I almost bought this game, then the GameStop dude stopped me and told me it was a dead game, and not to waste my money. Nice dude. Edit: A lot of people are saying that this didn’t happen. It did happen, but it’s disappointing to hear that people don’t believe there’s kind people out there who care more about others even more than their job. I suppose, more than that, there are a lot of liars on the internet that make up stories. Unfortunately, that almost prevents me from sharing mine.

Personally I disagree, microtransactions are still a thing but companies are a little more conscious about it, specially after what happened to evolve and SW battlefront, sure you buy cosmetic things but many of this are f2p games like fortnite and apex legends so the price is not an addition to a fully priced 60$ game, also many of this games allow you to grind for the premium resources, so despite it's still a thing, my opinion is that it hasn't gotten necesarily worse

CakeIS based Well Battleborn already fucking died. Pat form Best Friends also commented that servers for FFXIV thinned out due to Overwatch's release. There's not much incentive for games like Lawbreakers to have stable fanbases if they have to compete with Overwatch. Now what I did say wrong is that games like CS:GO, Battlefield and COD that have loyal fanbases that are established will maintain their current level of players, but any new IPs will have a steep hill to have. Blizzard killed the MMORPG, Hearthstone is the biggest card game on the market and they sold 7 million copies super quickly. Plus other multiplayer games have to compete wth stuff like LOL and Dota for their player's free time.

Battleborn failed because it was very similar to Overwatch visually and gameplay-wise, it had terrible marketing, it came out around the same time as Overwatch and Overwatch was just a better game. Overwatch wont kill new games in the slightest, Battleborn was just the perfect storm of disaster.

The only thing I hate about Steam reviews are the people with hundreds of hours played, complaining about a lack of content and overpriced DLC, which they clearly bought. I did 100% on Final Fantasy X back in the day, and that was 120 hours, with insanely challenging end-game side-content. Yet 3:11 here's a guy with 600+ hours on this POS saying it's fun but there's nothing to do. Problem is that doubled and tripled up on many things. Like hunter 1, 2, 3 and 4 might each have a "blue gun skin". But then a package would offer all 4 of those blue skins in a combined package. Or there were packages that had *multiple* of those packages, "Get all the colors at once for even more discount!". So on one hand ya, there was a lot of things- On the other, not as much as people thought initially because of misleading statements.

I feel like what we really need is like every critic should have a very specific page that portrays his or hers experience as a gamer. What games they play, at what difficulty, for how long, what are their stats at specific fields, like if you see that this person plays his second total FPS or only plays multiplayer or liked THAT campaign that you hated, you will know whether their opinion matters at all. TO YOU. I had a favourite team of critics because close to like 90% of their arguments, their positions, their grades, felt extremely close to mine. I've even met them offline and yes, they were just like me, same experience, similar taste in games. These are people I can trust not because of "brand" but because we share tastes. I can't trust some random person, even if they review a game for a big mag. I know nothing about them! I remember reading an article on some game, and I replayed it multiple times, from Easy to Veteran difficulties. And this game, I really don't remember what it was, had like this sort of security wheels on Very Easy mode. It was like a Story mode cheat, you know, built in to protect these unexperienced players. It felt really seamless, too, if I was a new player, I would love it. And I'm reading this article - and this loud, condescending reviewer is bashing the game for this mechanism, never acknowledging the difficulties. And I was like "Wait, lol, he thinks it's a core mechanic. He played the game on lowest difficulty and bashes something about the game's strength!"

They had 3 options of where to go with Evolve. 1: Release the game free to play, then have later content like new monsters, hunters and cosmetics all monetised at about the price they were and make money there. 2: Release the game at a moderate price, like £25/$30, then release new monsters, hunters and cosmetics for a low price, just to keep a decent flow of money. 3: Release the game at full AAA price and make all later released content free. That way, people will be more willing to pay a higher price with the knowledge it'll be getting bigger over time. Instead they went with full AAA pricing, as well as f2p MMO levels of content monetisation. It was just far too much money for too little content. If they'd just gone for option B and released it at the sort of price you pay for big indie titles, then had new monsters and stuff cost like $4 bucks, the playerbase would have been so much bigger and people would have been more willing to forgive it being somewhat repetitive.

@@KrypandeNej1 well, if the game was cheaper the playerbase would probably have been bigger. "It gets repetitive" is a lot less condemning to a £15 game than it is a £50 game. Or, if they left it at full AAA price but with free content updates, the playerbase would have probably remained longer, because new stuff was coming out for free to keep the game fresh. They picked the options that led to the smallest possible number of players for the shortest time.

They knew what they were doing too, all the booths at e3 allowed you to play 1 match. Of course it got all the buzz and attention, if anyone played more than one match, they would of realized they would be playing the same game every time. The truth is... it was rigged from the start.

Even with those two better options the game itself is still pretty shallow. It's not even as fun as it promised to be compared to similar games with similar mechanic like Friday the 13th or Dead by Daylight.
