As much as colour is a variable pertaining to water clarity being a deciding factor in direction of colour. I've found it's even much more so how you approach, read, then break down the zone cover/structure through placement, profile of presentation and accurate casting to get the bait into the optimal positions with minimal disturbances.

My favorite jig for the last year has been the black and blue with a electric blue trailer. I use this jig on days I don’t care if I catch a lot of fish but a bigger one.

That black jig and blue trailer combo works well on a plastic worm as well!The first half being black,and the ribbon tail being blue..Also,on the green jig trailer being died blue on the ends,may resemble the blue that is sometimes seen on crawdad pincers..

Good morning Randy, I want to take a moment to thank you for all your insight. I have become such a better angler following your experience. So much so, that I have placed 1st and 3rd in the last two tournaments. Granted, I am not fishing with the pros. In fact the club only has ten boats. Anyway, I am getting more fish in the boat than I ever have. I live in Connecticut and fish from the Canadian border, Maine, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut for the past 26 years. Randy you are the greatest, thank you for all your efforts.

Jig & Pigs are absolutely great for river fishing. I outfish my cousin everytime when we go to the river, because he's stuck in a rut fishing shaky head and finesse worm. My average size bass is at least fifty percent bigger than him.

Do you have a video talking about color combinations beyond 3 feet of visibility?
@bassman6211 Жыл бұрын
@Tagg exactly, I'd add that you don't have to be green pumpkin on green pumpkin or brown on brown etc. You can mix and match those really natural colors pretty freely till you find the combination they're chewing. It really takes experimenting on each body of water, you can't get discouraged and put the jig down. The jig is one of a handful of lures you can throw year round and catch hawgs on.

Great advice but just MY opinion I feel it is intended for a caliber of fisherman looking to complete in multi-state fishing tournaments and do as well as they can and NOT for guys like me who are of a more casual after work and weekend fisherman caliber who rarely travel more than 2hrs from home to fish on a regular weekly/weekend basis. Don't get me wrong when I fish I am absolutely serious and use very high quality equipment and work very hard to catch fish and are constantly looking to get better But again in my opinion a causal fisherman like myself need to be realistic in maintaining a balance between equipment costs and what are the odds spending significantly more money will increase our success as fisherman I make a VERY good living and have been fishing for over 50 years and take one or two a year week to 10 day a long 100% DIY fishing trips and rarely go more than three days without fishing from March till October 1st (deer hunting kicks in) and I agree there is no better bass catching luer than a jig w/soft plastics as 90% of all my best bass I caught as well as most of my bass I catch are on some type of soft plastics Having said that I feel for non competitive fisherman like me spending the amount of money that would be required in having the numbers of different types sizes and colors of jigs you suggest along with the numbers of different sizes types and colors of jig trailers is very difficult to justify. For the last 20+ years I have used only 3 different colors for my soft plastics and a few variations among those colors and this was after a great deal of trial of using different latest greatest colors but I alway went back to one of my three basic colors and day in and out I rarely get skunked and more days than not I catch a few bass or enough to keep me happy. Again as I said sound advice for competitive bass fisherman but IMO financially impractical for we non competitive more causal bass fisherman.

@@dontnonowuno9953 well there have been a lot of studies on the cones inside of a bass’s eyes. Plus reaction studies. Hey Randy, just wanted to give you a heads up that I ordered one of your Old School jigs from Baitwrx and there was a problem with it when I received it. I, too, bought some and was not impressed by the longevity of the jig heads. After two casts nearly half of the head coloring had flaked off, and for double the price of a Dirty Jig jig (my personal favorite), I expected much more. Obviously this isn’t a reflection of Randy, but I think Baitwrx can do better.
