That final clip explained. Smaller = faster out of pipe, You move the same speed but less of you needs to come out of the pipe, not the same story for vertical pipes. Tldr, faster out of up/down pipes if smaller.

That first one had me laugh because I got a level Like that today. Me and a toad were standing at the bottom waiting for the switch to be hit, and the Luigi and Mario went up to press it. I think the Luigi knew it was a fake because he showed no hesitation. Invisible blocks stopped me and the toad from finishing and the Mario and Luigi’s path opened so they could win.
