I’m a Sony shooter but have retainers job were I’m forced to use the GH6 (now GH7) and I totally agree on the fact that Panasonic cameras have amazing features that I’d love to see on Sony. You haven’t mentioned shutter angle (still absent on the FX3 and alpha series cameras) and also the sound options! The sound menu button is amazing, bringing all your sound settings on screen just by pressing a button.. And the sound monitoring options have way more options that on the Sony … you can ask to listen only to any of your four channels in both Left and Right headphones… something impossible on Sony. Maybe for a part 2 video :)

I switched from A7siii to S5ii. Love the S5ii so much more... only con is crop in 4k 60fps, no 4k 120fps and autofocus still aint like sony.

Did you notice the neat feature with the histogram? If you are shooting in manual mode and adjust the exposure the histogram will be yellow until you set the correct exposure, then it switches to white.

I wonder how much of this will show up in the S9. I have two bodies in L-Mount, but SL2 is huge and the CL is crop, so I'm looking at the S9 to bridge between them.

My first choice was FujiFilm I LOVE Fuji color. I could live with APC, but the autofocus just wasn't there!. So I switched to Sony. I waited for FX3, and the A74 (iv) I picked up my FX30 because it was a nice match to my Fujinon MK lens that I had converted to E mount (I have the parts to convert them back to X if needed) But at this point I'm now Semi-retired and my Son-in-law is using most of my gear. But I would today maybe use the Fuji FX100 M2 but the GLASS is still a issues. But now that I have 15K in E mount glass I not going anywhere. Glass cost more than the camera system and if you use (as most do) two bodies your going to have to have 15K in glass or more. Changing is just to EXPENSIVE!

Nobody can really touch Sony in terms of AF right now.

The Lumix also has shutter angle :) and probably even more cool features that the Sonys does not have. The magnification is specific to Panasonic, I think only they can magnify in a box and you can see the rest of the frame around it. That overlay can be used for multi exposures (Sony do not have double exposure for years now). If the lens mount was more compatible like the Z mount is with E lenses I was going to sell all my Sony cameras right away.

@@chrisbrockhurst I think the S5II is the camera. It has everything for photographers and video shooters. It has Pixelshift, video extras (all of them), focus stack, exposure stack, the best IBIS, better ergonomics, ... it has it all.

I switched from Sony to Pany for 1 feature basically, focus bracketing and subsequently found out that the Panasonic system is better on a lot of areas. I was shooting with an A7IV

i wish all of the camera companies would stop crippling the software to make you buy other cameras. The key feature i'd love to see here is slow motion with no crop. My phone does slow motion better than the entire lumix line-up. :/ ...wildlife shots just aren't the same without it. Also, better lens choices would be nice. Here's hoping. If they'll fix these 2 issues, I'll pounce. I hope Lumix reads these comments.

Even for photography, Sony cameras desperately need more viewable aspect ratios or guides. I often find myself needing to artificially expand my photo's for prints.

Sony really need to sort out their firmware, can't even shoot 25p in XAVC HS 4k when in PAL mode, love wasting hard drive space when shoot conferences and weddings. Open gate is becoming a necessity for working with some marketing companies (been turned down because I'm on Sony!)

Sony really hasn't done anything interesting since the A7sIII for hybrid shooters and the FX6 for videographers, both almost 4 years old. Still great cameras but in 2024 I would go for Lumix or Nikon for all the great little features and innovations that really add up.

It’s not that they haven’t done anything interesting, they have all the important things covered and done. We’re at the incremental improvements stage in terms of cameras now. A lot of these asks could be considered pretty niche haha

I back up what Chris is saying, everyone is sadly still playing catch UP right now. even 4 years LATER, no brand is giving you 4k120 with the same af performance. Lumix pdaf is disabled once you go over 60fps...so back to crappy af system, nikon z8/9 120p, you get a different color cast than shooting at 4k25 full of noise and canon is overheating. Proxies? well only lately we are seeing them implement these when sony have these for sometime now. AF improvement? see the a9iii or a7rV? even in the lens category, who has all the f1/4 prime? Sony have the best 20mm/35mm/50mm/135mm in the mirrorless world right now.. when before nikon/canon optics were so superior...

You have never even used it I guess 🥹 When it comes to Sony AF, it is impossible to surpass it, but the new AF has been improved with firmware updates like 2 times in the last 6 months, plus a lot of cool updates to make the camera amazing, this that Sony, don’t really do. But the AF is only second to Sony now

Sony = best sensors, but do I ever wish they'd just redesign their cameras from scratch. 58 dials on top. Pleather grips. Horrible LCD screens. Menu fonts that look like something out of 1985. I mean come on. They look like they were made in someone's garage. Take a page out of Leica's or Hasselblad's design and feel, please.

We all know that this LUMIX is amazing camera and in some aspects is simply better than Sony cameras. But… Sony was always known for best autofocus. Panasonic was known for having not the best, even with new Phase Detection, is still not perfect. So why you don’t even touch this most important topic for many users ?
