Thank you for posting this video so that we could all share in this special moment not only for Iam but all of the graduates of Kahuku High Class of 2023. I lived in Hawaii for over 14 years and can say after visiting 48 States and over 60 countries there is no other place like it on Earth. Once you are accepted by the locals you are ohana (family). I rented a house in Kailua with a huge mango tree in the front yard. One day I noticed a truck stopped by my house with two young men standing by the fence. I walked out to say hello and after exchanging pleasantries they asked if they could have some of my mangos to which I replied "Help yourself whenever you want, you don't have to ask, and that goes for anyone in the neighborhood." Several days later there was a box on my front porch with some tropical fruits that I did not even know existed. As long as I lived there the neighbors shared what they had with me and me with them. They are beautiful people. What America is seeing in Iam is just a local kid with a wonderful voice. Wonderful voices are common in the Islands with Iam's being a bit more special. Aloha to all my Hawaiian friends and congratulations to all of the graduating seniors!!

There’s no other place like it. I’ve been here on the mainland since 2009 and still don’t feel like I fit in here. I miss everything about Hawaii. The people, the land, the food 😆. As a white Pacific Islander (New Zealand) I too am being priced out of my own country by the rich old money elite and immigration of people too weak to fix their own countries so they run away to mine. However, I will never leave. This is my land and I would rather die than not be able to call it home. I feel for the Hawaiians being "priced out" but you lost the war as soon as you stopped fighting and left your home. This sort of think needs to change!

This Mormon (hold your judgement please), a Samoan came to my house on the Dine reservation. Gave us lessons but we mostly talked. He could be my son. I loved him from the beginning. Nicest, respectful, hardworking and loving human. He finished his missionary in May. Now, my phone is quiet because he don’t call anymore but I know the reason. Our family sure does him. God bless . My family and I didn’t accepted Mormonism. We did accept these Elders as family.

@@Justhereforthevidz for american idol returning home, kahuku hawaii was chosen. It was explained for the first time in kahuku high school history, iam received an honorary diploma as his course credits/studies were there as he completed school levels there prior to the last 3 years which were spent in washington state. Something his family were able to work out with school officials as a surprise for iam on his return for concert & parade. An example, my daughter was sick her senior year, she'd completed grades k to 11 with high honors. She had a choice between online courses or pushing through the pain & illness. Had she chosen online courses, i asked the school principal if she could attend & receive diploma alongside her friends. Their reply was a certificate. My daughter chose to push through, still graduated with honors, & persevered in order to graduate among her friends & peers. Thats why 'Save Your Tears' holds special meaning to me. As a parent the hardest thing one can face is the helplessness of wanting to help & nurture, but unable to do so. I saved my tears for the day she graduated. She's still dealing with the remnants/aftermath migraines from the time she wakes until she falls asleep with nothing that works, depleted energy, severe motion sickness, struggles to retain info/memory etc. She was once a very happy go lucky vibrant girl, help anyone & everyone, did volunteer work, loves music & marching band. She's only a fraction now of the young girl i knew, this is our new normal. She has some days when headaches are bearable & i see the sparkle in her eye & smile. She's my inspiration. Now she has a pt job & attends college part time. Back to iam & his diploma, it is entirely up to the school on request by student. I'm for one thankful kahuku high did allow it. He's been through alot at a young age, & he also has the will, discipline & hard work to have earned it.

Wow!!!! That Haka was so bada$$!!!! Of course Iam singing was amazingly awesome. The icing on the cake was all of the singing their Alma Mater.
