8:00 My best guess is that this is taking advantage of a mechanic called coyote time, which allows the player to land even if they're technically lower than the platform. Lots of modern platformers use it to make gameplay feel less janky and it is generally a QoL feature. This setup abuses that mechanic by allowing the player to fall just enough to grab the coin and still land on the edge, ironically creating jank with an anti-jank mechanic.

The shell level shows that the shell goes left when a p switch, pow or spring is below it. You can just set a shell on a spring on top of a hyperspeed thwomp will wait to launch the shell until a pow, p switch, or spring goes below it

area 51 stresses me tf out i feel like even if someone did explain it to me i wouldn't get it. i'm also just baffled at what the process would've been to clear that level, since when you have to clear a level with two checkpoints, you have to clear it first from beginning to end, then from the first checkpoint to the end, then from the second checkpoint to the end. however it was set up then would have to be created in a way to accomodate that which makes it all the more impressive.
