Every thing you said 😅 My routine is very simple now: 1. Shampoo/clarify every 2-4 weeks, 2. A good leave in conditioner, 3. Hot oil treatments 2xs a month (olive oil, argan oil, avocado oil) 4. I Keep my hair in twists or stretched underneath my wigs. My hair is thriving. I cannot leave my hair loose.

But what’s the point in growing your hair long if you never wear it out? if you’re always twisting it and putting it up in a so-called safe style. Maybe it’s cultural, but for me I love hair down on the shoulders or below. I don’t like puffy hair, there’s no reason why I should to go through all the trouble of numerous DIY’s to wear. A wig is pointless. at least for me. I know your fund of your hair, but it just would never work for me. I keep thinking how beautiful it would look if you had something to soften it so that you could wear it on your shoulders. Well God bless you I’ll keep looking.

Well said, and I just subscribed. To start with: There's no way I'm washing my difficult to manage, long 4A/4C type hair every week. I wash and deep condition once a month, and moisturize just once a week with leave-in conditioner, Shea butter, and hair milk. I also massage the scalp with my homemade rosemary leaves and black seed oil (also weekly). My hair is doing great - I have had no regrets!

I agree with everything you just said. Just to add 1 more thing that, in my opinion, we need to be more aware of: The very popular tendency of people to come out here and use the words "scientifically proven" before making a very misleading statement. Yes, science has proven many things through research results. The problem arises when we misinterpret scientific results, jump to inaccurate conclusions, preach them as facts, and make them trend.

As a lifelong natural, I wholeheartedly agree w you! Ladies are doing WAY too much and making natural hair SO much harder than it has to be. It's not the products you use, it's the hair you have. The sooner that is understood, the simpler everything will become. I use V05 shampoo and leave in conditioners to style. When I need hold, a lightweight gel or mousse. I neither deep treat nor have a ton of processes. My hair is gonna be my hair regardless. And it's SO healthy. I keep it short bc I've had long curly hair my whole life and in my early 40s, I don't want to be bothered. Simplicity and acceptance is key! When the ladies are 10-15yrs in, they'll get it ❤

@@CoilyDiaries I think reprogramming from relaxed hair takes time. Most of the product junkie-ism and search for the best curl defining, frizz-free, shiny, curl elongating process comes from being used to having sleek relaxed hair. After years of trying many products and realizing what afro hair truly is, the A-ha moment will come. We have to remember most have no experience w their own natural hair. It's a whole new world. The mental process takes time. Sometimes I wanna say, "your hair isn't dry, that's what afro hair looks/feels like..." But I know most won't receive it. Of course there are exceptions, but overall I think that's the problem.

Thank you for a very detailed video. Your hair is sooo beautiful and you look stunning. One size does not fit all. I did the big chop during the pandemic on my 4c hair. I watched a lot of videos and definitely spent a lot of money on expensive products that did not to work. Girl reality slapped me in the face real quickly. I decided to go back to old school products that my mom used on my head growing up. I use only 3 products a leave-in, blue magic Indian hemp with a little black castor oil mixed in. My hair has grown sooo much and it’s very thick like yours. I normally keep my hair braided under my favorite half wig but, I decided for the month of December NO wigs. I’m wearing my hair in a pull back huge puff and girl girl girl it FEELS GREAT true freedom to let my crown shine. Styling is still a challenge some days but this large beautiful kinky puff has a sister feeling wonderful about my natural hair journey. Thanks for sharing. Happy Holidays ❤

With fine baby type hair it's best not to manipulate it a lot. I was always cutting mine but I'm wearing wigs as a 'protective style.' I mainly wear synthetic in all different colours. If I have to wear natural wigs that need as much styling as my own hair , what would be the point. I don't pretend they're my own hair. In the same way I love wearing hats , they're just a style accessory. My hair is growing happily now after many years of dissatisfaction because I'm leaving it alone. ❤

