That little ball that you're talking about at 22:15 is a pressure accumulator for the Teves ABS brake system. The accumulator has a diaphragm in it and is pressurized by an electric pump. It basically does the same thing as a vacuum brake booster. WHEN that system fails, the repairs can be very expensive.

Oh my God - that's James Earl Jones (recently passed away at the ripe old age of 93) doing the voiceover in that TV commercial! That 2.2 (sold in both naturally aspirated and turbo form) was in nearly every 80's Chrysler product from their subcompact Chargers to their family hauling minivans (exceptions were rear drive products, captive imports, and the Diamondstar trio of coupes). Loud, crude, but performed decently and got decent gas mileage. Mercifully put to pasture before the OBD II emissions standards came out in '96.

1986 Dodge Lancer es, the Bane of my childhood. I pushed that thing more than my mother could drive it. Needless to say, it is the reason my family functions look like a Honda Dealership. I remembered when the dealer had these on the lot back in the late 80s early 90s. One thing I do remember was the high price which ment sales were slow. There was a performance model with a 16 valve head on it, producing 225 horsepower. This engine came with a manual, I believe.

Key fobs are NLA for the w140 S classes, but I believe you can still get a master key from Mercedes. Few years ago it was like 80 bucks. The immobilizer on the pre-97 cars was not in the tumblr but in the trunk, apart of the locking system. So if you get he master key from MB you can take care of the alarm and immobilizer when you lock and in lock the car.
@perryelyod4870Ай бұрын
That explains why when my (horn disconnected) alarm goes off, quite a lot, I have to go out and turn the trunk key to the left. I came across this accidently, when my alarm was active (flashing exterior lights), and for some reason, I went into the trunk. 1996 W210. My central locking doesn't work either, nor the key fob. So, it's manual locking and unlocking, although only the driver's door has an exterior lock. And yes, I've been told I can not get a replacement key fob from Mercedes.

Similar to the Bendix 10 ABS system Chrysler used back in the day. Doesn’t use manifold vacuum. Uses an accumulator and electric vacuum pump. They failed notoriously and so did the Tevis. Could potentially use parts from the dynasty to convert it to regular vacuum booster if it ever failed lol
@Drev222Ай бұрын
I worked at a seasonal fast food restaurant in the early 90's, and a guy would come in regularly with a TC that looked exactly like this one. The owners of the restaurant were into cars, so they would chat with him each time he was in. He made it sound like it was a rocket, and usually would gun it when he pulled out. I always thought it was a nice looking car, but I was also into the same era LeBaron's.
@kklc4Ай бұрын
The TC has a TEVIS brake system. The accumulator ball is pressurized and gives you your power brake assist, same style used on the Thunderbird Turbo coupe, Lincoln mk vii, some 80's buick's also.
@topher8634Ай бұрын
Very problematic system. My 89 Pontiac 6000 had the TEVES MKII system. If you notice the pump running too often or for more than a few seconds for normal braking, you'll want to replace that accumulator. If you don't, the pump will fail and power assist and all rear braking will cease to exist. I will say, when it is working, the car will stop on a dime and give you 9 cents back.

@AutoAuctionRebuilds : G'morning Randy ☕☕ 🤓 . The Maserati 2.2 with the 12 lb Turbo is a great little engine. With that being said the map sensors they used are faulty and when they die they cause the turbos to glow red hot and they catch the fuel return systems on fire because it runs right next to the turbo and that's why 95% of these ended up in scrap yards after being burned up as well as the daytonas and lasers with the same issue. Upgrade the map sensor and while you're at it put an intercooler on it and have a 🍺 🤣 ..
@MikeekiM-vh5seАй бұрын

Here is the story- De Tomaso (yes, the Pantera guy) penned the TC in 1983-'84. Iacocca liked it, they went ahead with the project. Chrysler shared the spec's & drawings internally, to which the LeBaron was styled from. It took 4 years for the Italians & Auburn Hills to get the production going, so it was "Meh" by the time the TC came out because LeBarons were everywhere. Underneath, the chassis is K-based, but the pan & such is Daytona. The only panels that interchange between the TC & Le Baron are the doors. Fun fact, the rear discs are from the '87 Shelby Daytona and the VIN denotes a "Z" for country of origin code for Italy. Bought a low-mileage, triple-black one several years ago. Cheap. The kids have all driven it, the car has been easy to own, it's a back-up car now. We call it the "Chryslerati"- it's an inexpensive, unusual, fun car to putt around. There is a trunk button, too Randy. Look in the glove box The only ones that may be worth anything? The 16V, Maserati-designed (Lotus-built) head version with the Getrag 5-speed. Head gasket in the 2.2/2.5? Cometic MLS gasket, get the head re-done, use ARP head bolts or studs. The 3-speed auto is fine, the A-604 was the horrendous one that blew itself up by engaging low-reverse simultaneously or eating itself. With the Teves ABS? Flush it every 2 years, a rebuild of the master cylinder is $1500

I ain’t no foreign car guy no more but sometimes you see something that just trips your trigger . That guards red over black leather just made me crazy . $191k sticker in glove box and I got it for $25k plus a $1500 ride . I never saw a TC with that motor , they had a Maserati cylinder head on the Chrysler block . They were undependable , maybe someone stuffed the 2.2turbo in it ? They were good lookin buggies . My Benz gots the bi-turbo V12 and it overwhelms the traction control in a fairly dangerous way . These TII engines can be VERY easily modified to crank up the boost, in the old days we literally used to use a brass air valve from the aquarium section of the pet store to bleed a little vacuum off the boost reference line to the ECU. As long as you ran high octane fuel the engine would just take it, the bottom ends are really really stout, especially for the time they were made. The Head gasket issue was way overblown. Yes, like just about anything, if you overheat it, it will blow the head gasket. Cylinder 4 didn't have the best coolant flow path and could sometimes airlock when it got really hot. Mechanics also would "gasket slap" replacements and not have the head machined properly after and they would very slightly warp, and of course it's going to pop again. The A413 auto trans as well is pretty damn stout. They really don't have any of the issues Chrysler Automatics were known for, that was the later a604 4-speeds.

They did NOT blow head gaskets back in the day... The ones that did had 150,000 miles plus and coolant was NEVER changed! Neglected cars. I worked at a Chrysler dealer in the 1990's circa 1990-1998,I would have seen them.I started my career at 18 working in the garage. Their transmissions were reliable too.. Chrysler had a 350 and a 400 hp 2.2 Turbo but back in the mid 1980's they didn nor anyone no aftermarket Gertag etc could make a fwd transmission that could handle the 400 hp! Chrysler could only have a 224 hp 2.2 Turbo 3 in 1990-1993.. I knew 4 people with new 1984-1990 2.2 and 2.5 Turbo engines and not one needed a head gasket win the 12 years these cars were in their ownership..All had 150,000 to 200,000 miles.
