Very true, it becomes almost a different game for the viewer. But maybe that applies to all classic games where the balance is horrible and everyone is already familiar with the top tiers and busted plays. Like all classic SFs, Marvels, KOFs, and CvS2, etc... they all are turn much better to watch if we exclude top tiers and some specific cursed plays like the juggle infinite of SFA3, the dash infinite of KOF98, etc.

At this point of fgc history, with retro still going pretty strong, it would be nice if top players promoted more "no top tier" matches exactly to put their skill and knowledge to the test and on display. And that would even advertise these games more, because they are all known for bad balance and top tier whoring. And this match in the video is precisely a good example: the Zangief focused low tier team being polished and optimized to high level competition, is highlighting MvC2 competition in a way that regular (top tier) matches are hardly doing lately.

Bro I only started playing fighting games seriously over the past 6 months or so so I'm not a real contender at any and I've still got a lot to learn, but I'm getting pretty decent and I play a lot, pretty much every day (mostly 3rd Strike, GGAC and some Alpha 2/3), but I still can only just barely understand what is going on during any high level match of MVC2. Game is probably the most chaotic and speedy competitive fighter I've ever seen. Blows me away how you can play and watch these matches and understand exactly what is going on during every frame like you do.

Also remember the game came on the year 2000 and Justin plays it seriously since release and he is a very talented player too. A lot has been studied and understood about the game by the high level players over the 2000s.
