The strange thing about Robert Todd Lincoln was that he was either present or near all three of the assassinations of presidents during his life. He was present when his father died, he was on the subway platform when Garfield was shot, and he was in a nearby tent when McKinley was shot. He acknowledged this pattern and generally declined invitations to meet presidents afterwards, seeing it as bad luck. He also was mildly disappointed he was mostly only hired to jobs due to his father’s legacy and lived quite a long time, being the last survivor of the Garfield and Arthur administrations, as well as the last witness of Lee’s surrender when he died in 1926. He lived a fairly eventful life even if he isn’t remembered much today.

FDR also screened the film Wilson (1944) at the second Quebec conference in 1944. I think also Woodrow Wilson's foreign and domestic policies had an influence on FDR, such as with FDR's new deal policies, the successor to Wilson's new freedom policies, and advocating for the United nations, the successor to Wilson's league of nations. I don't really idolize any president, but outside the obvious deeply meaningful and impactful actions many presidents have made, Teddy Roosevelt's focus on conservation, establishing several massive national parks, protected forests, and monuments is something I greaty admire. So many people overlook how impactful his passion for conservation ended up being for generations to come!

I’m fairly certain Nixon’s favorite President was Lincoln. Nixon read about Lincoln often, spoke fondly about Lincoln often, and when he was young his grandmother gave him a portrait of Lincoln that Nixon cherished all his life, and wrote the Longfellow quote that guided him through life on the back of that portrait.
