Yeah, I like this format. The Hippopotamus is an opening I've considered, but I'm still at the stage of not understanding the plans and just making moves I've seen in similar positions. Thank you for posting so many games in one spot. I'm going to be watching this several times. I'm starting to develop a positional appreciation for blitz. Tactical awareness is stretched REALLY thin in blitz, but it goes so fast you can see one side gaining space, playing against weak squares, etc. It's actually very instructive. Please give more openings this treatment. (Might I suggest the Pterodactyl, Bird's Opening, or the Stonewall Attack?)

Great video for someone like me who has abandoned memorisation and trying to join you in the hippo adventure. Interestingly you often go for central pawn breaks which is different to the theory from gingerGM (I got his hippo chessable course) who tends to go for flank pawn pushes or the C or F pawns breaks. It's good to see all sorts of different ideas. Keep it up and please just record every hippo game you play - I'll watch them all! PS I swear you were on speed for this video lol.
@TheChessGiant Жыл бұрын
Hey Joe! Thanks brotha glad you enjoyed the video man. Ya it's interesting how the Hippopotamus Defense allows different strategies/styles once the setup is reached. The GingerGM (like you said) is definetely big into those flank pawn pushes. Hope you enjoy the 7 hippo videos this week. And ya hahaha. Losing the queen and still winning, that's gotta be the highest recommendation the hippo can get. The hippo, so solid you don't need the queen. The hippo... Coming soon on a chess board near you. Rediscover Chess. Forget 960, play the hippo. If Fischer was alive, he'd play nothing else. It's that good. I'm falling in love with the hippo. What I love about it is that I have no idea if the position is good or bad, I just lock the position, c5 or F5 depending, it's like it plays itself, so it is good forb pattern recognition, etc. And seeing opponents messing up, always surprises me but then I wouldn't know what to play either. Thanks for being such a great proponent for this opening. Cheers 🙏

Hey Solomon! Watching your video right now! Have a nice weekend! I am Lorenzo Scavone and i requested the Mikenas Defense with 1. d4 Nc6. I got an E-Book about the opening theory by Sid Pickard. I think it could help you with your video! If you want the book, just reply to this message and i will send you right away through Instagram! Cheers! Love from Brazil.