Yes. When I first went natural, I tried many products from watching natural hair videos. Probably spent hundreds of dollars trying different products over the years until I learned what my hair flourished from. I tried using hair gels, which is commonly recommended for 3b/3c hair, and it was awful! Hair butter works better for me, along with washing my hair at least bi weekly. I haven't seen any videos recommending no butters or oil, thank goodness, although I'd definitely would have dismissed that one. My hair would be dry as a broom if I did that. Ultimately I totally agree with your surmise that there's no one remedy that we all fit on. To each his own, I guess

I totally agree with everything you said, i have 2b and 2c hair and the most important thing i learned over the years is to listen to my hair... everyone's hair is different so is their routine.... patience and consistency and moderation is also important when it comes to diy hair remedies...it shows result with time

I’m going to be honest, you scared me for a minute about the DIY comment as they have been working wonders for my hair. Then as you kept going I find myself agreeing with you. It is disingenuous how DIY hair growth oils and such are touted as if your hair won’t grow without them or as if it’s some kind of miracle cure for everyone. They’re not. The reason why my DIYs work for me is because I put in all kinds of time and energy into figuring out what my hair needed and what ingredients would fulfill those needs. You are just about spot on with everything. 👍🏾💜

I have at least 3 different textures/curl patterns: 1)Crown of head/3b 2)Sides and back of head/3b-4a, 3)Around my face/4b-c. I live in a climate with 4 seasons. Dry Winters and Humid Summers! I have found that technique can impact as much if not more than products. Fall/Winter technique: Protective twist outs w/head wraps. Wash day: apx 2 weeks. Spring/Summer: Wash-n-go’s. Water rinse w/conditioner & leave-in: every 2-3 days. Full Wash day with Shampoo, Protein treatment and Deep Conditioning: Weekly. No matter the season, I have figured out how to minimize tangles, protect my ends and keep my strands hydrated and moisturized. It takes a lot of paying attention but it’s worth it!!! I’m 2 yrs natural with amazing hair growth (above ears to below shoulder blades!). Great video!!! ❤️

I am natural…did a big chop this year. Started with coils - which I loved when it was short. As it grew out, I started to feel that the curly natural twa look didn’t fit me and isn’t my everyday preference. I find it hard to maintain unfortunately. I’ve been a straight natural, worn protective styles, etc. It’s so much to avoid - heat, too much product, tension b/c the edges are thinning. Very frustrating.

My hair is like a rice paddy, it needs moisture galore and greenhouse effect every night and that’s my hair. I’ve experimented A LOT with many products techniques and trends over the last 3/4 years to find what works for my hair & my hair without greenhouse effect is just not happy. Works for my hair perfectly. I still like to watch hair videos and I’m happy I found what my hair likes even if it’s not popular, never had infection or problems, change shower caps every night and I can sleep with my diy chebe concoction specific for my hair when it needs it overnight. I’m also very happy you mentioned that just because you’re in a protective style doesn’t mean you’re not enjoying your hair, spot on with that one❤❤

Appreciate you for sharing this in a public setting up knowing the vouchers that can eat you UP🙄! Now, green house effect every night sis? Sometimes bacteria builds up over years and you only start seeing the effects later on. You sound high porosity if your hair is drying out that often. Have you tried glycerin and castor oil? Also you can moisturize with heat for hydrated soft hair much love❤

I’ve been doing greenhouse effect for a little over a year, & am high porosity definitely . If it turns out in a good few years that GHE causes me infection I’ll have to deal with it then😂Glycerine seems to dry my hair & I tried it in many products & with just water. Butters/oils wise for me illipe butter is the real deal, it stops shedding and breakage in its tracks instantly! so I use that with a protein rich leave-in, water for moisture & GHE for happy hair

