Without having seen the source material, I’d comfortably guess that the “rounds per kill” statistics are based on total ammunition spent / total soldiers killed, which doesn’t account for things like suppressing fire. On that note, if the charges were coordinated with suppressing fire then it would be a LOT harder to hit them, that suppression blur SUCKS.

From an old WW2 Veteran. If you see a group of soldiers but don't know where they're from, fire a stray bullet in their direction and see how they react. If they respond with precise rifle fire they're British or Canadian. If they respond with a frenzy of machine gun fire they're German. If they try running away they're Italian. If they throw their guns on the ground and surrender they're French. If nothing happens at first but five minutes later the area you shot the bullet from is bombarded with airstrikes, artillery and mortars followed by inaccurate rifle and machine gun fire, they're American.

I like the realistic shots to kill. People don't realize the huge difference in the 8mm and 30-06 compared to a 5.56 or a 7.62. I think the biggest issue is the lack micro terrain on some of the maps that force you to move without adequate cover and concealment. The ammo count is a bit disingenuous... mainly because suppression by fire was a huge thing and green troops tend to either not shoot much or burn up their ammo on shadows. I hate to see this game turn into something where you need to land multiple torso shots for a kill. Sway is a way over used feature in games, and should be limited not increased. It doesnt improve the game or realism just makes it another mechanic you have to negotiate. I think it shows a team that reads alot about weapons but never asked anyone what it was like for a soldier to shoot them... spoiler... you dont sway that much and your bullet doesnt travel 150 meters before dropping like a stone.

Fear, adrenaline and just being fucking tired from running with a heavy bag on your back make it a lot harder to keep your hands steady. I doubt most of the soldiers sent into battle in WW2 would be able to keep their hands steady in such conditions.
@JamesGrim08 Жыл бұрын
@@alexwright6816 I agree but that's case by case with the soldier. I remember my great grandfather hand tilling a 100ft plot in his back field every year well into his late 90s they all were pretty fucking tough... Anyway that's not how it's normally applied in games. It's all or nothing with most that I've played, and it's always exaggerated in my opinion. I'd much prefer the game to create an atmosphere where I'm fearful and adrenaline spiked because of the conditions not a mandatory inhibitor like sway. Like many others have said in the comments the best way to go is suppression. Make the player feel like they need to be as small as possible.

1:52 Na, the extreme sway and deviation is what i hate most with squad’s gunplay. It’s all just a case of positioning, understanding what range your weapon is best suited to and holding your breath between shots to make follow up shots more accurate Edit: also that article takes into account suppressive machine gun fire so it’s going to be high and it’s specifically kills, not casualties, so wounded has been removed from that 1:45,000 number. It’s likely significantly lower when taking suppressive machine gun fire out of the equation and equating it to casualties rather than kills

1:53 In the situation you showcase the problem isn't sway and deviation, it enlarged ahistorical iron sight and magical/cyborg zoom from eyes that character instantly gets for free. The fix is in making the character slowly get into said zoom like in Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. You don't move, you're not bleeding or supressed? Here, 15 seconds and you get that level of zoom you show in the video. It'll allow both prepared defense to be effective, nerf ADS sprinters and make supression from MGs useful instead of being weird(no idea how Hell Let Loose handles supression, just saying that usually it's either broken or useless and annoying). Allowing guys with assault rifles, SMGs or even automatic rifles to push you if they have MG dropping accurate gunfire on your position as your aiming line would be the same and they have rate of fire advantage. Sway and deviation are needed in hipfiring so that the guy couldn't get off accurate shots by just aiming with the glued dot in the middle of the monitor😅 Character would hold the gun a little bit different each time so shot would go different each time unless that person basically touches your barrel.

