I absolute love evolve and still download and play it by myself sometimes, but it deserved to die because of what the developers did to it in the first few months

There was a store but I never used it because cosmetics don't matter to me and monsters and survivors were released as optional dlc. I see no problem with paying a small amount of money for new character content. It was not as expensive as you say at all. I lost interest after everything was streamlined in stage 2 but I remember every character being free in that mode as well. :/

@@JadsterNZ1 the game was 60$, and they released more passes that I think cost 40$ and contained like 5 characters. Which still didn’t even come with the variants of the other characters or any of the skins. If you didn’t spend all of that money you had two characters for each class and 3 monsters. That is a ridiculously low amount of content for a full price game, to then charge almost the price of the game again for half of said content. You had to buy the game almost 3 times to have as much content as a lot of free games have in a lot of cases. Not to mention all of this DLC was released almost immediately, meaning they basically said all of this was a part of the game, but were just choosing to charge you for it.

@@anthonyohler2029 The DLC was not immediate the game was active for over a year and had DLC every few months. Which I believe there was three which were $20 or less. Buying the whole game over again is fine for 3 monsters and their variants as well as 6 more survivors and their variants too. These prices are not in usd either so the game would actually cost 40 or less if you had it on a sale which was very often and the dlc too. It's not a bad deal dude and if you don't want to buy it then don't, offline mode you could use every character without paying to try it out. You're needlessly hating on an old game when in current times monetization is far worse for less.

That first week when this game released was something so special, I’ll never forget it. Playing as a monster felt badass. Playing as a hunter was terrifying, but once a fight started and the trapper got to work, you were in a trance. I thought it was so cool how the role reversal would take place every match - first the monster is scared shitless because they’re so vulnerable at stage 1, but once they reach stage 3, then the hunters would be the ones crapping their pants. But it never felt impossible to win as the hunters, you just needed a great team. It got so hectic sometimes. Everyone was still getting used to the 4v1 asymmetrical genre back then. This was way before Dead by Daylight became as big as it is. I think if Evolve released sometime now (and had a better development cycle) it would thrive and be one of the top played 4v1s, it’s just such a cool and unique game. There is truly nothing else like it. Man I wish so badly for a comeback of this game. Maybe a re-release or something to get everyone to give it another shot, with some awesome marketing to back it up.

Bruh, i bought my xbox one overseas (live in brazil, bought in usa) last day before leaving and was hyped that it came with a copy of evolve since i always wanted to play. Dumb me forgot to inspect the case and when i finally reached my home I realized that there was no disc inside and no key to play either. Never managed to play evolve (apart from a few matches at my friend house, the ones that made me like the game) and i am bummed about it ever since...

I can say with 100% certainty, that if they made this free to play sooner. It would still be alive today. The game took so many steps towards major improvement towards the end. Even had an amazing Halloween event with a special mission and boss fight against an AI monster on a linear map. The ranked system felt rewarding, and there was eventually enough balance to where both sides got to have fun every now and then. This game is among my top 10 favorite gaming experiences of all time. I would still play it to this day if it was still being supported and maintained by people who cared about it's success.

I’ll never forget one of my first times playing this game as Goliath…the whole match I was never found once, and I kept hiding and picking the players off one by one, it was so intense I was shaking. Simpler times, but man Evolve was amazing! Great video!

What killed the game was a number of things: charging £60 for what was barely worth £30, almost zero content updates after release, the insane imbalance, the lack of any attempt to rebalance, hunters having only one life and just having to sit and watch if they died, and lastly because it was only fun if you were the monster. Finding games after it launched was hell, it took forever, and then as soon as you found a game, people would leave because they weren't the monster.

@@Yamthief this is entirely wrong, it was the aggressive microtransactions that killed the game. They had day 1 dlc and shit locked behind paywall after paywall and charged unreal prices for dlc. Getting all the characters and monsters up to the grandma cost upwards of 200-300 dollars and this was all relatively shortly after the game released meaning they had all this content more or less done prior to the game even launching and just put additional pricetags on it. The game honestly was doomed to be imbalanced tho. Casual play was monster generally dominated, pro play was and would have always been hunter dominated for obvious reasons. It's rep was permanently damaged due to the game costing 200ish dollars just to get content that should have been in the game day 1.

Hindsight's 20/20 but TR should have balanced the release version of the game so that monsters were relatively weak. They could have buffed them later, but I still believe to this day that pre-nerf Wraith was what killed the game. Just total OP bullshit. Almost never got domed if the Wraith player didn't want to, and if you somehow DID dome them, they could just focus the trapper, mash buttons and get away again. Or Skywraith. Or move from hiding spot to hiding spot. OG Wraith made the game totally unfun for 80% of the players in a lobby, and I'm convinced the players that might have stuck around left because they didn't want to deal with that bulshit.

@@Yamthief There were very frequent balance updates, and said balance was actually pretty good. The main problem was the balance being so vastly different depending on what level of skill you were. If all players were new to the game, Monster tended to win. If all players were experienced, Hunters tended to win. So it was a difficult balancing act, because if you just looked at the averages... Well, as time went on most people were experienced. So the game was Hunter favored.

It wasn't Turtle Rock's fault: iirc they were locked in with one update per month because of how long it took to greenlight patches through the Sony/Microsoft console QA departments. 1 patch per month isn't TERRIBLE, but given that Wraith was bullshit for, iirc, 3 patches? I mean, how many new players will hang around for 3 months for a new game to MAYBE not be nigh unwinnable? Don't mean to disagree fully, just clarifying that the 1 month waiting periods were BRUTAL for a new release that didn't exactly sell like hotcakes on release. Evolve needed to hang on to its first adopters, and, sadly, it just didn't. 😞

Been making a game the last year and a half. Seeing this many people wanting the old Evolve back is making me rethink my path. I played Evolve all the way until the servers got turned off while in the middle of a match (that took 10 minutes to get into lol). It's Admirable that you love the game so much, and you still have fun against Bots. i'm in a SORTA KINDA same situation with both Friday the 13th: The Game, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. there is still somewhat of a chance for them to save TCSM, but if they'd add Bot matches to the game, id honestly have a blast just killing the Bots, well.. if they made it so you could play as one killer vs 2 or 3 victims, i mean. i figure if TCSM shuts down, they'll sell it to someome else, and the new Developer might actually do a better job with it... but it sucks cause the game itself is so much fun.. i used to DREAM about games where you could be the bad guy, ever since i was literally a kid in the 90s. now we're just NOW starting to get those sorts of games. i remember saving up money from collecting cans, mopping floors and other things to buy the nightmare on elm street NES game, cause the Ad and Poster said you could PLAY *AS* Freddy Krueger, and "Teach the Elm Street Brats a Lesson" but they pussed out and changed the game before it was released. i was so heartbroken i almost gave up gaming over that. if not for Castlevania and the Legend of Zelda, i would have in fact.