Wow!! Just wow! So the drying your hair part got me. I’ve seen countless videos that say air drying causes more knots. That your hair is better stretched. I like to stick with the wash and go’s because it works for my schedule, my abilities, and acceptable at the job, but I noticed for the past idk how many months or years every time I go to blow dry the moisture is just sucked out!! I’ve been thinking all this time it was because of the products, but even the same products that used to work no longer work. 🤯 I am officially shook! And I have been drowning in knots!! I have literally been spending hours on hours searching for new routines and products to fix the damage I’m causing! Time I don’t have with three little and VERY needy babies. I have been trying to stretch my Wash days to biweekly to start so that wasn’t a surprise as I heard it from green beauty. She also mentioned the layering of so many products wasn’t necessary too, but again I’ve been struggling with finding a product that “works”. I was literally about to spend close to $100 on products as I am out of options at this point. Before I do that, I will check out your other videos. Thank you so much for posting this. I just found your page randomly so I will subscribe. Also the post “nice” comments made me chuckle. Love that. Thanks again.

@@CoilyDiaries ahh okay. Well I have tried twist like the one green beauty does, but I have some breakage along my hair line so it appears so frizzy in the first two weeks which doesn’t work for my job. Maybe I can try mini twist, but the thought of making all those parts just seem so daunting. My other problem is now that I am working out everyday my scalp starts smelling at day 4 or 5. So I would have to redo all the twist and I just don’t have the time during the week. I am having all types of issues over here. My hair was growing just fine and I made it to bra length then plateaued maybe even went backwards a bit with all these knots.

I think at the end of the day you have to be happy with your hair whether natural or processed. I go back and forth with my hair depending on my mood. I cut it off when I get fed up of it and through everything it grows back. I don't moisturize, I don't wash on any schedule (only when it bothers me), I don't care if it's natural or relaxed. I do what makes me happy with my hair and you what it grows when I decide to let it grow. And honestly I am using the same grease my mother used in my hair as a kid (and that's when i'm not being lazy cause honestly I don't even grease the hair for weeks on end until I need to comb it out). I believe the natural hair community have bamboozled the black community into segregating by hair type and scammed them out of so much money per month. Also I don't do protective styles, why have hair if you're just gonna cover it up is what I believe.

Once I started washing my hair every week, thats when my hair took off! But lets get this straight, i'm not spending all day doing it. But neither do I detangle, so I must be a white girl for definite then!😁 I don't believe its about lies. its about people not wanting to spend the time finding out what works for their hair. I understand everybody has different priorities. Unfortunately it is difficult because the science hasn't been done. Black hair is not like chinese hair, there's alot of variety going on.We also live all over the world in different climates So we have to do the work and find out what our hair likes! Thats what lock down was for!

Thanks very much for bringing up this. There have been alot of lies about growing long hair with multiple ways which actually don't work at all, because if they did there would have been minimum use of wigs , braids ,etc... Another important fact is DNA, africans with long hair have traces of caucasians, whether they know it or not. The best ways which people need would be how to take care of different types of african hair because it's totally DIFFERENT while some people give us an impression that it's the same. Thanks for this ❤

Concerning the DIY you’re right. I decided to grow my hair in 2022 and got a lot of herbs after watching how to make hair growth oil on Yt. I did not see any changes 😭🤣. I wanted to give up but last I did a lot of research, watch different YT videos and that’s when I discovered I’ve been doing it wrong all this while. I ignored my scalp health and general health and was focusing on hair growth and also I was not doing things that would aid length retention. I corrected all my mistakes and I saw changes big one 💃. I cut protein out cuz at one point everyone was protein sensitive 😒 come to realize that my fine tailbone legnth hair needs protein to prevent my cuticle from wearing out at the ends. On the flip side im all for the no oils and butters. I have way better curl definition and my hair is fluffier with more volume. I also enjoy a weekly wash. If im working out a lot, I'll do a mid week cowash as well.

I am glad you spoke to the frequency of wash and style because I have found that leaving my hair alone has allowed it to flourish. I just try to maintain moisture. 2 months braid then my hair in plait style for a month then back to braids. Some times I take the braids down at a month and half and regret it for the next 2 weeks. I blow dry when I wash and that's it. I loved my hair before I relaxed it, when I relaxed it and once again I am natural
