Unfortunately, these opinions have never gone away. It's just that, for some time, those who held them felt obliged by civil society to keep their views private. @meghnac78 Жыл бұрын

@David_Baxendale Жыл бұрын
100% spot on. Social media has allowed people to voice these views in private groups and give them a faceless account which protects them from criticism and challenge. There is no civil society on social media as there are few if any consequences for voicing such views.
@alexzzzzzzzzzz247 Жыл бұрын
@@David_Baxendale The scary thing is that this didn't happen on social media. He was brazen enough to call a talk radio station and have people hear his voice.
@David_Baxendale Жыл бұрын
@@alexzzzzzzzzzz247 Yeah, that is scary but I think it kind of starts on social media (the process that leads to a person calling up a radio show). Social media basically runs off discourse and argument. It's become the normal to have people like this guy around, they post their views and they see people agreeing with them: It's tolerated as it creates drama which leads to traffic and advertising revenue. People like this then find other people to chat to in groups and rather than sit at home with their views and thinking they are the only one, they suddenly see loads of people. Over time this gets in to the main media and their social media pages also carry this kind of thing. Eventually they're calling up radio shows and they genuinely believe most people agree with them. ItÄs scary to say but I think we all have to realise that there are a not so small group of people who do not walk around doing certain things for the reason that society doesn't tolerate it. Take that away or normalise a given act of behaviour and they'd start doing it.

So married couples who use IVF are ... ? Non-existent? Invalid? Should have their marriage licence revoked? Is everyone to be checked for fertility before the wedding day? "Marriage is only for baby production" is a nonsensical line of reasoning unless you plan to revoke all marriage licences for any woman past menopause with no minors living in their house. Marriage is supposed to be about spending your life with someone, not simply to produce someone else.

One day 2 full on punks walked in the shop holding hands, they're called Phil and Jack. When they left i asked my mum why the boys were holding hands. My mum said this "its love. It doesn't matter if it's 2 boys or 2 girls, love is love". Clearly the conversation is more nuanced, but as a 6 year that's all i needed. Kids are a lot smarter than we think, and we forget that we were also kids and smarter than people gave us credit for. P.s on a side note Phil is a dentist and Jack has a little yarn shop now; from punks to tweeds!! 🤣. And yes they're both still together and happily married.