Those 45,000 rounds includes those fired by MG’s, also including those mounted in aircraft, small calibre AA guns. I’m quite sure that estimation includes at-sea training of enlisted. Because it’s not taking into account what rounds were intended to kill or not. Just how many got used through the war, vs deaths. So it’s more like, “Enough rounds were fired in WW2 for each dead soldier to have been buried with 45,000 each according to some estimates”.

Yeah but 50k shots of ammunition includd MGs (which weren't supposed to hit but to surpress), angsty fire (like shooting at shadows and strange noises when spooked), general surpressing fire and unaimed shots, not to mention the shots at more than 500 meters. The shooting in this game is rather accurate otherwise. Yes, at those distances everyone is a marksman irl
@SangerZonvolt Жыл бұрын
I also highly doubt that figure in the first place. I mean the average soldier today carries around 300 shots on a mission because any more than that is just too heavy. Most probably carry less. Back then I would expect soldiers to have far less ammunition on them since personal carriers werent that developed and ammunition wasnt unlimited, especially during the later stages of the war. It also seems highly improbably that they even could shoot that much. I mean lets assume a small skirmish with 100 soldiers on each side. Both sides lose 10 men. If we assume 45000 shots per killed soldier then that would mean each soldier fired 4500 shots. Even if we assume most soldiers died through something else (artillery, cold, etc.) and only one soldier on each side was killed with small arms then each soldier would still have to fire 450 shots for the 45000 shots figure to be true. Even with supresive MG fire that number is way too high.
@obiwanfisher537 Жыл бұрын
@@SangerZonvolt I tried to make sense of it. The stats are just BS. War is terribly scary BECAUSE EVERYONE IS A MARKSMN IN SHORT DISTANCE, and a reasonable fighting distance is still up to like 600m, and lucky shots can still happen from further away. And when I say reasonable distance, I mean a distance where you can be sure that you still can hit someone with a regular rifle. Especially back in the day, when rifles had oompf because they packed a lot of blackpowder per cartridge. More power = further shots.. Definitely can be beyond that, probably up to a km (not overly accurate any more at that distance, but definitely means that shooting in that direction you are sure you may hit someone) I am not an expert, and I have no actual statistics, but I am very sure that nanos statistics are very, very far away from the definitely much smaller real numbers.
@SangerZonvolt Жыл бұрын
@@obiwanfisher537 Yeah. Maybe they included shots fired during training, which would rise the number a bit. Though I can say that you wouldnt hit anything at a km range without a scope and practice. Even modern snipers only have a 30 percent hot rate at that distance for their first shot.

1:52 little fun fact - guns in real ww2 were just as accurate, but the thing is that many soldiers were shooting and missing deliberately to not kill other people, while we in game do everything we can to kill as much as possible. Some soldiers after war even admitted that they did not fire their weapons at all. Look it up, its true.
@stonewall-mz7yl Жыл бұрын
Easy fix to the accuracy. 1) If you have been stationary for a certain amount of time your aim should be really good. 2) Increase sway after movement. 3) incoming fire minor sway. 4) Outgoing fire after a few rounds increases sway. Sway doesn’t have to be significant. Just enough to require focus on taking good shots.

More games need to implement things like that

I'd like to fact check that part about 45,000 rounds for one enemy: Disregarding the fact that there was a larger use of automatic weapons, most people shot in the general direction of the enemy rather than shooting to kill. In a video game, you die with zero consequences and are a lot more composed because of that. I do think scope sway might help the game, but I'm talking about real life.

I do believe the high amount of ammo used per 'kill' is because of suppression fire. In WW2, it was also reported that many of the conscripts and volunteers deliberately missed, trying to 'frighten' the enemy I guess? Killing other people does NOT come naturally to people. Vietnam was bad for those reason, but also because of the jungle. It made it really hard to know if your enemy was still alive, or even where he was.

1:53 I'm only talking about the note about WWII here. If it's an average of every shot made, we are talking about a real war here, not a video game. In real life there are literally far more strategies about shooting and not touching any enemy than there are about shooting to kill.
