but ideally our hair needs water on a frequent basis. Even if you can spritz it (depending on the style you have) 😊
